How to unlock the Taking One For The Team achievement in EVERSPACE - Definitive Guide
I see that two people have gotten it, so it seems possible to get it. But for me it never did pop. Gotten all the rest of them grinding some runs after completing the story.
The actual solution for this is first complete a run to sector 7 / The Lab.
You the get some background story about what's going on and a mission to collect 8 DNA strings.
DNA strings you get from killing clone of yourself. You can find 0 or several strings each runs. And they show on the sector map as DNA Helixes.
You must complete the run to the Lab for the collected DNA to be added to you final count.
When you have the 8th string and arrive at the Lab you will encounter the Warship that keeps chasing you when you stay too long in any give area.
Killing this Warship is what should grant the achievement.
You are supposed to go collect some energy cores from the automated turrets that's on your side (yellow targets) - you can collect more than one at once. And bring them to the missile silo to launch missiles at the warship.
You must time the launches though. Every now and then the Warship will fire a death ray at you, at which time you need to be hiding behind something - mountains and such. After he fires the ray his shields will be down for some time. This is when you need to launch the missiles.
I did this on Easy, and had to launch 4 missiles to bring him down - not sure if its different on Normal or Hard.
After a cut scene you should get the achievement. I didn't. I asked one who has gotten it, and the only difference from me was that he was on Normal.
NB: This fight is also bugged for some. The ship don't start firing its death ray, thus never loosing its shield either.
This should be solvable by "Save and quit" and restarting the game (perhaps Xbox too?).
This is a bossfight which follows the delivery of all 8 DNA fragments to the lab. See below for an outline of the battle.
Use the initial stage of this fight to retrieve energy cores from each of the allied turrets around the arena-style location. Hover very close to the rear of each to retrieve the cores, alternating between turrets as they reboot. Ignore the more central missile silo as it can’t be activated yet. At least 8 cores can be held at a time. You will use at least 4 and may mess up with a few. The turrets will assist you to destroy the initial waves of Gorc’s ships so take cover behind or close to them and pick off approaching ships, relocating to the next turret under the cover of their green laserfire.
With enough cores, hover over the missile silo to launch a missile at the Admiral's ship. The first will always be negated by a shield but this opens the next round of the fight. Gorc will use a high energy beam in an attempt to destroy you but take cover behind a large mountain and he will miss. His shield will be down for a brief moment so race to the missile silo and use a core to launch another missile before the shield is recharged. You must be quick to allow the missile travel time to the ship before the shield comes up again.
Repeat this hide, launch and hide tactic, finding a new hiding place when the ship changes position to destroy you. Eventually the ship will be destroyed and Gorc will be defeated for the trophy.
