How to unlock the Taking One For The Team achievement in EVERSPACE - Definitive Guide

This is glitched.
I see that two people have gotten it, so it seems possible to get it. But for me it never did pop. Gotten all the rest of them grinding some runs after completing the story.

The actual solution for this is first complete a run to sector 7 / The Lab.
You the get some background story about what's going on and a mission to collect 8 DNA strings.
DNA strings you get from killing clone of yourself. You can find 0 or several strings each runs. And they show on the sector map as DNA Helixes.
You must complete the run to the Lab for the collected DNA to be added to you final count.

When you have the 8th string and arrive at the Lab you will encounter the Warship that keeps chasing you when you stay too long in any give area.

Killing this Warship is what should grant the achievement.
You are supposed to go collect some energy cores from the automated turrets that's on your side (yellow targets) - you can collect more than one at once. And bring them to the missile silo to launch missiles at the warship.

You must time the launches though. Every now and then the Warship will fire a death ray at you, at which time you need to be hiding behind something - mountains and such. After he fires the ray his shields will be down for some time. This is when you need to launch the missiles.

I did this on Easy, and had to launch 4 missiles to bring him down - not sure if its different on Normal or Hard.

After a cut scene you should get the achievement. I didn't. I asked one who has gotten it, and the only difference from me was that he was on Normal.

NB: This fight is also bugged for some. The ship don't start firing its death ray, thus never loosing its shield either.
This should be solvable by "Save and quit" and restarting the game (perhaps Xbox too?).

I reset my game and redid the story. Did the final misson with Gorc on hard and the achievement popped. Though, this time I played it on PC (Xbox Play anywhere) not sure of that has anything to do with it.

Glad to see you got the achievement. Normal was also 4 missiles so I assume it's the same. I played on PC when I got the achievement too so maybe an xbox issue?

Just got the achievement on Xbox, on easy difficulty. Still needed 4 hits with a missile. Popped just after the ship exploded. It was my first attempt at Gorc and I was carrying a single DNA fragment to wrap up the set.

I got to Gorc on the xbox but I had the same glitch where he wouldn't fire the death ray, save and quit didn't fix this. I switch it over to PC, the encounter worked this time but I didn't get the achievement after I defeated him.

I guess Ill restart and play on PC only.

I got this on Xbox, it was my third attempt he was already half dead, i killed half of him on normal, then finished him off on easy, I was also doing the "enhanced victory" achievement at the same time for what that's worth.

I sucked at finding good hiding spots during the beam attack, so this got a lot easier for me when i collected all the energy cores BEFORE firing any missiles. Gorc won't fire his beam until you launch the first missile, so you can use that to your advantage. Once you have all the cores you need, you only have to go back and forth between launching missiles and cover. Cuts the number of times you have to hide in half.

This is a bossfight which follows the delivery of all 8 DNA fragments to the lab. See below for an outline of the battle.

Use the initial stage of this fight to retrieve energy cores from each of the allied turrets around the arena-style location. Hover very close to the rear of each to retrieve the cores, alternating between turrets as they reboot. Ignore the more central missile silo as it can’t be activated yet. At least 8 cores can be held at a time. You will use at least 4 and may mess up with a few. The turrets will assist you to destroy the initial waves of Gorc’s ships so take cover behind or close to them and pick off approaching ships, relocating to the next turret under the cover of their green laserfire.

With enough cores, hover over the missile silo to launch a missile at the Admiral's ship. The first will always be negated by a shield but this opens the next round of the fight. Gorc will use a high energy beam in an attempt to destroy you but take cover behind a large mountain and he will miss. His shield will be down for a brief moment so race to the missile silo and use a core to launch another missile before the shield is recharged. You must be quick to allow the missile travel time to the ship before the shield comes up again.

Repeat this hide, launch and hide tactic, finding a new hiding place when the ship changes position to destroy you. Eventually the ship will be destroyed and Gorc will be defeated for the trophy.

The admiral will appear after collecting all the DNA on the laboratory level. It can only be defeated using the missile silo located at the bottom of the crater. To charge the mine, you need to collect energy cores from the cannons at this level. The missiles must be launched when the shields of the Gorka ship are removed. Can be done in several attempts, and the damage done is saved.

You can hide from the laser not only behind the mountains, but also behind the turrets in which we take the energy core.

At the very beginning, collect 4 cannonballs from all cannons, do not immediately carry them into the mine. Maybe there are 5 of them, of course, I didn’t notice, then everything is simple. The first shot will be a blank, since according to the plot the shield will turn on, and then we simply hide behind the mountain and wait for the beam, as soon as the shield begins to reload, shoot a bullet to the racket shaft and back behind the mountain. All that remains is to kill the small enemies that arrive, and if there are only 4 guns, then 1 time you will need to take one cannonball for the last shot.

The admiral's ship will appear on the level with the laboratory after collecting all the DNA fragments. It can only be destroyed by missiles launched from a special mine in the middle of the map. To launch a missile, you need to remove the core from the turret and bring it to the mine. The cannonballs in the turrets stop for some time; the rocket must be launched while the enemy's shield is recharging. Good news: the damage done to the ship will carry over to the next attempt.
