How to unlock the Weird Science achievement in EVERSPACE - Definitive Guide
Throng is a scientist who will ask you to scan a variety of creatures. It will take several runs to obtain this achievement since the spawns and maps are random. After you scan a creature you will have to find Throng again to deliver the scans. He will then request the next scan. The scans that he requests will have to be done in order however, if you are lucky enough you can get a the requested scan in the same map as he is in, meaning that you can complete it immediately.
A general note. When you get close to a creature, HIVE will mark them with a white symbol. A better sensor range will make it easier for HIVE to detect them.
The list of requests:
1. Green Goo (3x). These can be found on the giant asteroids with the holes in them (they usually contain minable crystal). If you have the Goo Gun you can also get that achievement.
2. Ice Crawlers (3x). These are basically ice asteroids which glow, they are quite common.
3. Asteroid Crawler (4x). These can be tricky. You have to find a minable ore asteroid and slowly start to mine it. If an Asteroid Crawler is inside it, it will fly away. You will have to follow it and complete the scan.
4. Lightning Orchid (3x). These things look like a tentacle plant hybrid and can be found on rocky asteroids floating inside a lightning storm.
5. Ancient Splitter (3x). These are the orange bubble things which split into 3 smaller ones if destroyed. The can be found in sector 4 or later or in Ancient Depots. The Ancient Structures Glyph is quite useful to find the Depots. A note about these guys is that you will have to scan the original Splitter, the smaller ones wont count. Also, they deal a lot of damage so be careful not to die to them (Damage limiters are your friend).
6. Scrap Anemone (5x). These tentacle creatures can be found in ship wreckage. They are quite common.
7. Plasma Jellyfish (3x). These guys live in Plasma Fields and are really fragile. They tend to swim(?) out of the plasma and will die soon after. The same goes for when your ship collects the plasma, they will die soon after. Your best bet would be to fly around the field and see if you can scan them without entering the field.
8. Grey Goo (2x) These are basically the same as the Ancient Splitters but consist of Nano bots. They can be found in sector 4 or later or during mission 3 from Elek (if you haven't completed that one yet). Be warned that you will have to get close to them and take considerable damage (Damage limiters are your friend).
After you're done scanning the Grey Goo, find Throng again to get the achievement.

After you're done scanning the Grey Goo, find Throng again to get the achievement.
Throng will task you with locating, scanning and returning information on creatures found throughout the systems you visit. Return to Throng after completing each task and you will be rewarded with credits and another errand to perform.
