How to unlock the Then You Died achievement in Evil West - Definitive Guide

Not so much a guide but advice.
Play through on story mode and get the collectables and perks, level up everything you can.
Start New game+ and once you get to the fight you'll have already gained the talent to beat the fight.
You will need to learn his kill shots and make sure you utilise your specials, but after a few deaths and swear words you'll know exactly what you need to do.
Lucky this fight is check pointed at 3 stages, good luck with giving him a beating.
Once you win and the achievement pops, you'll sit back and congratulate yourself.
But there's still a tough last level ahead and the same thing applies, you've got this.

William Rentier is the boss fight at the end Chapter 14 – A Son’s Duty. You can replay this chapter after you start a new game plus through the lore section in the pause menu. This is a bit easier than the other boss fights in the game because there are checkpoints after you damage every third of his health.

William Rentier is the boss Monster in Chapter 14, "A Son's Duty." This Boss fight is divided into three stages, with save checkpoints after each stage.

Stage 1: Head to Head with the man himself. He will start shooting with his gun, so keep running and when he charges for a ranged attack, shoot his weak spot to drop health pickup and get an opening to attack. His second form of attack is dropping a blackout and rushing toward you with a powerful melee attack. This attack cannot be blocked since it counts as a special attack. Wait 2-3 seconds, then dodge to avoid getting caught in his attack. When you stun him and decide to make a melee attack, he will jump above and hit the floor, damaging the area surrounding him, marked by red. Get outside the circle to avoid getting hit.

Since this fight has a saved checkpoint, Use your Supercharged mode by pressing r3.png+l3.png, this will give you an advantage and help you finish the first stage faster. After defeating 30% of his health, Stage 2 will begin.

Stage 2: William will develop tentacles and unleash waves of leeches on the ground. One wave will be small and next to each other so you can dodge, and the other is a larger wave with space in between, so position yourself to avoid getting hit. He will attack three waves in a row, then charge to attack a fourth larger wave. Shoot his weak point to stop the attack and get a health pickup instead. He will continue with the attacks from the first wave but focus more on respawning leeches toward you. One Main difference is that when he rushes towards you at this stage, he will wait and taunt you so you can attack him after avoiding getting hit.

Again as this fight has a saved checkpoint, You can use your Supercharged mode if you haven't already or use the Circular rod to stun and attack him. After defeating 40% of his health, Stage 3 will begin.

Stage 3: He will fly in the air and release the leeches like in stage 2. Once he charges for an attack, shoot him to drop a health pickup and rush to attack him or keep shooting him while he is down. Like Stage 1, he will drop a blackout, but instead of rushing to attack you, he will stomp you and dodge the floor marking in red to avoid getting hit. Another Unique attack in Stage 3 is that he creates duplicates in the air, releasing leeches while charging. Shoot the correct one to kill the other duplicates or avoid getting hit till you find him.

Another tip for all stages is to use your explosive sticks by pressing dpad_down.png and then pressing r2.png. They do a great deal of damage when they hit the enemies.

The main mechanic required to defeat this boss is sidestep (single press ).
When the boss launches leeches at you, keep an eye on them; if shortly before colliding with you they separate, then it will be enough to do a sidestep to move away from one of the leeches, but not crash into the other.
If the leeches do not separate, roll to the side (double press ).
