How to unlock the Pole position achievement in F1 2010 - Definitive Guide
It goes without saying that it is better to do this on easy mode. Qualifying is broken down in three parts. The first session eliminates 7 cars, so does the second session. The final session has 10 cars battling it out for pole position.
In order to win pole position, your lap time has to be in the top 17 at the end of Qualifying Session 1, a second lap time has to be in the top 10 at the end of Qualifying Session 2 and have the best lap time in Qualifying Session 3.
Edit: You have 3 parts of qualifying if you choose "long weekend". If you choose short weekend, you only have one qualifying round. (Thank you to Musquito for pointing that out).

Get pole position. Put the difficulty down to easy if you are having any trouble. Set the fastest time in qualifying to start in 1st place for the race.
Can be done in Career or Grand Prix mode. Post the quickest time in qualifying to achieve pole position.
