How to unlock the Against all odds achievement in F1 2010 - Definitive Guide
First off, from the back of the grid it is possible to win on the shortest (20%) race length. If you set the difficulty to easy (I still run with a manual transmission) and enter your next career race, I'd recommend having a practice until you're about 3s quicker per lap than the 2nd place competitor. Once you're on the pace, retire from practice and skip straight to the race.
You'll be in 24th place. Don't go taking yourself out at the first corner then using a rewind, I reckon drive super assertively for the first two laps, and if you have to use a rewind before the end of lap two - start again. You might need those four rewinds later.
Really, you want to make it to first by your pit stop to be secure in this achievement. Normally this pit stop is on about lap 4 of a 10 lap race. If you're any lower than 4th by the pit stop I'd start again.
Furthermore, DON'T damage the car at all by your first pit stop. If you don't damage the car the pit stop will be <5 seconds, if you damage the car it may be 15 seconds. What a pain in the bottom. This happened to me many times and I ended up in 24th after the pit stop. Once you've made your mandatory pit stop (assuming there is a mandatory pit stop) then a little bit of damage here and there may not hurt you.
As long as you're within 6s of the leading car after your pit stop, you've got a good chance. Assuming you pit on lap 4/10, that means you've only got to catch up 1s/lap. Remember that 3s a lap I talked about earlier? Yip, you'll catch them. Just relax don't lose your cool, remember you have those rewinds, you'll get it.
Against all odds (Win a race starting from last position)
Rain Meister (Win a heavy rain race)
It’s a Set-up (Win a race using one of your own set ups)
Tifosi (Win a race at monza in a Ferrari)
Go to the Grand Prix mode.
Choose Alonso or Massa
Participation level: Short race weekend
Race distance: 20% (or more) But not less, otherwise you won’t get the rain meister achievement
Difficulty level: Easy
Weather settings: Heavy Rain
Choosa Monza as your race
Use the practice session to learn how to drive in wet weather. The fastest AI will drive around 1:45. With a bit of practice it shouldn’t be a problem to drive under 1:40
Make sure you don’t steer when you hit a cerbstone. You will spin around most likely. And hit the brakes early but not for too long or you will end up in the gravel.
How to drive a lap at Monza in Heavy Rain:
Brake early enough for the first chicane. And let it roll trough it.
Before the 2nd chicane: Hit the brakes just before the big vodafone board. And when you’re in the chicane make sure you don’t steer too much but just let it roll through the chicane.
The next two cornes shouldn’t be a big problem. Just brake early enough and don’t hit the cerbs.
For the next chicane. Brake just before the raceline says you have to. The last 2 corners of that chicane you can go full throttle.
The parabolica corner (the 180 degrees corner just before the end of your lap)
Make sure you brake early enough and you can almost full throttle through this corner.
If you can drive 2 rounds in a row under 1:40 you can stop the session. You’re good enough.
When you are going to the qualifying session: Just don’t set a time and you will start in last position.
The race:
Before you go to your starting position you see the screen that is on your car. Press the A button and go to car setup. Just change one thing in the set up. It doesn’t matter which one. You won’t notice any difference. Then go to your engineer and tell him to “go to track”.
If you are Lucky enough you will be in the top 10 after the First chicane. When you get the inside of the First chicane you will overtake at least 10 cars. If you hit someone real hard you will get a time penalty of 10 seconds. If you get that, just restart your race till you are in a good position after chicane 1. Just before chicane 2 you can overtake 2 or 3 cars.
The straight before the Parabolica corner (the last, 180 degrees, corner) you can get 4 or 5 cars. After that you have 10 laps to get the rest of the guys. If you drive around 1:40 it shouldn’t be a big problem.
At the end you have 4 achievements. Good luck!!
Select your favorite car and driver from the list.
Then under RACE SETTINGS select Short Race Weekend. It can be done on 20% race distance but I chose 30% to make up for any unforeseen disasters. (I passed the final car on lap 10). Difficulty level should be Custom with things as easy or difficult as you like. We are going for a cheevo so I turned off tire wear, fuel, braking assist, damage etc.. AI on stupid. Clear weather.
Next should be the ADD 2010 SEASON screen. Choose your favorite track. Germany and Brazil are fairly short.
Then go to the session. Don't forget to load your favorite setup for that track. While sitting in the pits BEFORE your practice session, "advance time" all the way till time expires. At this point you should be in 24th place on the grid. You are now set to qualify, BUT DON"T. Look to your right to EVENT INFO and select SKIP TO R. You're now set to have at the field and pop your cheevo. Don't be in a hurry or start panicking. You will have plenty of laps to get this done. After a few laps you should be in your groove and, after the field, have some fun lapping the back markers.
You can also do a couple warm up laps with your car and track in TIME TRIAL mode before going through the above process.
"Short Race Weekend" in Grand Prix mode. 3 laps will make this a comfortable proposition, however, if you choose a longer track you may be able to do it in 1 lap. AI difficulty on easy, Red Bull, McLaren or Ferrari as your team choice. Immediately skip to the race (option to the right of the engineer). This will mean you begin the race in last place.
With the difficulty set to easy, you'll be able to overtake the whole field with ease.
Go to Grand Prix and select one of the best cars: McLaren, Red Bull & Ferrari. Pick short race weekend, put it on easy and pick a track you like. On easy it shouldn't be too difficult to get to the front in one lap but you can make the race longer if you want to give yourself more time. Then just skip qualifying so you start in last and go on to win the race.
