How to unlock the Blue Flag achievement in F1 2011 - Definitive Guide

To save yourself some time you can combine this achievement with the following 2 achievements, so you get all 3 from 1 race

F1 2011Slap on the WristThe Slap on the Wrist achievement in F1 2011 worth 23 pointsReceive a Drive-through Penalty then go on to win the Race

F1 2011Down to the WireThe Down to the Wire achievement in F1 2011 worth 59 pointsTake the lead on the final lap of a 20%+ distance Race and win

From the main menu choose:
Grand Prix - Red Bull - Sebastian Vettel (or another Team & driver if you prefer)

From the Race Settings menu choose:
Participation Level: Race Only
Race Distance: 20%
Difficulty - you need to go into this menu by selecting A

From the Difficulty Settings Menu choose:
Driving Assists:
I kept it as Full Traction Control, Full Racing Line, Auto gearbox & Pit Assist on, just to keep it simple

Simulation Options:
Rule & Flags: Realistic
Tyre, Fuel & Damage: these can all be OFF; there is no need to have damage or the safety car on.

AI Difficulty: Amateur

B button out and set the Weather Setting to Clear and then hit continue.

Select Montreal as the track and start the Race

You will be starting in 4th but that’s actually perfect, because as soon as the race starts you want to cut the grass on the left hand side and make it into 1st place.

Don't be too greedy when you cut the grass or it will DQ you. As it's right at the start of the race you can restart if you need to.

This will trigger a Drive Thru penalty for illegal overtaking, so get round the lap and pit straight away, depending on your lap time you should exit the pits anywhere from 2nd onwards.

Now get into 1st and set some good times, don’t cut the track to avoid getting more penalties and keep pumping in the laps.

After a number of laps it will tell you to pit, but ignore this and just keep racing, after another couple of laps (lap 9 for me) you should find that as you pass the start/finish line you will pass cars in the pits, and then during the next lap pass the remaining cars to trigger the Blue Flag achievement.

Once you have that, it will pop straight away, pit and change tyres, when you come out it’s time to slow right down and let the driver in 2nd place overtake you.

Follow them round the track, you can slipstream them to get some time towards the following

F1 2011SlingshotThe Slingshot achievement in F1 2011 worth 22 pointsSpend a total of 10 minutes slipstreaming your opponents in any game mode

Keep lapping until you get into the final lap, pass the guy and move into first and finish then finish the race in first.

It will pop the achievements individually, so don’t worry when only one pops at first.

So there you go 1 race and 3 achievements

Very good solution. You should write a walkthrough wink

Thanks, I was thinking about it, but it's finding the time to go back to it and write one up.

I would also want to game cap the chieves to make a video walkthough as well, which means going backwards really as I wrapped that game up a little while ago now and am a big push to get myself further up the racing game leaderboards.

Great solution, used this method for PC GFWL version of the game, still works in 2021! Got 4/4 mentioned achievements.

I followed exactly what you said and I got DQ'd on the last lap for "failing to use both tyre compounds" ... awesome, big waste of time.

Thank you for your complaint

I wrote this solution 12 years ago, back then it's likely that I assumed that most people playing an F1 game would know that you need to change tyre compounds during a race, after all it has been in the F1 rules for quite some time, so just went with:

Once you have that, it will pop straight away, pit and change tyres, when you come out it’s time to slow right down and let the driver in 2nd place overtake you

This can be easily accomplished during a 20% career or grand prix race. Simply pit late and you'll pass at least 6 cars while they are pitting. Pick one of the shorter tracks (like Montreal) that you can get around quickly. Set the AI difficulty to the easiest level to give yourself the best opportunity. The achievement will pop as soon as you pass the 6th car so you don't need to finish the race if you don't want too.

Thanks. I'm not sure why some people want to make things harder than they need to be. Glad you got it.

It says "lap" 6 cars, not "overtake". Which means you need to overtake them twice if you ask me... Just from the top of my head I'd set difficulty to low(est) and try for a longer run (say 20% at least) in a single race with a R&B, McLaren or Ferrari.

You can do it in a 20% but it's overtake so go hard at the back markers. Shanghai was the place for me thanks to a wet qualification and dry race - went a dry set up and had so much more speed down straight.

Great solution fireant! I did it at Brazil. Achievement popped while I passed everyone in the pits on lap 6. I'm not sure why some people have a hard time with the concept that when you pass another driver in the pits they go a lap down.

You need to gain a lap on the back 6 cars in the race to get this trophy. This just means you need to get around the track and catch up to the back of the pack during the race, once you get past the person in 19th you will get the trophy during the race. This is easiest in one of the top cars on easy in a race of at least 10% but you can combine it with some other trophies like Slap on the Wrist and Down to the Wire in a slightly longer race to save yourself some time overall, it also gives you more time to lap the 6 cars should you need it.

Start a Grand Prix of 20% distance, any track. Choose either Red Bull, McLaren or Ferrari and change the difficulty to easy. To lap a car, you must overtake them when they are on a different lap (less than the one you are on). With the AI being around 10 seconds slower on average (on easy) you should start lapping them after 7-8 laps. Simply lap 6 cars before the race finishes to be awarded the achievement.

If you have a lot of spare time and wish to make it easier on yourself, set the distance to 50% instead of 20%.
