How to unlock the Test Driver achievement in F1 2011 - Definitive Guide

I'm not positive, but I think that this has to be done in career. I did well over 500 miles in a grand prix practice session and didn't get the achievement. In career I did one long race weekend and got the achievement the exact lap I was supposed to. So I'm pretty sure that it has to be done in career.

You could gradually do this over your career and spread it out or do one long race weekend and do the full 4 hours of practice.

I got the achievement after 152 practice laps on Australia. This was in a long race weekend and I got the achievement during the final 5 minute warning in the last practice session, so you'll be cutting it close. If you don't get it, simply start the next race and you should have it in a few laps. You wont have to finish the race since the achievement pops right away.

I never ran an invalid lap on Australia in career, while I ran 30+ during the grand prix, so maybe that's why I didn't get it. To be safe, I would just do it in career.

"I'm not positive, but I think that this has to be done in career." seems a bit obvious as it states `Career `in the achievement description.. good desriptive guide nevertheless, a bit longer than i was hoping for.. ps sorry for the sarcasm at the begining of the comment

Its cool, I was thinking since the other career achievements say "in career" and this one says "in your career" it could mean spread out through your entire F1 career. Either way, its an annoying achievement.

Do you know if you can see how many practice miles you have already done?

I don't think there is a way of knowing exactly, but I started a new career and did it the first race, so if you go to my F1 and then to statistics and career, it should say how many miles, since it's a new career, just subtract the race and qualifying miles if you know them. This should give you a rough idea of where you are.

Is anyone aware if this is cumulative across Co-op and Single Career, or does all 500 miles have to be done in one or the other for it to count?

I'm wondering about this chieevo, I haven't foun anything pointing this for 100% sure but are thoose need to be valid laps or I can cut thet rack as much as I want? This way it's much faster on Monza or Montreal.

Good question, but Im not exactly sure. Either invalid laps dont count or non career laps dont count. One or the other, but Im not sure which.

people really were thinking "does this count outside career" when the achievement itself says "in Career"

Worth adding is (which now I can confirm) that theese laps don't need to be validated with valid lap times so you can cut corners as much as you want and obviously Monza and Canada are best for it because of best avarage lap speed (Monza is better).
When you reach thoose tracks in career pick long weekend.

I don't think it matters what track you do, it's for distance, not for total laps, right?

Can confirm that miles still register as being covered if you wind up wrecking your car and retiring out of the practice session.

A good opportunity to get this is in your hard season as all the practice you do will help you in qualifying and the races to make winning the championship easier. Always do R&D objectives in practice when you see them. They will add to this total and they get you upgrades for your car throughout the season which you don't want to miss out on. Be aware though, if you need a lot of practice on a track and are restarting the practice session for that race before it's ended, then this won't count towards the overall total.

Unfortunately, there is no place in the stat menu that tracks this total so it's a bit of a guessing game how far towards this trophy you are. You can keep track personally if you want, and you may want to do it if you finish your second season and this is all you are missing, although if you do a decent amount at each track you should get it pretty comfortably before the end of the season. Keeping track on your own would simply consist of checking the track length and then keeping a note of how many laps you have done, from that you can work out roughly how much progress you are making towards this trophy.

The best track for this if you want to do it in the shortest time possible will be Monza. If you set up a long race weekend when you reach that point in the career, then the 3 practice sessions should give you enough time to reach the total in one race weekend. If you don't want to commit to that during a season you can always make a back up of your save before Monza and restore it when you are ready to go for this trophy.

In Career mode, select either a short or long race weekend (long will have 3 practice sessions, short will only have 1) and drive around the track in practice. A track such as Monza would be the quickest, as there are very few braking points. If you only did Monza, it would take about 3 hours to cover 805kms. You may want to mix it up though. Use the time in practice to test out your car settings and try to improve upon your laps to keep things interesting.

Alternatively, you can do 10 laps on each track as you make your way through the season. This should see you unlock the achievement without too much monotony.
