You're correct, it's not a grind and this solution isn't me saying you HAVE to do it this way, it is just another way to do it
It's quicker and more fun to do the races yourself, but this site is for different ways of getting achievements and I just offered up a semi-idle way of doing it.

This can easily be boosted with one other person in a private lobby. Select Multiplayer then Custom Race. Select Lobby Options and in Session Options change the max players to 2, turn off practice/qualifying and set it to 3 laps. Change any other settings you’d like then return to the lobby.
Press X to select tracks and choose the Custom Season option. Press Y twice, then add the Austria track with X (this is the quickest track). Invite your boosting partner and both ready up to start racing. You can choose to idle the races due to the game driving for you when you pause during an online race.
After returning to the lobby from the previous race, all you need to do is ready up again. This is the quickest way to finish races and being able to idle it is a nice bonus.
