How to unlock the Ultimate Challenge achievement in F1 2016 - Definitive Guide

First off I want to point out that mid session saves don't effect this achievement. So save as much as you need to throughout the race.

Pro Career is in the main menu under the "Career" section.

Anyway, there isn't really an easy way to get this achievement as far as I know. Pro Career locks you into the hardest settings - So no assists, minimal HUD, simulation damage, 100% race distance, ultimate AI, cockpit view, no flashbacks ect...

Like I mentioned, using mid session saves doesn't stop the achievement from unlocking; so keep saving as often as you feel necessary. If you crash badly, just quit out to the dashboard, then reload the save by selecting "Pro Career" from the main menu again. When you load the save, it'll show you a replay, just hit cn_B and it'll take you back to the race.

You don't need to be on the lead lap when the race finishes either, so you could be 20+ laps down when the leader finishes and you'll get the achievement. You can't however park up on the side of the track as that will result in a disqualification. So do the best you can and don't forget to SAVE!

Good luck!

@TheGreatKoala - That actually might be a valid strategy, yeah. You would have to make sure you were off the racing line so you don't get a bunch of blocking penalties though, yes.

Would you advise coasting round in 2nd or 3rd gear on a course like monza? And maybe keeping clear of the racing line to avoid them as they lap you?

I did this on Austria, there are a lot of laps because it's short but has pretty wide run offs, staying off the racing line is a must and I messed it up a lot
I was about 30 laps down by the time it finished, I pitted a lot as well to get off the track when there is a big group coming - it's pretty hard to take damage in the pits

Also I wasn't sure if the mid-session save would void it like last year so I didn't use any

Engine wear is a thing though so going around in 2nd will most likely blow it

I'd also like to highlight that this says complete... not win. So as long as you bring the car home, even several laps down, it should still pop like the same achievement in 2015...

I hope!

I was thinking monza and 2nd gear as, if you're a novice, you won't have to brake much or worry about changing gears all the time with all the corners being 2nd gear or higher

Just to confirm you can save and exit too and come back at a later time. I did this multiple times and achievement popped. i personally did it on Australia so I didn't have to skip through races and drove at 8mph around the outside of the circuit until the AI had finished the race. A very boring tactic but keeps you out of the way and fine if doing it in smaller stints. I am not sure if it is important or not but once the AI finished the race you get a 3 minute timer. i made sure I finished the lap I was on within this time.

First of all sorry for my English :))

Start career and retire from Australian race. You need Bahrain or Spain beacouse both track have very long start/finish sector. What U need to do? After race is start move your car on the right side of the track close to pit wall. And stop. Just stop. After 10-15 second displayed warning. Move 1-2 meters until warning will disappear. Then wait again for warning and move car when displayed. Do so for the entire length of the pit wall. For me it's enough for 34 laps. Then I made 1 lap and repeat. When you see fireworks, its mean race is almost finish, made savegame (beacouse AI in this game are very stupid and can crash your car) and complete current lap. Watch or not cut scene, achievements unlock. And always use highest gear for avoid wheels spin.

EDIT: It appears this has now been patched & no longer works, please see the comments below.

I'm not sure if I was the lucky recipient of a glitch but I just coasted round Australia for 7 laps before a very inconsiderate Red Bull blasted me straight into a wall forcing me to retire. I advanced and as I was trying to reload my latest save the achievement popped (plus the one for completing a race with no assists)

So try just wrecking your car at Australia and advancing, it worked for me! Good luck.

EDIT: Big thanks to BCFCBristolRed & Howling Crazy for confirming that this is a legitimate solution. As they've both confirmed, just jump the start, legally start the race, wreck your car by driving into the nearest wall, retire from session and the achievement will pop after you choose to advance.

Absolutely spot on. I accidentally jumped the start, went straight into the back of car in front, wheel came off, out of the race. Whilst loading back to menu, the achievement popped. +1 from me, though no doubt this'll get patched.

Didn't work for me. I tried in the two first races. Jump start, smash my car into oblivion, retire, advance. No achievement.

That's concerning Fembot, maybe it's been patched. If anybody else can provide feedback I'll edit/delete the solution accordingly. Thanks.

Hey guys, not sure if the jump start unlocking the achievement has been patched or not but it seems it isn't working anymore. Two of my friends tried and I also did on my dummy account. It didn't unlock.

It did unlock for my dummy account and both my friends however, by legally starting the race, and just smashing into a wall to terminally damage your car, thus ending the race.

Pro Career will have the assists automatically set to Elite, so you will be doing everything manual like the formation laps, manual starts, manually changing gear, no traction control, manual pitting and realistic damage. You will have no HUD, no mini map, and you will be placed in cockpit view mode.

For many, this would be a breaker and an extremely difficult trophy were it not for an easy exploit. For this, simply skip all the Practice sessions, then Qualifying. When the race starts try to get another driver to crash into the back of you which will force you to retire. This will count as 'completing' the race once the results screen comes up. Just don't get yourself disqualified. Credit goes to NoMedic and Darth_Krid for proving this.

Note: The above method/exploit seems to have been patched out quietly with plenty of users saying it doesn't work anymore. The only way now is to just finish the race.

If you want to try this legit, don't worry as you don't have to do it in one stint due to the new feature of saving in mid-session. Regarding the saving in mid-session, if you do crash make sure to quickly back out of the application otherwise it will overwrite the save.

If the race leader has finished his race yet you are like 10 laps behind, this wont matter. You will have around 3 minutes to complete the following lap you're on, then the race will be finished, and the trophy should unlock (providing you weren't disqualified) once the game has finished saving.

Few tips:

  • Don't do this all in one go, I would be highly against it. Do it in stints.
  • Choose any team, though you will probably want to choose a weaker team, and just concentrate on completing the race. If you choose a team like Manor Racing, for example, you will be placed near the back of the grid, so this way you can concentrate on your own race for those inexperienced.
  • Stay off the racing line as much as possible as the AI has been programmed to stay on it.
  • When being waved blue flags (telling you to get out of the way of front runners), use to look behind you as to where the other cars are on the track, so you can quickly get out of their way.
  • Changing gears is now your responsibility in Manual. To change up press and to change down press .
  • Only accelerate as soon as you are on the straight after exiting the corner otherwise you'll just spin out/spin your rears with no traction control.
  • SAVE - Try to save every 1-2 laps just in case the AI do wipe you out or you smack into a wall. Speaking of that, even the slightest of taps into the wall will cause ultimate damage.

You just need to get to the finish line, even if you are 30 laps behind, they will give you a trophy, so feel free, if it’s difficult to drive without helpers, put it in 7-8 gear, so as not to turn around and drive slowly, the main thing is to let cars pass at the blue flag signals in time. Also use a save file just in case.

In versions 1.05 and higher, the only way to obtain it is to finish the race. Previously, you could simply create a critical accident where the AI would be the culprit.
