How to unlock the Another lap? achievement in F1 2017 - Definitive Guide
A Champion Star is the reward for having a driver reach Level 50 in Public Multiplayer.
To do this you will need to take part in Public Multiplayer races, and earn XP after each one.
You earn XP for doing various things, such as:
> Finishing a race.
> Finishing in the top half of the field.
> Winning a race.
> Finishing on the Podium.
> Having a penalty-free race.
etc.
You can also earn XP for completing various Milestones, such as:
> Reaching a certain number of races completed.
> Reaching a certain number of races won.
> Reaching a certain number of kilometers driven.
etc.
XP cannot be earned in the Online Championships or Custom Game portions of Multiplayer, which means there are no ways to shortcut this Achievement. You'll just have to grind it out and if you're fast/lucky enough you'll get more XP on average per race as the skill gaps between players seems quite high so far.
You can let the AI drive for you by pausing during a race, but your XP earnings will be drastically reduced.
If you Retire from a race your XP earnings will be drastically reduced.
Depending on your performance these are the approximate amounts of XP you can expect to get per event type:
> 5000 XP for a 5 Lap Race
> 12,000 XP for a 25% Race
> 25,000 XP for a 50% Race
> 1500 XP for Qualifying
During my time in Public Multiplayer these were my typical XP earning rates:
> 16000 XP per hour with only 5 Lap Races
> 25000 XP per hour with only 25% Races
> 40000 XP per hour with only 50% Races
The amount of XP required per Rank increases with each successive Rank, to the point where you will need around 33,500 XP to go from Rank 49 to Rank 50. I have not been tracking XP totals from the beginning but if I were to take a guess I'd day you would need around 1,100,000 XP to go from Rank 1 to Rank 50. I would advise you to not look at the big number and quite literally take it 1 Rank at a time.
Some other notes:
> Very few people do 50% races. Most of my races only had 2-3 people in them. This gives you a gauaranteed podium finish and if you avoid damage and penalties you could earn up to 35000 XP per race.
> 25% races typically have 5-10 people in them. They are a little riskier than 50% races but if you crash and retire you won't lose 40 minutes of XP earnings.
> You get the same amount of XP for running a short variation of a circuit as you do a long one, so if you're trying to optimise your time vote for short circuits wherever you can.
> Assists make no difference to the amount of XP you earn.
Along the way you will also unlock the following:
Good luck, you're going to need it as this Achievement requires over 50 hours of high quality driving against random online opponents.

As mentioned by guys above doing 5 lap races is your best bet.
Tips and hints for those who are new to F1 games or racing games in general:
Use Assists
Braking Assist: Off
Anti-Lock Brakes: On
Traction Control: Medium
Dynamic Racing Line: Corners Only
Gearbox: Manual and Suggested Gear
You may struggle at first but with enough practice, you should be able to get to grips with these assists very quickly and become very competitive.
Get some setups from Time Trials
Pretty straightforward... just jump into Time Trial mode with any car and try out some setups that you think would be decent (you can even try mine by adding me as a friend). Once you find the ones you like Save them with appropriate name that you could recognize when you want to Load it in Race or One-Shot Qualifying.
Play at odd hours
This may not suit to everyone... but I found out that If you play from around 23:00-7:00 (GMT 0) you're more than likely will be finishing in high positions like Top 5 or even podium and ranking up lots of XP and ticking off milestones very quickly... because of absence of most players who will be sleeping/working.
Optional: Vote for Classic Car tracks (C1 or C2)
This could prove quite hard at first as the overall grip for Classic Cars is much worse than 2017 cars, but with enough practice you could prove to be very competitive and also lots and I mean LOTS of players hate driving with Classic Cars so you there's always about 90% chance most of the people in your lobby will crash, spin or have issues of sort.
C1 Fastest Car: 2004 Ferrari F2004
C2 Fastest Car: 1998 McLaren MP4-13 (horrible handling)
C2 Best Car: 1992 Williams FW14B
NOTE: Traction Control on Full is a MUST for C1 car if you are not used to handling of those beasts. F2004 is pretty much given the fastest car in this game (without upgrades), so take this car every time you're in C1 race to give yourself the best chance at a good finish.
MP4-13 is fast but also very hard to handle especially on tight circuits like Monaco or Hungary
FW14B on the other although is slower than MP4-13 but it handles very nicely... so if you don't wish to risk it and struggle with MP4-13, I think FW14B is your best bet as C2 car choice.
Among all of the Online Achievements that are in this game, this is the one that will take you the longest to obtain. The description is not really helpful, but in order to get this, you need to reach Rank Level 50 in the game.
At the time of me writing this Solution which is around 2020, the Online Community for this game is pretty much low. Close to dead. I still had a handful of Random Players joining the Lobbies I was Boosting in, but not to a great extend.
Whilst all of these Solutions are very helpful, there is an Idle Boosting Method you can apply for in this game, if you are willing to leave your XBox One Consoles on for lengthy periods of time. And this is the method I decided to do, since I am a "Crap" Formula 1 Driver in Gaming.
Basically in order for you to do this Method, you will either need a minimum of yourself and a Partner, willing to go forth and get the XP needed towards this Achievement. Or you will need at least 2 XBox One Consoles and 2 Copies of the game. Personally I recommend the Double Box Method with a Dummy Account, as that would be the best strategy, so I will explain the remainder of this Solution as if you we're using a Dummy Account. But keep in mind, this does also work if you have a Partner wanting to get the Achievements as well as yourself.
Organization
From the Main Menu of the game, you will need to go into "Multiplayer", and then you need to choose "Public Matchmaking". You will be presented with a little Sub Menu asking about your "Matchmaking Preferences". This will be asking you how long you want the Race to be, whether it would be Short or Long. Using your on both Controllers, scroll the Circle on the Bar, all the way to the right, where it says the word "Longer".
Once you've done that, press the button on each Controller and both accounts will start Searching for a match.
There is a high chance no one else will be looking for these kind of Races, as they are extremely lengthy and time consuming, giving you a high chance in just you both finding each other, with No Randoms at all.
If you have both found each other, you and your Dummy should get the same message, so just click "Join Session".
Now in the Lobby, there will be a choice of 4 Tracks to choose from. Whichever one gets the most Votes, is the Winner and the track you will race on. You will need to Vote for a Track with both Accounts to speed up the waiting time in the Lobby. Once the Vote has been completed, after a short moment, you can then press on both Controllers to "Ready Up". Then the Track will start loading. The reason you want to do this quickly is because once a Random joins a Game that's "Race In Progress", they will have to be a Spectator until the next race begins. And not many people will be patient enough to wait for you to perform so many Laps around the track.
Tip: Do not place a Vote on a track that says the words "Short", unless it is required. If you Vote for one of these Tracks, it won't take long for the Race to be completed, before the Game needs your attention again.
Qualification
If the race your in requires Qualification of any sort. Press on both accounts. Then press to scroll right twice and then choose "Retire From Season". Both accounts will go into a Summary Menu and be given a small amount of XP. Whoever's first will get a bit more XP. But sadly, this first place position is not easy to be judged, as either you (hopefully), or the Dummy Account would get a 1st Place Bonus.
Note: You may be required to press the button in some of the Qualification Lobbies, before your Vehicle goes on the Track, giving you the chance to press the button.
The Actual Race
Now for the actual Race, you will need to wait for the Race to start. Once it begins, all you have to do with your Main Account is press the button, on your Controller to Pause the game. Once the Sub Menu appears, keep the game Paused at all times. What happens here is when you Pause the game in an Online Multiplayer Race, the Game will put your Driver into AI Mode, making the AI do all the work, of driving around the Circuit and do the Laps for you. The AI will not crash, giving you guaranteed success in completing the race and with this in mind, as long as you are still in that Race, you are guaranteed to get XP.
For the Dummy Account, you need to do the same. But the trick here is either let the Timer go down around 3 Seconds or less of Idling, then press the button on your Controller to prevent your Dummy from getting Disqualified for Idling too long, and awarded the Black Flag. Your pretty much doing this to give your Main Account a Distance lead from the Dummy Account, so that your Main Account gets a Win, and the most XP between the 2 of you.
Tip: Alternatively, if you want to make sure that your Dummy account doesn't overtake your Main Account whilst they both Idling, when the race begins, you can make the Dummy Account crash into the Wall a couple times and press . Or you can damage the Front Wings of the Vehicle, then press straight after. This alone will cause the vehicle to slow down to a great extend. Should your Dummy Account get Disqualified by mistake, then you will still get XP for your Main Account.
Note: A Downside during this Method of Idling is the Vehicles may go into a Pit. And some will go into the Pit on different Laps, depending upon the situation of the Race. With this in mind, it's a possibility your Dummy Account may overtake your Main Account and get a Win. If this happens, your Main Account will get less XP in the Race, than the Dummy Account. It's up to you if you want to rectify the situation if you know it's happened, or leave the game idle and just hope the situation doesn't happen again in the next Race, you and your Dummy Account go into.
And this is overall, the Idle Boosting Method for XP in this game you can use, should you wish to gain XP whilst you put your Controller down, walk away and let the game do all the work for you. You can even do this whilst you play on XBox 360, Windows Games, Other Consoles etc.
Additional Pointers
Everything I've said above assumes you would be doing this, either with just Yourself & a Partner, or with a Dummy Account. However if it's a possibility that you have more Bodies/Accounts that can take part in these Races, you will get more XP, if they remain in the same Games as yourself, after the Race is complete. But as you can imagine, it can be a gamble to plan out the Lobbies/Accounts and guaranteed success in winning 1st Place with your Main Account. Remember that none of the Accounts must not be Kicked all the time for Disqualification, and everyone has to Retire from the Qualification Races, before the Real Race actually begins. With all this in mind, I recommend you keep this Method simple and only give yourself enough Dummy Accounts/Players that you can all handle, without any ordeals or arguements. Me and my Dummy Account was enough for me to get a decent amount of XP anyways.
The amount of Laps you will be doing in the Race you and your Dummy Vote for is totally random.
I've had races in this Long mode that we're only 13 Laps Long which I thought was the Smallest. With the longest I would say the Longest I've seen is around 36 Laps. Obviously the more Laps your Accounts need doing, the more time they will need for Idling. So you will have to judge this yourself as to how long you can step away from the Controller and leave the game Idle for, as the game does need regular attention. The timewise in my opinion could be around 20m - 1 Hour before the race finishes. Maybe 1 Hour 30 Minutes tops. You will know when the Race is finished, because Music will start playing in the Background, even when the Pause Menu Screen has kept everything else in the game Silent.
Note: Sadly whilst you can Idle and walk away from the Controller for a bit. It cannot be Boosted in with a Turbo Controller throughout the Night, as the game will need regular attention, to get Rebooted and more Races to get underway.
In addition to the above, the game has a bad habit of Kicking either you or your Dummy Account after a handful of Races. I sadly have no idea why it does this, but it can happen at anytime during the Races your Idling on. You will know this will happen as the Menu Music will be playing, and you will be Kicked back to the Multiplayer Menu on your Screen.
The amount of XP you get, depends upon how well you do in the Race. Even Idling the whole race, if you win 1st Place against one Account. I believe you can get around 5000XP - 12,000XP. That's just me judging off my head. Obviously the more Accounts you have, the more XP you get if you win.
There's not many Randoms that play this game now. But during my period when I've witnessed some joining the Lobbies I participate in, some of them give up if it's a long, lengthy Race. With this in mind, if they Quit, my AI Driver usually overtakes them and because they participated, I get more XP instead of just having 2 Accounts overall.
Conclusion
Personally, I recommend you use a Combination of Idle Boosting & Normal Racing, to avoid the game becoming a Boring Grind like some other Games that have the same problem, of making you sit around and grind out what you need to do.
I only chose to Idle Boost this game from Level 1 - Level 50, because I'm not a good F1 Racing Driver in Gaming, and I used the Idle Boosting Time Periods to get my Daily Chores done, send Messages on Devices, Socialize with Family & Friends, and play Games on my other Consoles.
This Achievement sounds like a daunting task, but on one Saturday, I put in around a solid 10 Hours of Idle Boosting and I went from Level 23 to Level 36 in a single day. If your asking an estimate of how long it would take to get to Level 50, off my head I predict 20 - 30 Hours or so.
In addition to the above, you will get these Achievements, and possibly some more as well...
Hope all this helps and Good Luck in getting this Online Grind of an Achievement done. Your going to need it.
In addition to the guides above, it's entirely up to you how many laps you wish to do, being 5 laps, 25% or 50% races. Moving the slider all the way to the right will give you either 25% or 50% races - most commonly 25%.
From rank 40, I was participating in 25% and 50% races in order to get this achievement quicker.
Prepare for a long grind if your just starting this, but keep at it and you will eventually unlock this.
Good luck!

GLITCHED
A champion star is given for getting to online rank 50. You can obtain new ranks by getting experience points, which can only be gained in public multiplayer races. The better you perform, both in qualifications and races, the more XP you will gain. These are the ways to get XP in online races, again, the better your performance the higher the amount of XP you're getting:
- Getting Pole position.
- Getting a front row start.
- Completing a race (no DQ or DNF).
- Winning a race.
- Getting a podium place.
- Come in the top 50% of all drivers
- Drive clean laps (no collisions or leaving the track).
In addition to this you can earn extra XP by completing milestones that are tracked over multiple races, such as:
- Total number of pole positions.
- Total number of wins.
- Total number of podium places.
- Total number of completed races.
- Total mileage driven.
Regardless of your skill this trophy will take a long time to obtain because the required amount of XP to get to rank 50 is enormous. Good results will help save some time obviously but by far the most important thing is to simply finish your races. If you get disqualified or damage your car so badly that you can’t continue, you will only get a small amount of XP so always prioritize finishing the race over a good result (e.g. if you have a 'rammer' behind you just let him go past).
There have been a few reports of this trophy not popping for people upon reaching rank 50 but the cause is unknown and there's no fix if it does happen.
