How to unlock the Bright Spark achievement in F1 2018 - Definitive Guide

Just to give everyone a heads up of how long this should take.

I managed to get 10% of the way to the achievement and I had driven 280 miles or 450 kilometres.

So by my calculations 'Approximately' you'll need to drive 2800 miles in total or 4500 kilometres. This isn't a prefect calculation as some tracks are better for generating energy (Hard/Long corners).

*Figured out an easy way to grind this*
Go to unranked races, pick 25%, 50% or 100% race (Preferably longer races) When the race starts, just hit the menu button. You'll get credit for generating energy as the CPU drives for you. This will take longer than manually doing this yourself but with the free time you can watch a film, work or browse this lovely website! (I'd also make sure your ERS level to 5 to make sure the bar is always able to fill up). A 100% race on Brazil is about 10% of the achievement done and that takes around 1 hour 45 mins.

Luckily for this achievement you can use the achievement tracker which is pretty accurate. Online and Career races all help towards this so it should be one of the last achievements you go for.

Can you explain that? Level 5?

Got to 39% doing a Mercedes career. It hasn't moved since I started a new career with McLaren. Any ideas. ERS is set to automatic

What about car set up? Which preset is best? Do all modes count? Best in Time trial?

What should we be doing here? Building up or depleting the white or yellow line?

Hi Mark, you should be increasing the small battery at the bottom. It has a % sign. You increase it by braking and letting your foot off the accelerator while cornering (Engine braking).

I have just updated the solution to include a little flaw I've found.

Good tips but... you cant start an unranked race on your own?

Nope, you need to be with someone else. It beats driving on your own, as well, if they leave it doesn’t matter! Still not sure why this only has one thumbs up?

Any race regardless should worked, tried it with Grand Prix, time trail, online, anything time you race in a car that has the ability for ERS should work towards this achievement.

Well its not yet a perfect solution... I would like to know which game modes count. Thinking of doing time trial and just coasting round the track to fill the bar. My tracker also seems stuck at 44% after the first season.

You could also mention about prioritizing the ERS upgrades in the Powertrain tree to increased the recharge (in Career mode only of course)

The easiest way is to just let CPU work for you when you grind it online. That’s what solutions are for no?

Another tip:
Really good tip! With the LT+RT strat I was able to max out the recharge meter every lap in Monza. Really wish I had read that before slogging through career mode, because driving "normally" I only got to 50%.

My tracker has glitched on 99%. I suspect the tracker is counting all ERS generated real-time but in reality if you don’t finish a session (practice, quali, race, etc.) it’s forgetting and not banking whatever % you gained. Just a guess...

Could someone mark this achievement as buggy? I see lot of people getting it normally, we still don't know why there are people like me with that glitch.
I saw a post on codemasters forums, however there was no solution.
[Edit: I tried everything, online and offline races, starting without save synchronization]

Hey guys, a friend of mine had the tricker glitch at ~60% as well.
When he was doing races by his own the tracker made no progress at all.
Our idea was to start a 100% MP race and see if that helped. So I started a championship and we just let the AI drive for a while.
At some point in the race the tracker started tracking again and after a few more races he finally unlocked this chievo.

Oh and make sure to try and set ERS deployment to manual before you enter the race. He had it on automatic before. Maybe that was the trigger... I don't know for sure.

Maybe this'll help someone.

Thanks for that ride the brakes on the straights tip. Wish I'd known that earlier while I was grinding out career races and maybe I wouldn't have to be doing cleanup at the end. Either way, getting 2% per 13 lap race (25%) at Monza in Grand Prix mode thanks to this tip.

Was this fixed at all? Or did anyone ever find a guaranteed solution. I thought id go back and get this one after a few years and mine is stuck at 99% on the tracker. Did about 10-15 laps of Monza after the tracker hit 99% and still nothing

My progress is stuck at 89%. 2 25% online races and part of a 100% offline race haven't increased the tracker at all.

Another tip: on main straights of circuits, while keeping pushing the gas, push the brake button and keep on pushing it. You can see the yellow bar (Recharge bar) on bottom right quickly increasing. At high speeds, pushing both gas and brake seems to generate great amount of energy. Baku, Monza, Mexico are great circuits for this method. This method works also during turns, but less efficiently. Pay attention when the yellow bar is completely full, you can't generate/store energy anymore during that lap. Yellow bar resets at the very beginning of each lap and you can start storing energy again. I'm at 67% and just started playing the game week ago.

Finally unlocked this after 2070 laps 😡, I had done loads of races online, career etc and the tracker never moved from 83%. So I deleted my save and started doing online 100% races of Monaco (double boxing) Once the race started I left it to the AI to drive my car and turned the other console off, then I left it for 1hr 40 before joined in with second box again to start the next race. I’m not sure how many races I did but it wasn’t as many as I expected. After maybe 4-5 full race distances I checked my progress and it was at 99%. After a couple more laps it finally unlocked. I had previously deleted my save after I noticed it wasn’t tracking at about driver level 15. I had got to driver level 35 before I deleted It for the second time, which should have easily got me the achievement but it stuck at 83%. Definitely needs marking as glitchy.

The ERS (Energy Recovery System) deployment mode is a new addition tot his years’ game and allows you to manage the output of your battery to get some more horsepower into your engine. The ERS battery charges through braking and coasting with your car, while the energy gets deployed by accelerating and reaching high speeds. You can choose to set the ERS Deployment mode to automatic or manual, which makes no difference for this trophy.

For the purpose of this trophy I advise you however to set it to manual so that you can always assure that your battery doesn’t get fully charged and you can keep generating energy. To manage the energy deployment bring up your set-up menu while on track with the button and the last option will be the ERS settings. Make sure to always have this at least at ‘Medium (2)’ to not let your battery fully charge.

Unfortunately there’s no way to track your progress towards this trophy and it will take a long time to recover enough energy to obtain this trophy. Although all game modes (both online and offline) will count towards this trophy, this will likely be your last trophy remaining in the game anyway. However when you’ve done all the offline and online requirements for all other trophies you should be fairly close and simply have to keep racing in whichever mode you like best until this trophy pops. To give you a general idea, both me and other users have gotten this trophy when their driver in career had raced around 2,000 km and all other trophies (online and miscellaneous) were done.

It turns out that the battery needs to be charged, and not vice versa. I got the trophy after crossing the start/finish line on one of the laps, and there the charge is replenished.

The trophy is cumulative. All game modes count. The idea is that you need to accumulate a certain amount of energy throughout the game. It is impossible to track progress on this trophy in any way. For reference, I got it after driving about 4300 km in the quarry. The SRE mode was almost always in automatic mode. It must be taken into account that energy accumulation on all routes is different. Plus the fact that in the car improvement career there is a whole thread dedicated to this system.
