How to unlock the It's in there somewhere achievement in F1 2018 - Definitive Guide
Pick any track/car you like, but when you get around to setting the rules, make sure damage is set to at least full (you might get away with partial, but I haven't tried this). Make sure the Rules & Flags are turned off too. Also, go to your Assists and set Shifting to Manual. Everything else is up to you, but for those who want to get it done quick, set the race length to 5 laps.
Once the race starts, begin shifting up and down like crazy using the A and X buttons. This will wear the gearbox very quickly. You can check the wear on the gearbox by pressing B until you get to the last tab.
Just race along the track, shifting up and down as you go. You'll be aiming to get to at least 70% by the time you get to the last lap. If you get to the finish line and your gearbox isn't missing a gear, park up just before the line and continue shifting up and down until your engineer tells you that one of the gears is missing. Then, simply cross the line, and achievement unlocked. :)
following the guide
End of Lap 1 > ~15%
End of Lap 2 > ~30%
End of Lap 3 > ~45%
End of Lap 4 > ~60%
Before end of lap 5 = 70%
then park the car and repeatedly turn the gears from R to 8, the engineer will notify you a gear is missing, then cross the line, achievement pops.
Single Grand Prix: France
5 laps
AI skill: Zero
Damage: Simulation
Gear box: Manual (to start the race)
Start the race and mash the gear up/down buttons through the first 2 laps until you get to 70% damage on the gearbox.
At that point, switch the gear box to Automatic and save the game!
Run the race using automatic gearbox for the last 3 laps.
The gearbox will slowly continue to damage itself until at some point (hopefully) you lose a gear without completely jamming it.
Reload your saved game if you need;
I think it's the going up/down through the gears (1-2-3-4-5-6-7-6-5-4-3-2-) that makes it fail one gear only.
As the last few corners of the French track have a lot of up/down sequence, it should help induce a failure.
Of course your mileage may vary. Good luck. (it's a stupid achievement anyway, too random)
I was at the final stretch without a lost gear, having followed the guide exactly, but you can still fiddle the gears up and down even in automatic mode, and it dropped out (the gear) seconds from the finish. Good guide.
When the wear level gets above 70% that's when it's more likely to fail. Unfortunately there is a random % chance that this unlocks every race but the more battered your gearbox is the better.
I got my achievement during Hockenheim. Just keep finishing races and cycling through the tracks until the gearbox misses a gear.
Start up a new career with Williams (so they are not expecting brilliance from you and will lower your chances of being sacked)
Make sure the difficulty is on very easy and lap length is 100%.
Skip through practice and qualifying and straight to the race. Then sim the race. The gearbox will probably wear around 9 or 10%. Keep doing this until your rep has decreased to the lowest. Usually after Spain or Monaco. Then whilst loading into the next location change the lap length to 5 laps.
You can now do a couple of races to boost your rep again, switch laps back to 100% and sim some more races until your gearbox hits around 70%.
From here switch back to 5 lap races and keep going through races. Once your gearbox is between 87 and 92% the next race you do will be the one you pop it on. Luckily the achievement pops as soon as you cross the line so if it does not pop simply restart the session. Keep doing this race until it pops.
Couple of important notes to keep in mind
- Do not apply any upgrades to your car
- After Monaco, you will be asked if you want to switch out your gearbox penalty free. Do not say yes
This took a while to figure out but this should work fine.
If it works or doesn't post in the comments and hopefully I can help
English:
The trigger for the gear break is exactly 90% wear. (Save the game exactly at 85% for security). Jeff will tell you to slow down. Keep pushing. A little later Jeff will tell you that a march is missing. But there is a problem. After some time the march starts again !!! It happened to me twice in the same race. I calculated between 30 and 40 seconds before the march back. So you have to do all this on the last lap.
YOU SHOULD CROSS THE ARRIVAL LINE BEFORE THE MARCH BACK! Good luck. I've tried 7 times.
This trophy can only be done in career mode and requires a bit of luck due to its randomness. As you complete sessions in your career different parts of your car start to get wear, one of which is the gearbox. As per the FIA rules you need to compete at least 6 races with a gearbox before you are allowed to install a new one and the game will ask you automatically to do so. For this trophy however you want to decline that offer and keep racing with the same gearbox to accumulate wear until it reaches at least 70%. Usually at this point the gearbox will start to malfunction during races which sometimes leads to losing a gear. Unfortunately if this happens relatively early into a race, the issue seems to resolve itself and the trophy won’t pop, so you need a bit of luck that this happens towards the end of a race. Remember that you’ll have to complete close to 2 seasons for other trophies so you’ll have several gearboxes you can try this with.
If you haven't been lucky enough to obtain this trophy by chance, there's a way to make this a bit easier. Start a Grand Prix or make a backup save in career before a race when your gearbox has enough wear. Race normally until the last lap and then change your settings to manual shifting if you don't use them already. Now start shifting up and down as fast as you can and your gearbox starts to wear really fast. Keep doing this until you lose a gear and then finish for this trophy to pop. Credits for this method go out to Lightsp33d1987and Quickey.
Please refer to the video below for visual aid on how to do this, Video courtesy of Lightsp33d1987.
-Select the Australian circuit;
-Damage in simulation, manual gait and three laps;
-Press B until you see the screen with the exchange damage;
-When you start, during the entire first lap, keep going up and down from second to third gear;
-The first lap will end about 40% damage. Second lap at 80% and probably one gear missing.
-If you have not lost the gear, you should do the third lap changing from the sixth gear to the fourth gear.
-But even doing all of this needs luck to break the gait. Seven attempts were made to obtain.
* I tried to do it in career mode as the explanation above but I did not achieve the same achievement without a march. Maybe I was unlucky ...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Está ali, em algum lugar"
-Selecione o circuito da Austrália;
-Danos em simulação, marcha manual e três voltas;
-Aperte B até visualizar a tela com os danos do cambio;
-Ao largar, durante toda a primeira volta, fique subindo de descendo da segunda pra terceira marcha;
Talvez tive azar...
I got it naturally, at Hockenheim in my 2nd season. No need to make a special effort, it'll come naturally anyway
Let's look at three options for getting this trophy.
1) Ideal - Random - if you are “lucky” and one of the gears is missing in your career or in any other race.
2) Undesirable - you can purposefully lose a race during your career towards the end of the season. To do this, install the old gearbox and finish it off completely during the race.
3) The fastest (it’s the one in the video) - Regular grand prix, Monza track, Sauber car, 3-lap race, “simulated” damage, manual gearbox. The method of destroying the box is as follows: Quickly switch from first to second or from third to second without releasing full throttle. About 2 laps is enough to kill the box by 90%, after which you can carefully finish it off by switching from third to eighth and lowering it in the same way. Next, we hope for luck while waiting for Jeff’s message on the radio about the “loss of transmission.” The main thing is not to break it to 100% until the end of the race, otherwise there will be a loss and they won’t give you the trophy.
