How to unlock the Data Gatherer achievement in F1 2020 - Definitive Guide
NOTE: as of 7/7, the description for this achievement on TA states "Complete a Practice Programme in F1 during My Team or Driver Career" but this is NOT correct. You must complete TEN separate practice programmes. The description in the Xbox guide is correct, which is why the guide also tracks percentage complete.
The actual achievement is fairly straight forward to complete - start a new career in either mode and launch the first race weekend. Once you finally get into the garage, press the button to go to Session Info and it will default to the selection of practice programmes (it's the second menu item when using the RB/LB to navigate, the icon is three circles connected with two lines). Select a programme with the left stick and , then press again to confirm tyre choice, and then a third time to actually go out on track (Flying Lap is fastest, but either option is fine).
You'll need to pass each objective to get credit, but it's not necessary to get Optimal points - as long as you don't fail the objective, you'll get credit for completing the programme. Most programmes will give you 3 laps to complete the objective.
Lowering the AI difficulty should also make your objectives a little less difficult, and turning the Racing Line on in the Assists menu can really help if you're not familiar with the tracks. Once out on track, if you press up on the d-pad once, you can change your fuel flow rate to Rich to improve acceleration and top speed - this option is NOT available in the fuel or ERS management programmes.
The programmes and their requirements are:
- Track acclimatisation - follow the racing line and hit the various gates on track at racing speed to score the required number of points. You get more points for hitting them in the center of the gate and the faster you go through them, and bonuses for chaining gates. You will also score points by opening your DRS quickly enough when crossing the lines on track - you'll see a highlight on the track, press before you cross this area to get points.
- Tyre management - complete a lap within the required time limit while not causing too much tyre wear. The goal is to keep the meter in the purple section. Brake early, drive smoothly through the corners, and accelerate gently out of corners to keep the meter high. If you increase your fuel flow rate to Rich to help get a faster lap time, just be extra gentle on the throttle input to keep the rear tyre wear down out of the corners.
- Fuel management - complete a lap within the required time limit while not using too much fuel. The goal is to keep the meter in the purple section. Lift off the gas way early going into corners and coast before applying the brakes - you'll need to brake a little later than normal to make up the time lost for going slower, but you will be going slower so you shouldn't have to brake as early as you would on a full speed lap.
- ERS management - complete a lap within the required time limit while not using too much of your ERS power. The goal is to keep the meter in the purple section. Using the LB turns overtake on/off - just leave it off and don't change any settings on the d-pad menu and you shouldn't have too much difficulty with this one.
- Qualifying pace - go flat out and get a lap time under the target time. Your fuel flow rate should default to Rich and your ERS settings to Hot Lap, and you should leave them there. Not much else to say as far as tips here, just keep practicing if you're having trouble.
- Race strategy - complete consecutive laps under the target time to score enough points to pass. You have 5 laps total, but if you can do three in a row under the target time you will score full points. No need to worry about tire wear or fuel consumption, just set your fuel rate to Rich and go flat out.
There are only 6 programmes available in each weekend, so you'll need to do at least 2 race weekends to get the required 10 completions. If you find you are having difficulty with a specific programme type, just skip it - there is no penalty other than needing to do additional race weekends to pass 10 programmes in total. You can also complete them under multiple drivers/careers if you want, as long as you complete 10 total on your gamertag.
