This can be done in any mode; Career, My Team, or paired with another achievement in a Grand Prix race (unsure about online, but in theory it could/should work).
Just be sure to select an option for qualifying under 'Weekend Structure' settings.
Get Pole position in which ever qualifying format you choose, and the achievement is yours :)
I would recommend using 'One-Shot' qualifying to go towards the "1 Lap is all i Need" achievement for completing 10 One-Shot qualies.
