The compendium is the sticker book located in F1 World. To complete a set, you will need 1-4 stickers that combined form a picture. It is a matter of luck for which stickers you collect (duplicates are unfortunately possible), but if you're lucky, you'll get one of the 1-sticker sets.
In order to get stickers, you can progress through the Braking Point story mode or do F1 World challenges/races or Multiplayer Races. Stickers can also be earned in the Podium Pass.
Once you have stickers, go to the compendium in F1 World, press A to enter any of the chapters, and then hit X so that it filters to only show the entries you have stickers for (saves a little time) and then just add them as you go. This can be very easily done via progression for Braking Point and all the career/multiplayer races you need to do for other achievements.

How do you access the Compendium? I've completed Braking Point and it's still greyed out!

If anyone else gets confused on this, you have to unlock the Compendium in F1 World. From the main menu:
F1 World -> Play -> Series
To unlock the compendium you need to complete the Welcome to F1 World series (3 short races), then complete 15 laps in any race (annoyingly, the races you've just completed don't count). Most of the early Series races are 5 laps, so do three races here and the compendium will unlock.
You can use the Series here to progress/unlock a bunch of other achievements too.
