How to unlock the The Duellist achievement in Fable II - Definitive Guide

You unlock chain attacks when you upgrade Brutal Style to level 3. If you time your attacks correctly, you'll see a blue streak follow your weapon. Get several chain attacks in a row, and the achievement will pop. Your hits don't need to connect with enemies, you can feel free to find an open area and try as many times as you need just swinging in the air.

I was having a lot of trouble getting the rhythm right. But I came across a great suggestion: try using a metronome.

http://www.metronomeonline.com/

I used the Hammerthyst, maxed speed, with 96 BPM. Just hit X every time you hear the noise. You can do this with any weapon, and don't need to max speed, but the tempo will vary and you'll have to find another number that will work for you.

I only had level 2 speed and was using the Hammerthyst but I found 92bmp using the metronome worked fine.

Brilliant method. Very easy. Took less than a minute to get the achievement using the Hammerthyst at level 4 speed.

Perfect! The only reason I struggled a bit is I kept trying to anticipate the clicks so 100% my fault. Once I relaxed and just let the metro take over in my mind it was seconds and then a I got it. I agree with people who say this should be the top solution!

Amazing I have been trying on and off since I GOT this game for that achievement. 5 minutes after trying the metronome BOOM. You have made my day bro, I would give you 1000 thumbs up if I could.

metronome method deserves to be the top solution.

i grabbed the diachi sword after completing archon's knot. continue down the path and there will be a ledge. stand at the ledge and you can swing. i used the metronome at 160 BPM with max stats and nailed this in about 10 seconds.

If one does not have a metronome, a face clock that ticks once each second can have the same effect. wink

Unbelievable, got it in less than a minute after installing a free metronome app on my smartphone. 96 bpm (4/4) for a master axe and Speed skill at level 4.

There's no need to have max speed, all you need is to unlock chain attacks, which might be Brutal Styles level 3, I can't remember.

The reason I mention speed is because it changes the tempo. You don't need max speed, and you don't need the Hammerthyst, but I can't guarantee 96 BPM is the right tempo if you try anything else.

Thanks to XiRe x Harvey above, tried this for a few mins with a Sword and never got a blue swish. Read the comment above and bought Brutal Styles lvl3 and unlocked it within 10 seconds so thank you

Just wanted to toss in here several years later I unlocked this WITHOUT having a full speed level. I have a 3-star level and chain attacks unlocked. I did this achievement with the Rising Sun weapon in the middle of the Crucible. Good luck to everyone out there!

I just went to a field in Oakfield and swung my sword. Instead of mashing X as fast as I could I simply delayed each swing, just barely, until a blue streak showed up. That gave me the proper cadence. I then just pressed X a few times at the same pace with the blue streak showing up each swing. Cheevo popped after about 10 seconds of swinging in the field. No enemies or other NPCs around.

SeattleDSL's advice is clutch. I was having a heck of time getting this against enemies who kept dodging or parrying. Just go into a field with your weapon of choice and slash until you find that right cadence. Once you slash blue, you've timed it right.

I upgraded my speed used the Hammerthyst and I still couldn't get it.
What worked for me was what is mentioned in the video below. Rhythm, I found tapping my x button as a steady rhythm worked, the trick is you have to find the right speed for you, try going slower or faster until you see the blue arc from your swing, once you track to the right speed lock it in and just keep at it. Also find a clear spot where you can swing but don’t move forward, like a ledge or something. And FYI I actually ended up using my speedier master cutlass instead of Hammerthyst weapon, I think I was just tapping too fast with the slower Hammerthyst.

Good luck and be patient.

You're absolutely right about the rhythm! I did something similar last night. I got to a ledge and essentially planted myself in one spot. Except as strange as it sounds, when I couldn't get the achievement VISUALLY by watching for the blue arc in my swing, I closed my eyes and got it AURALLY by timing my button presses to the SOUND of the swing. I had the achievement within a minute or two after that.

fo sho it's all about the rhythm! i couldn't get it until i turned the volume off, i think the sound effects of swinging the daichi were throwing me. once there was no volume, i got it in seconds.
hope fable 3 doesn't have as many irritating cheevs, or i'm in for a frustrating christmas...

In case anyone is wondering, to get here you go to Quest/Maps>Regions>Wraithmarsh>The Drowned Farm. When you get there you're gonna have to kill the three monsters in the water and a Banshee then you're good for the rest of the time. I got this first try here with the Master Hammer that someone gave me. I just looked at the blue light and just easily timed it.

Having your Speed at around level 4 should be better for getting this achievement, along with a slower weapon (axe or mace) to aid in the timing (slower swings). Make sure your Brutal Styles is also level 3 so you can do chain attacks.

Get yourself into an open area (an uninhabited one if you don't want to scare people) and begin swinging. You'll have to press X at the peak of the previous swing for it to count as a chain attack.

You can visually see the difference between a regular swing and a chained swing by the colour: chained swings leave a blue trail after each one. Do this five times in a row and the achievement is yours.

I guess I suck at chain attacks, I can't seem to do this. :)
Your guide sounds as if you can just swing your weapon in thin air, is that true? You don't actually need to be attacking an enemy? If so I will just keep trying till I get it. :P

THANKS! It just didn't occur to me to use a slower weapon.

And yes, it just wants 5 in a row, it doesn't care about enemies.

Finally got this last night after upgrading to speed level 4 (failed a few times with speed at level 3).

Was using the legendary weapon from the Temple of Light donations on the shoreline of Bower Lake (just swinging in thin air for "d3vilsNight").

Took a couple of attempts to get my timing right but unlocked very soon after :)

I think the timing is slower than a lot of people think. I actually got this by accident, was using the "Rising Sun" (one you get from temple of the light), and did it while talking on the phone to my wife. I was just frustrated from trying for so long and while talking on the phone I tapped the x button with my other hand. Very deliberate taps on the button. It's hard to explain, but now I can do it consistently.

Agree with what everyone else here is saying, completed it myself with a katana. Just used to the timing on the katana better! Failed it at speed level four but speed level 5 worked the trick!

I used cheapest Katana I could buy and it took me 5 swings. I tried it with my axe and kept getting up to 8 and it wouldn't pop.

Harvey--the reason I mention max speed is because your speed alters the tempo. If you use a weapon other than a Hammerthyst, or you don't have max speed, then I can't guarantee 96 BPM will work. You can still get it regardless of speed, but you might have to futz around and figure out the correct tempo yourself.

You need to level up Skill > Speed to level 5 and then you'll need to level up Strength to at least Brutal Styles 3.
Then find an open empty area.

This requires is a chain of 5 chain attacks. A chain attack is an attack that rolls off the last attack, so pressing X at the peak of the previous swing will unleash a chain attack, which is indicated by the blue swing. You need to chain 5 of these together, one after another.

-note that the video is not by myself-

i was having all kinds of problems trying to get this, until today. what i did was i used the dalchi sword. i know all the other guides say to use a slow weapon, but i couldnt ever get a single blue line using those, let alone five. i went to the top of the mountain in bower lake where you exit from the guild cave. i positioned my guy against the edge, so that he wouldnt move around all over the place. i tapped x, lifted my finger up and counted to one x, then tapped again. this worked out for me. just give yourself about one to two seconds before hitting the x button again.

First, be sure you have the Brutal Styles at level 3 which is chain attacks. Then use any weapon you liked for example I used a the Daichi and it worked.

You have to press the X button at the end of your swing. Each time you press your character will accelerate his motion. Don't forget that you'll need to press the button faster and faster. When you have some blue trail continue to accelerate and the duellist achievement sould pop out in you screen

Note: I don't know which level you must be in speed to do it but I know you need to the level 3 in Brutal Styles in the Strengh category

I tried to do this with various weapons and suggestions but could never get the timing down. While trying to get some co-op achievements with the second controller, it seemed to me that the window of opportunity for the combo is larger. I just pressed X on both controllers and nailed that achievement in one shot, no particular rhythm, it just unlocked and really surprised me how simple it was. I noticed also that both weapons had much more consistent "blue" swings.

Like Honra mentioned in his video you do not need to be fighting any enemies to get this achievement.Just make sure that your under SKILL you have your SPEED maxed out which is 5 stars.Make sure you have nothing blocking your path such as a wall, tree, rock.Choose a clear path. Then, between every swing you make with [X] you have a pause with your weapon.[X],pause,[X],pause,[X],pause,[X],pause,[X].Be patient and get feel for it.Good luck.

The higher the upgraded speed you have, the easier it is for you. Grab any good sword, and swing it with a rhythm. You'll see a blue light coming out of it when you are doing it correctly. Maintain this blue light for around 8-10 swings, and it should unlock. Might unlock at fewer swings.

Or you could use the guide below:

I've helped 100+ unique players with achievements in Fable II and I have no intention in stopping. Players join my game, and I will unlock the achievement within a very short period of time after you've joined. The procedure is swift and requires nothing from you except that you have both of the DLCs installed. This can be either the free versions or the premium ones.

As long as this achievement is up, I'm offering the help. Simply send me a friend request, and a message stating the reason you've added me, and I'll help you the next time I'm free. Please don't send me messages asking me when you can get help, as I always keep in mind my "businesses" and I won't forget about you. And because my friends list is set to only have certain people, I can therefore not keep you on my friends list, unless we've agreed that I will.

Now, go ahead and send me those messages! I'm eager to help out :)

Unlock this, and every other Fable II achievement in the Fable II Walkthrough
