First, buy 5 houses. Then, buy a piece of furniture.
Go into the first house and press UP on the D-Pad to add your new furniture. This puts the old furniture in your inventory and still counts as upgrading in the other houses.
Now, just run into 4 other houses you own and press UP on the D-Pad again and leave for the next house. After pressing UP for the 5th house, the achievement unlocks.

I wouldn't even bother buying the furniture. I'd just use the stuff I either get gifted to me, or I dig up.

After like the 3rd house, it's telling me the house is "in the best possible condition considering my available furniture." I don't even remember where or how to get new stuff, it's been awhilesince I played this. Just achievement hunting now.
