How to unlock the Set Them Free! achievement in Fable III - Definitive Guide

Edit: This achievement is glitched, so you have to open the Demon Dorr from the DLC "Traitors Keep" at first, otherwise the achievement will not pop up.

1. The demon door is on the prison island Ravenscar.

For this Demon door you must wear the prisoner outfit. Fot this you need: Bandana ; Top ; Trousers ; Shackles ; Boots
All this things can be found in chests on this island. For the trousers you mus complete the "Undead Sentence" to get this quest, just stay some time on the island. After finishing it you are near the chest with the trousers.
Wear all the clothes an go to the demon door, then it will open.

Credits for the last demon door goes to: ESS3NC3 0F 3V1L , thx for that.

2. Mistpeak Valley:
This Demon Door in the snowy area just up from the Lake. You you will need a Co-op partner. You can either marry your co-op partner in front of the door or go through all of the different positive expressions until it opens.

3. Brightwall:
Just inside the front gate of Brightwall and straight to the right. For this Demon Door you just need to bring your own child to it and perform a happy expression.

4. Sunset House
This Demon Door is at he sunset house whisch can be found in the wooded area to the left of the path after entering the region from Mourningwood. To open the door you must to be King or Queen of Albion.

5. Mourningwood
This Demon Door can be found next to the small village in Mourningwood. It requires the player to have a skill (melee or ranged) at level 5.

6. City of Aurora :
This Demon Door can be found near the trail that leads up to the city gate to Shifting Sands. You must to be 100% good or evil morality. If you fulfill this criteria, just walk up to it and it will open.

7. Millfields
This Demon Door can be found near the lake behind the houses that are below the small Millfields cemetery. For this Demon Door you are required to ignore fashion sense. You need to wear an outfit that makes you look like a fool (Women's Pyjamas or Men's Pyjamas work fine if you are of the opposite sex and if you colour the clothing articles different colours). This door also wants you to neglect your body so eat till you are fat.
If you are having trouble with it try sleeping in one of the houses near the door; it seems the door needs to reset before it will recognize the changes.

at least they left yours up... I started one with the same intention, got 6 negative votes, and had it removed "for inappropriate content". Simple solution: no more posting solutions to help, which will aid in keeping the TA ratios higher!

Ribeseel: I would asume it has something to do with the fact that you only list 6 out of 7 doors. Update it with everything needed for the achievement and i'm sure they will change.

It gliched on me, it seems after getting the dlc, you get credit for all previous doors, but if you don't open the last door in the same session the counter starts over. Diary collection did the same thing for me.

I got shafted by the DLC glitch with the counter re-seting...trying to finish a playthrough to get them all, not touching the freaking doors til I'm able to go after all 7 in one go.

I got screwed by the counter resetting as well. Both this achievement and the achievement for General Turner's diaries reset. Looks like another playthrough for me...

Is there some quick way to see how many doors you've opened previously? I couldn't seem to find that in any of the menus last night. I've got two save files and know one of the characters had opened more doors than the other. Didn't want to travel and check each one if I could help it.

Also I just started this last night and got a update for the game. Are the glitches fixed?

No, the glitches are not fixed. Try going for it all in one session as the earlier commentator suggested. I did everything except the demon doors in one session.

You DONT need to open the DLC door first. You just have to start opening doors with the DLC already installed. The order in which you open the doors DOESNT matter.

Just completed this DLC, experiencing 0 glitches. I also saved my game and turned off my console a total of 3 times in the process (didn't complete in one session). As soon as the books were made available, I went for them immediately. There is only one book in Clockwork Island that you will have to complete the game in order to pick up. The others will become available periodically as you progress through the main quest. As far as the Demon Doors go, I started the DLC having ALL of the original 6 Demon Doors already opened. My counter was updated to 6/7 as soon as I began the DLC. I beat the main quest, collected the prisoner suit, and approached the door. He opened up after a quick line or two. I'm not sure if they've fixed the glitch or if having these things in place might help someone later. Hope it helps someone!

If you join another game the counter will be reset. thats the glitch. it hapend yesterday to a friend after i gave him all weapons.

I have two characters with whom I´ve completede the main game. The firste character glitched this chieevo as I had opened some doors prior to downloading Traitors Keep. I then thought - hey, U just transfer the prison to the second character and run through all seven doors in 1 go - but I havent got the oppertunity to gift away the prison suit! Do I really need to complete Traitors Keep a second time to get the prison suit?

No glitching here. I had the DLC from the beginning. Did Mistpeak door first (as host), then Millfields. A counter popped up for both. Then I did the Ravenscar door. It opened, but NO counter appeared. I then opened Mourningwood (showed 4/7), Sunset House, Aurora, and finally Brightwall. Counter was correct, achievement popped, and counter did not linger. I did play local co-op as guest my alt account's hero, after doing Mistpeak.

If you aren't 100% good, how can you increase it so you are. I need to open the one in Aurora but I'm not 100% good, Pretty close though. Is there a way... or do I have to go all the way to 100% evil?

I bought the game when it first came out and finally bought the DLC when it went on sale a few months ago. Had 4 Demon Doors open prior to downloading the DLC. I went and opened the Ravenscar Keep door and the counter only reads 1/7 (should be 5/7). I quickly dashboarded so that the game did not save. Am I screwed? I don't want to have to play through this again... I have had no other glitches with this game. The books all recovered fine even though I didn't do it in one sitting and even had most of them before finishing the DLC quests.

If anyone is still wondering about this, I started the game about a month ago. During the play through, I opened a few of the demon doors. I beat the main story and did collectibles. Then, today in one session I got the 5th and 6th demon doors, then downloaded the DLC. After downloading it and playing until you get off the ship, a counter appeared for "Set Them Free!" First it said 4/7, then 5/7, then 6/7 (I had a mini heart attack when it first said 4/7!). I then played through the DLC main quests. Still in the same sitting I beat the main quests, got the book and robot collectibles, and opened the last demon door and the counter 7/7 appeared and the chievo popped. No problem with any of the books either. Not sure if doing it all in the same sitting affected it, but that's what I did. I also have never gone into anyone else's world. Hope this helps someone!

ok ive tried this on a few doors and I did do the dlc door first. get the door to talk to you completely then leave and come back. that has been getting the counter to pop for me.

It's still glitched/bugged along with Crysis 2 tooled up i'll never complete these games ><. Huge waste of time I already had one door opened after not playing for years then came back to do the DLC opening the rest of the doors and it never poped I have to start a new game anyways but I really think this game should have an update to fix the glitch.

Also I did the local co-op Mispeak door and he opened it after I hugged my other xbox live account. But it never showed the counter. Pretty sure it's 6/7 or 5/7 since I have one opened from before the DLC come out. Ganna try to join my friends world to see if it works to where it clears the count or something but I really dont see this working without starting a new game and deleting the DLC then clearing the catch.

Fantastic guide. The achievement glitched on my main character, as I bought the DLC several years after starting the game and opening the first few Demon Doors. Luckily I had recently created a second character to get the female outfits and finish the game without getting knocked out. I ran through the Traitor's Keep quests, opened the Ravenscar Demon Door first and then opened all of the Demon Doors in one sitting (I used a local guest account to open the Mistpeak door). It probably took around 3 hours or so altogether. Achievement unlocked as it should.

I don't know if it's necessary to play the game in one sitting, not play with anyone on Xbox LIVE or create a new game after downloading the Traitor's Keep DLC. From what I've gathered, you should be fine as long as you make absolutely certain not to open any of the Demon Doors until you've opened the Ravenscar Door first.

Again, great guide and two thumbs way up!

when i havent started the game yet what should i do first? someone said you shouldnt play coop before you did the rest but this guide says i should open the gate that requires coop pretty early.

do not enter co-op in the middle of ANY collect quest. If you're ready to do all of the doors, then do the co-op door first. I think that can be done locally though.

I think you need to edit your solution as I just got it: I completed the main story quest and opened all six Demon Doors before purchasing the DLC. Then when I started the game after buying the DLC it immediately said "Set Them Free 0/7" followed by 1/7, 2/7, 3/7, 4/7, 5/7, and 6/7. I played through the DLC (although I hadn't done the final quest: Decide the future of the Keep), I found all the prisoner's clothes, went to the final Demon Door, and the achievement popped. As others have said, if you play co-op once the counter ?/7 appears then it seems to reset the counter, so as long as you do it solo then I'm convinced it is possible to still earn this achievement.

I just wanted to confirm that in my case I opened all of the demon doors in the mainland first and opened the demon door on Ravenscar Keep LAST and was able to unlock this achievement.

i'd say just as long as THIS particular demon door is opened last you should have no problems.

7 - Mistpeak Valley

The achievement popped up, probably not glitched anymore but can't speak for everyone roll

Just an update for those that are trying this now that it was released for free. I had unlocked 3 doors before I downloaded the DLC and when I loaded the game up again the counter popped up three times and showed 3/7. I then went on to open the other 4 starting with Ravenscar and ending with Mistpeak (but I don't think this mattered). After each one, the counter did not pop up or update until I opened the last one. Then it popped up saying 7/7 and gave me the achievement so it doesn't look like it is glitched anymore. Played this on the xbox one through backwards compatibility

Unfortunately I was smacked in the face with the glitch... Had opened Brightwall waaaay back (save must be around 6years old easy...) and the counter seemingly started again. Ah well. Guess its a speedrun for me now. That said I was having so many issues trying to get the DLC run on my 360 (multiple times it was failing to register enemies existence, cutscenes failing to play). Backwards compatibility on my Xbox One seemed more stable so maybe with my game there was some other underlying issues.

DIDN'T GLITCH! I Just got the achievement! I didn't open the doors in this order but got it anyway. Maybe because I'm playing on XBOX ONE, and the game got "updated" for this console, so the bug might have gotten fixed. Either way, thanks!

Regarding the 3 comments above: It's not the order that is important, but NOT playing in someone else's world through co-op!

Luckily I haven't started the DLC yet and I guess I won't at this point, because I noticed that when I went into someone else's world to trade weapons, my demon door counter went from 4/7 to 1/7 at the next opened door after going back to my own world.

For the Mistpeak Valley door - proposing didn't work for me and I kept getting negative responses for all of the positive expressions. It turns out you need to hold down A for most of the good expressions until it tells you to release so it performs the longer animation. This may be obvious to some, but I was doing this after not having played the game in years, so I'd forgotten that was a thing. I'm just adding this for anyone else who may be in the same situation.

Works fine in September 2020. Imported a nearly 8 year old save file from 360 to Xbox One that had 4 doors unlocked already and no problemo.

Unlocked this achievement today even though i unlocked 3 other demon doors before i unlocked the DLC demon door, no glitch for me, dont give up, there is still a hope!

I did not know this was glitched so I opened some doors before the DLC one. I was still able to unlock it by doing the following:

- Opening all doors but Mistpeak Valley without having the DLC installed.
- Create a second account and play until you first come to the dwellers camp (don't know if you could just create the character, though).
- Install DLC. At this point, soon after I entered the game, I saw a "Set them free 5/7" badge at the bottom left.
- Do the DLC quests to get the prison suit then open the prison door. I saw "Set them free 6/7" at this point.
- With the second account, log in my main game (turn on controller, press start) and open the Mistpeak Valley door.

PS: I am not saying all these requirements have to be met, this is just what worked for me

FWIW, I opened the sunset door first for the 1million gold, then the traitors keep door, followed by the rest of them. Only did single player, MP used to screw achievements back in the day.

Completed main story and all demon doors there, then played the dlc and opened the traitors keep demon door after all quests had been done. Achievement popped with no issues.

I can’t believe they never patched this. I’ve gone back to this game after 12 years and I never played the DLC back in the day.

I blasted through the Traitors Keep quests and then unlocked the DD on Ravenscar which was my last one as I’d unlocked all the others when I played originally on my 360 and it didn’t pop.

Is there really no solution other than a new play through? I just don’t have the patience to do that 😅

okay so I made a grave mistake during my 100% run because i did NOT know about this glitch.... i had opened the sunset door early on in my run thru after becoming king while searching for the keys... then later on going for the co-op achievements, i joined my 2nd account to get the 1000 gold in another players world achievement. i then recently went to the mispeak to unlock it with my 2nd account and i noticed my counter ticked at 1/7 opened but being aware the sunset door was open.... i then opened another door to double check the counter and it went 2/7 when it should be 3/7.... is there seriously no other way to get this achievement to unlock now? Do i really need to do a whole nother play thru... or can i unlock all the doors again in coop on my 2nd account while my main is present? theres seriously no work around!?

This solution is only for the newest demon door.

You need to wear the Prisoner Suit to open the last Demon Door. Here are the locations. Best to follow after completing every quest.

All starting locations are in front of the Keep entrance facing away.

Prisoners Shackles

1. Stand in front of the entrance to the Keep.
2. Go to the right down some stairs.
3. Go left and get through the hole in the wall.
4. Go right and vault of the rocks to reach the chest

Prisoners Boots

1. Stand in front of the entrance to the Keep.
2. Go straight and down some stairs and hills.
3. You will see some gallows, and a piece of the fence behind the gallows is broken.
4. Walk over to it, and open the chest to get Prisoners Boots.

Prisoners Trousers

1. Beat Faraday, and accept the Undeath Sentence quest.
2. Beat the last group of hollow men.
3. You will see the chest with Prisoners Trousers inside next to you.

Prisoners Top

1. Complete the main quests.
2. Go to the Keep entrance and enter.
3. Go to 2nd door on the left.
4. Check the 2nd cell on the left for the chest.

Prisoners Bandana

1. Stand outside of the Keep.
2. Go to the right downhill.
3. There are some farms and rocks on the right.
4. Go to the rocks to find the wheelbarrow. The chest is behind it.

This is a helpful guide, I've been using it today.

Only, the description for both Bandana and Shackles state head "right" from the keep. I assume the description for Shackles should read left?

Also, you should think about wording it differently, like "While facing the keep, head ~direction~" this will avoid the confusion I felt when I got to the keep, read the description, and thought 'so which way is left, and which is right?"

All starting locations are in front of the Keep entrance facing away. Since there is no clear compass the author stated the direction (right or left) that you should be facing. The only one that differs is the Top which is located inside the Keep.

Most of these are relatively straightforward after completing the majority of the game, assuming you have decided to stick to the extremes for choices (pure good or evil, good food or fatty food, etc.)

***Ravenscar Keep Door:
It is important that this is not the last door you unlock, unless you already opened every door prior to downloading the DLC.
This achievement has been know to glitch for older save files

-->Wear every piece of the prisoner outfit in front of the door.

----->Prisoner Bandana: In a chest hidden in the small rock maze near the garden. To get to the garden, go down the left pathway when facing the bridge to the entrance of Ravenscar Keep.
----->Prisoner Top: In a chest located in the second cell on the left in the left wing of Ravenscar Keep (requires the quest Prison Management for Beginners to be in progress or complete).
----->Prisoner Shackles: In a chest which is accessed by vaulting off the rocks to the right of a hole in the wall of the garden area (the same hole which leads to the Demon Door).
----->Prisoner Trousers: In a chest at the end of the cemetery (requires the quest Undeath Sentence to be in progress or complete).
----->Prisoner Boots: In a chest behind the gallows over the fallen piece of fencing. To find the gallows, head in the opposite direction when facing the bridge to the entrance of Ravenscar Keep.

***Millfields Door:
-->1st, get as fat as possible. To do this quickly, go to any food/beverage store (Bowerstone Market, Bowerstone Old Quarter, Brightwood, Driftwood, City of Aurora, Mourningwood, Bowerstone Industrial/Understone) and buy everything the makes you gain weight (pies, mutton, fish, beer, wine, etc.), but hit X to eat it on the spot while buying, or eat during combat if time isn't a priority. While doing this myself, my weight bar was actually inverted for some reason, so just keep in mind that it needs to be on one of the extremes; if you've been eating fatty foods but your bar is green, this probably happened to you as well (it still works though).

-->2nd, become ugly. To do this, wear the pajamas of the opposite gender, the chicken gloves, and the mercenary tattoo set (all of which can be bought in Brightwood); the mohawk hairstyle also is considered ugly. Then, dye every piece of clothing a different color. You may not need all these to get it, but this is every option I have found the go as far as possible. Also keep in mind that you don't have to be on the extreme of the ugly bar, but just into the red.

***Mistpeak Valley Door:
-->Coop with another hero (can be done local with second controller, see below), and either propose marriage, or do all the available positive interactions (which requires at least one player have the required expression chests unlocked in the road to rule), in front of the door.

---->I did this one personally offline, with my primary profile having all the expressions unlocked in the Road to Rule, and the second account being literally brand new. All positive expressions were initiated by my primary profile until all of them were done, then I did the same with the fresh profile (which had different expressions as it didn't have the expressions unlocked).

***Brightwall Door:
-->You must conceive a child (or adopt), and perform a positive interaction with them in front of the door.

***Sunset House Door:
-->You must simply become King/Queen.

***City of Aurora Door:
-->You must have either 100% good or evil morality. Your choices throughout the game are the primary factors here, so taking the middle ground is a bad idea. Also, to accumulate this over time, adjust the rent and prices for all the properties you own (lower for good, higher for evil). Or, if you have a large quantity of gold, you can transfer that to the castle treasury in the achievements section of the sanctuary (or in the castle itself).

***Mourningwood Door:
-->You must have a level 5 ranged (gun) or melee skill, by upgrading on the Road to Rule.


### To speed up this process, you can typically highlight the Demon Door on the Sanctuary map and then hit fast travel to transport close to the doors, instead of running all the way from the entrances to those regions.

### If you completed the game without enough money to save everyone, and so you're missing merchants, let the game run for a few hours, and the people should return eventually

Thank you for the guide. It was very useful. The one thing I would like to point out is you can't do local co-op for the Mistpeak Valley door. I tried this with my boyfriend and we ended up having to do online co-op.

Not sure how to bring a kid to the door do I have to adopt one in that City or Have one in the city? lol

Anyways perfect guide just maybe you could put the locations of the doors had a hard time with Brightwall it was to the right couldn't even see it lol.

You can adopt one or have one in any location, then just take them by the hand, fast travel to Brightwall, and hug them in front of the door (or any positive expression I think).

This achievement glitched on me on my first playthrough. I had done all the demon doors and then the DLC, but it still glitched. So, I created a female character and played through again WITHOUT OPENING ANY DEMON DOORS. Once I had everything set up properly to open them all, I opened them in your order and the achievement finally popped!!! Thank you, and +1!!! :)

Thanks for the tip on the Mistpeak door. But, you should clarify on how to start a local co-op game for people like me who had to figure it out. wink
**Start your main hero, then fire up your second GT, and simply press start on the 2nd controller. Fast travel to Mistpeak, then just keep doing the nice expressions until the dd is happy. It took me shaking hands, dancing, hugging and pat-a-cake until it unlocked.

After severel attempts here is what i did to finaly unlocking it. I completet the whole game offline including the dlc. Then I open the dlc demon door as the first door. Then opened the mistpeak door with a localy guest profil. (I didt not hug, kiss or got married infront of it. Just did 3-5 perfekt good different gestures) after that i just open the rest random. My final was the one at sunset hous. When i didt that it poped. I then saved my game, restartet my xbox totaly by also pulling the cable out. Then I startet the game op again, went online for the first time, took a shower while the game was online and baam it was also Transferd to my online account. Good fucking Luck! Worst achievment ever.

Btw i play on xbox on. It glitch for me both when i did not open the dlc demon door as the first and when i joined someone Else World while the achievment was in progress. Last playtrough took me 7 hours and 13 minutes til i got it.

A little note to help those suffering from the glitch.

When you do the demon doors open the DLC demon door first. That way the counter for the achievement will register the demon doors starting from the problem door.

Plus if you do this then opening the others is easy as you will by then have a level 5 weapon, be a monarch and also reached 100% purity or evil to open the ones in mourning-wood, aurora city and sunset house.

For those experiencing glitches & have a secondary character...

I glitched on mary's books and demon doors -
1) i had no trouble with glitches until mary's books - i got one during battle and collected books with no achs - i loaded 2nd character & replayed collecting her books during inital run at mansion - ach unlocked
2) went back to primary character, finished Lt Huxley's quest, got prisoner clothes for keep demon door - opened & no ach
3) deleted DLC, & cleared cache - downloaded DLC & update again
4) loaded 2nd character (had millsfield & Tr. Keep demon doors to open), finished Traitors keep quests, & 1st 2 quests for the Lt at the Keep, once i got key for his 3d quest, got prison top and opened keep demon door (registered 6/7)
5) got fat and wore multi colored pjs (opposite gender) and unlocked door - registered 7/7 & ach unlocked - no further glitches

Cannot be sure if clearing DLC and cache really helped or not. Understand this is not a straight solution, only a possible fix if you have glitched - If you vote negative please comment as to why. hope this helps you if you are glitching

I'd like to add something what can help you with opening the Demon Doors. I've read a lot about opening DD and these are my ideas. For me, this method worked perfectly, but I can't be sure that the glitch doesn't appear for someone else.

Traitor's Keep downloaded before starting the game at all. Door opening order: Mistpeak Valley, Brightwall, Sunset House, Mouringwood, City of Aurora, Ravenscar, Millfields. The only DD, I've opened in multi was Mistpeak Valley. All others in single player. Traitor's Keep DLC played by myself at all. All DD except Mistpeak Valley opened in single run.
After opening every DD (before going in), I've waited a little bit to see the counter and I saw something strange one time. During opening Mouringwood DD (my 4th), I haven't seen a counter (potential glitch???), so I've quitted to dashbord without saving the game. I've started the game once again and then opened this door again. The counter appeared, so I've gone through it (autosave). That was the only problem with it.
My advices:
1: Open Mistpeak Valley DD first. Open all the next DD alone.
2: Play whole DLC alone. Activate (talk with) Ravenscar DD during DLC (without opening yet)
3: After opening any door, DO NOT enter it if you haven't seen the counter. Quickly dashboard the game (no save) and try again until proper counter appears.
4: Stay in shining area near door until it'll open.

Glitch info, seeing as no other solution on here has this correct:

The Demon Door counter will almost certainly glitch and reset if you play the Traitor's Keep DLC in co-op. I believe this also includes buying the DLC but not actually playing it - since simply buying the DLC brings up the "Set Them Free" counter on your game. Upon starting my game after buying the DLC I had a counter appear with 1/7, which quickly cycled through to 6/7 since I'd opened every main game door. From checking out other players' occurrences of the glitch I'm fairly certain playing co-op messes that counter up.

To stop this - either hold off buying the DLC whilst you do the co-op achievements, or leave the co-op achievements until you've opened every door. Naturally this makes the two-hero door (Mistpeak) hard work though - KKMP's solution says he opened this first which could be a workaround. I had opened that with a guest account on my console, but I hadn't downloaded the DLC before opening it either.

I had 6/6 doors unlocked before downloading the DLC - and although I did not complete it in one sitting, I did not play any co-op between purchasing the DLC and opening the final Demon Door. Achievement popped up no problem.

****PLEASE READ IF THIS ACHIEVEMENT IS GLITCHED FOR YOU****
After playing this game through 3 times and being about 30 seconds away from ripping the game out of my xbox smashing it, placing it into a small plastic bag, taking a Taco Bell shit in said plastic bag and mailing it to Lionhead studios I've figured out how to get around the glitch. The glitch is triggered by a co-op player joining your game and resetting the counter.

1. Make sure you have everything you need to open all of the demon doors before you start to open them. i.e. prison outfit, being fat, funky outfit, and 100% good or evil.
2. Set up a dummy account to use as a second player.
3. When opening a door if you don't see the counter pop up quit to the dashboard and reload. Do not change zones, enter the demon door or do anything that would trigger an autosave!
4. You need to do the Mistypeak door first!!! Go to the demon door plug in a second controller and start up your dummy account. Start doing the expressions to make the door unlock. The next part is the most important and you need to make sure you do it quickly otherwise it will not count the door. As soon as the door says "Thank you hero or should i say heroes" press start on the second controller and have your dummy account leave the game. If you dont do this fast enough it will not count.
5. Unlock the traitors keep door next and after that you can unlock the rest in any order.
6. Do not have a co-op player join you at any point after Mistypeak.

Like i said earlier if the counter does not come up you need to exit to the dashboard. I had to do that once on the Summerset door but once i reloaded the game it worked fine. Even though i was not able to do it in one go without having to load i would try to do so and not take any chances.
If you go through and follow the instructions it should pop and if it doesn't follow my instructions on mailing a present to Lionhead.
