How to unlock the Tragical-Comical-Historical achievement in Fable III - Definitive Guide

I think I'd put a "SPOILERS" tag here, but if you're looking for a solution to this, you'd probably be already playing up to this part of the game... anyway, here goes!

One of your main quests is to gain the support of the dwellers. During this quest, the dwellers would request three conditions before they follow you. You'll get the chance to get this achievement during the third condition.

The third condition requires you to bring food to the dwellers. Upon completing the first two conditions, you'd meet this man called Samuel, who's the librarian at the town of Brightwall. To convince him to donate food to the dwellers, you must prove your worth to him by amassing an additional 30 Guild Seals, on top of what you already have.

New quests should now appear, each offering various numbers of Guild Seals. You'd need to look for this quest called "Lost Play", which should be found at the north of the Brightwall map. Go to the spot to find Lambert and Pinch, talk to them, and accept their quest to find a lost play that blends "tragedy and comedy".

Go into the library nearby, and follow the golden trail to a book. Examine it, and you'll be drawn into an alternate world inside the book. You'd now need to convince the playwright's (Phillip Morley?) ghost who drawn you into the book by acting out three scenes in his works.

Before doing all these scenes, you'd need to wear the appropriate costumes, which are conveniently found near you.

(Sidenote: These costumes will add to your progress for the "Fashion Victim" achievement, which requires you to collect every clothing item.)

For the first scene, press "A" to declare your love to pass.

For the second scene, press "A" to tickle the king to pass.

For the third scene, it's a bit tricky. You'd need to fight some mercenaries. According to the ghost, you'd need to either die or defeat all the foes. Since there's an achievement for not being knocked out at all en route to completing this game, I'd suggest you kill all the enemies. Upon passing this third scene, the playwright would then offer the lost play.

Back to Lambert and Pinch, give them the play, and they would act it out. Upon completing the show, the achievement would unlock. You'd also get 20 Guild Seals for your effort.

You can pass if you kill all the enemies. The objective says "Die or defeat all enemies to pass." I was afraid I would fail the "Don't Get Knocked Down" achievement, so I killed them and I passed the quest. Nice guide, although just FYI, Samuel isn't the mayor, he is the librarian at the Brightwall Academy.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll update accordingly.

Someone also confirmed that even if you lose the fight, it'd not affect the "don't get knocked down" achievement too on x360a.org.

Also, just to clarify, if you let yourself 'die' to the ghosts in this play it doesn't count as having been knocked down. I was concerned about that too, but wanted to match the description of events as told in the play and when I looked afterward my stats still say 0 for the knocked down count. Therefore you can safely follow the instructions of the play without it affecting the other achievement.

Thank you Omagnus. I was letting them kill me, when I suddenly remembered the achievement for not getting knocked down was at stake here. I snapped up, jumped on the computer, read your comment, and stopped sweating(I wasn't really sweating over an achievement, to those who believed my last statement).

I did the opposite for each of the challenges in the quest - I declared hatred for the first guy, then declared love for the king and then killed everyone at the end. I still got the achievement - so I think that its for simply completing the quest rather than by doing the 'correct' thing!

Confirmation from 2023: you can make whatever decision you want in the play and the achievement will unlock at the end.

the guide made by Optimus Neeker is great I'm just going to add a bug I found while doing this quest:

some of you may have noticed that you cant attack during the last part of this quest, kinda sucky since you need to kill/be killed by the mercenaries. they all just hang out by the trees out of reach. this happened in my game but my friend had no issue.

simply connect a second controller to your xbox, press start with player 2 and proceed to kill/die and voilà! quest done, now just press start with controller 2 and select leave.

hand in the quest and the chev is yours, hope this helps!
