How to unlock the Kaboom! achievement in Fable III - Definitive Guide

After doing the main quest in Mourningwood Fort, it becomes available to buy. It will be around 40,000 Gold (prices vary in each game by a small amount). Buy the Fort, and go back to where you used the mortar during the quest. Press and hold A on the mortar to start the game.

You have to hit 2000 points in one game for the achievement. This may take several tries but it is not very hard.

Here are some tips:
-Listen to Jammy. He will tell you where the enemies are spawning.
-Hitting them as soon as they spawn is what you want because they will spread out pretty quick.
-Aim for large groups. The more you hit, the less time you waste.
-Do not go too far out of your way to hit one or two hollow men. You can hit one on your way to a large group, but only if it does not waste too much time.

-This can be done in co-op as well. It will combine both players scores and may make things easier to unlock the achievement if you are having trouble.

NOTE: Some people have said they hit 2000 exactly and the achievement did not pop. I got it when 2010 was my score. If the achievement continues to not unlock, you may need to beat your highest score if you got 2000+ and it did not unlock.

You should probably note that this can be done in co-op. It's the combined score that counts too so each person only needs to watch the left or the right and by the end you should both have a little over 1000 pts and both will get the achievement.

Looks like trying a second time on the same character if it doesn't unlock the first time still won't allow you to unlock it. Just tried it myself.

Ok, take that back. Just did it a third time and went all out. Apparently the cheev unlocks as soon as you tie/beat the top score. When I reached my top score of 2020, the cheev unlocked. This was still in the middle of the minigame. I went to gain another 200 points before time ran out after the cheev unlocked.

Basically, this means the first time you reach 2000, try not to pass it by much in case it doesn't unlock the first time.

1 hollow man is worth 10, 6 is worth 60.. it just makes it easier to hit more in one shot, seem to spawn as waves, as wave 2 wouldn't spawn til I killed the last one of the intial 5

just got it, reached 2000 with 10 seconds to go, took 5 sec to blip - I was killing each wave off asap, getting 1000 in the first 90, then clearing out each side before going to the other, where hopefully they had a horde going on. made the difference for me (1700 normally, 2100 this time)

I got this my 2nd try. All I did was listen to what Jammy was saying, but after a while I just spammed 'A' and concentrated on the large groups. 2nd attempt I got 2070 and the achievement.

Good guide. Note also there is a second or two delay after time 'running out' and the game ending. I was bang on 2000 when time supposedly ran out but managed to get another shot off which took me to 2030 and the achievement.

Heh heh. Mourningwood.

Yeah, I just got 2000 Points to the number and it didn't unlock. Shame, since I'm quite terrible at this minigame. Have to keep at it though...

If I had someone else to play with (or the ability to, I don't have Gold) I would...afraid I only have the free account at the moment.

Anyways, I think I've found the issue. When I got 2000 points earlier, I got it literally a split second before the timer hit 0. Just now I got 2020 points a split second before the timer hit zero. I'm thinking the cut-off point for the Achievement is before the actual timer is hitting zero. Hopefully someone can back me up on this, as it would explain it.

Just got it, first time over 2000 I only got 2010 and it didn't pop. Second time it popped with about 10 seconds to go and I had 2070 when it popped.

Well I am impressed that all of you seem to find this so easy but I think its down right ridiculous. The enemies absolutely do not spawn quick enough and honestly Jammy's comments as you insist are so helpful frankly suck. He's only right half the time or he's late telling you. This cheevo is complete BS. I will get it with more practice, doesn't make it any less stupid.

Did not get it with scores of 2000, 2020, 2000, and 2020 again. All four of those games I had less than 2000 with 1 second left. I finally got 2090, hit 2000 with 8 seconds left, and when I got to 2030 with 6 seconds left the achievement unlocked.

Just got this on third try (~1700,~1850, 2160). I cleared 2k and got the achievement with 20 seconds left (achievement pops during the mission as soon as you pass high score).

The secret to me seems like early on to quickly and completely destroy the enemy groups which i believe ultimately makes more enemies spawn. After the first few groups what you want to do is scan the spawn points and focus on following the above advice as far as aiming for spawning enemies and groups (you can ignore jammy at this point). Everytime you see blue, drop a mortar shot on it. Additionally, be planning a your next shot as you drop one shot and move immediately after you push the buttons. The slow motion death animation which triggers sometimes i believe screws you up - your cursor stays active and i think time is still running during this. You want to use this time to start moving your cursor towards the next target to avoid waste.

Another hint: turn on subtitles! They appear slightly before the audio, so u will have an advantage then. Also, when theres a group of 4 or more skellies near your cursor, dont ignore them because the npc says they spawn on the left or whatever, kill em first and then move to the other side..

After reading comments here and failing many times I think it's also important to know that the more you kill in groups the more spawn. So basically if you miss too many clusters they split up, no extra respawn (or much less) which makes it impossible to get past the 2000 mark.

I hit 2010 and no achievement, the exact requisite is "score one more time once you have 2000 points or more"

Just a few more hints that can maybe help you:

- First strike always on left
- Wait to ear where the 2nd group will spawn (often on left)
- Try to kill groups, easier if their not moving yet
- After the 3rd wave, continue in circle
- Always look at the spawning point

Don't forget: if you'll beat 2000+ on solo game you'll get a legendary weapon, in combo, you'll not.

(the video below helped me - not mine)

It took me about five attempts to get this (I got 2,000 on my third attempt but it didn't unlock. I did it eventually with 2,040) and I would say that staying active in moving across the field is most important.

After my first couple of attempts I began to ignore Jammy after the first 30 seconds as Hollow Men are spawning pretty much everywhere. Just sweep the map in a circular manner and try to keep moving, only pausing to blow up groups of three of more.

Obviously if you see a group spawning over an area you've just been over, go back, but then keep on circling. Speed is the key!

Ended with a score of 2010... no unlock. Next round was 1940, then 1950-- fourth round was 2170 and it popped.

My only additional advice would be to prioritise shooting a group as it spawns. You should essentially be scrolling the whole time, pausing only to shoot a round at the blue pillars of light that indicate spawning Hollowmen. Aim a shot into the centre of the cluster while they are still blue light and move on in your rotation without hesitating. This will allow you to place your fire down quickly enough to stay ahead of the skeletons.

Yeah so after a dozen tries of what seemed like me never missing a group and having a best score of 1940, I played with a co-op and unlocked it on the first try with a combined score of 2720. I'm pretty sure this achievement was designed to be won by a single player, but the best possible one-man score cant be much more than 2050-2100

I got this achievement after about 8 tries solo and noticed that spawning is somewhat random. In some attempts you get more groups respawning. Because of this, even if I was doing basically in the same manner, my scores varied from 1700 to 2000. I also tried to kill off an entire group. If you miss one or two, kill them as well before moving on. It may help accelerate respawning (not confirmed). During final seconds (20 or so), hollow men spawn everywhere and you should be able to nail a few large groups (very crucial).
Just keep trying and you will get it eventually. My first attempt was 1400 :)

The achievement description is a lie!
It isn’t enough to get 2,000 points, you must BEAT 2,000 points. This means at least 2,010.

littlejay x360a points this out in his final paragraph, but I believe when an achievement’s description is misleading, it deserves to be shouted loud and clear. Another caveat is, you must attain 2,010 with an unknown amount of time (1-3 seconds?) remaining on the clock -- people have reported that the achievement will not pop if you hit 2,010 within the final second.

As others have pointed out, the achievement is more easily obtained in co-op, where scores are combined. But if you want the Legendary Weapon reward, you must score 2,000 solo. 2,000 points on the nose is enough to get you the weapon, but not enough for the achievement. I know because I did exactly that: I hit 2,000 within the final second, got the legendary weapon but did not get the achievement.

Something to keep in mind when going for the achievement and/or legendary weapon: Two other legendary weapons have upgrades that are tied to the mortar game. If you own these weapons, have one of them equipped when you play the mortar game. 2,000 points on the nose is enough to unlock their upgrades. They are the Swift Irregular (rifle) and Simmon’s Shotgun.

Good luck!

I got this achievement while playing it in co-op and it seemed to give me more time in co-op mode than it did in single player mode as I got over 2,000 points by myself in the co-op and in the single player I'm lucky to score 1,630. thre person I played the co-op with scored less than 1,000 and she got the acheivement as well.
