Ryme is one of the followers who will just show up at your camp. For these events to occur make sure you are leaving and returning to your refuge regularly.
When you return to the refuge the game may prompt you that there is a stranger in the camp and to go talk to them. All of your followers will be grouped up near the newcomer. Go up to the new character and hold A.
A conversation will follow, I always responded as friendly as possible, not sure if that matters. At the end of the conversation you can either reject the follower or accept them. Accept them to get the achievement.

Note for those who choose to play this game in coop. The person that joins the host of the game will not get the achievement for the follower joining on to the camp if they wander up at a random time to the refuge. I figured it was going to be self explanatory in time but just had to put it out there and make sure in case anyone wondered.
