*POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO VAULT 101 NOT OPENING AND NOT RECEIVING THE QUEST*

Alright for everyone who is having trouble getting back into vault 101 because the radio signal is not in the audio log anymore, i will try to explain how i did it as best i can, but i doubt this is full proof (Please post a comment if this works for you.)

I was out the front of Tenpenny Tower just after saving my game, and i went through all my audio logs that i haven't read, there was about five or six. Just to get rid of them i decided to click on them all so they weren't high-lighted anymore, because i did that their was a audio message playing when i decided to travel back to Vault 101 just to check if its open (It wasn't open all the other times i checked but i thought what the hell.)

And surprise, surprise its still glitched, So i got pissed off and started spamming the A button on the control panel next to the door and the door itself, then i would press the select button wait about 4 hours spam the control panel and door again then spam the radio signals "Vault 101 emergency frequency" and "Vault 101 PA system"

It did nothing the first 2-3 times so i kept pressing select and waiting 4 hours then spamming the control panel/door/radio signals. And all of a sudden i could listen to the Vault 101 emergency frequency signal again. Then I played the log and i got the quest the door opened after that.

I don't know if this will work for anyone else but i hope so, Tell me if it dose work for you please.

If you find this solution to be unhelpful, please tell me why in a comment and I will update it the next time I'm online.

I only have the Vault 101 PA system...wtf do I have to do I don't get it. I freaking hate it that most of these guides are incapable for this game without saying stuff is missable...hopefully you can help me more since I don't want to start a third playthrough (fourth tbh cause of a corrupt save file)

hmm I have the Vault 101 PA System but not Vault 101 Emergency Frequency. I can listen to the PA system fine, but I hear nothing. I'll trying going to Megaton and see what happens...

Also I'm at end game with all other quests done minus Broken Steel DLC and some random Point Lookout Quests.

Well, going to Megaton and back again, and doing what is suggested isnt doing anything unfortunately. I'm going to finish Broken Steel and I'll report back!

Can confirm this worked after using Crimson Drifter's suggestion of going to the pit and back.
Thumbs up!

Confirmed for me too. Only had the PA system. Went to the pit (previously 100% completed) and upon returning to the wasteland the Emergency Signal showed up and I was able to do the Trouble on the Homefront quest and get the achievement.

NB: To actually start this quest, before the final mission ('Take it Back' is shown as the quest), go to Vault 101 instead. Then press B and on the DATA page select Radio, then select Vault 101 Emergency Frequency.
Hope this helps!

In order to hear the radio emergency frequency you have to complete the water of life first . To start the quest trouble on the home front.

UPDATE: So this is what happened for me.

After doing above, nothing worked. I then read somewhere to go to The Pitt, then return. I did just that and upon my return the Vault 101 Emergency Signal finally showed up in the list. I fast traveled to Vault 101 (VERY LONG loading time) I turned on the frequency and after it finished the quest popped, now just to finish it!

So if anyone is still having trouble getting it to work, trying going to The Pitt, then returning.

You can get to The Pitt through Train Tunnels, in the northwest of the map.

After you complete the mission where you reach the Brotherhood of Steel for the first time, when you reach Megaton you will get a distress signal, informing you to return to Vault 101, do so and complete the mission in whatever way you wish.

I did this after i played the main story line. At that point you should already find the help-call in your radio. Listen to it and then travel to Vault 101. Finish the quest however you like.

Note: If you want to do all achievements, including the bobbleheads, this will be the last chance to get the bobblehead from the medicine station in Vault 101.
So take it after the conversation with Amata.

This achievement is missable but you can restore it only once for a new attempt! Unless you already played the Pitt.

If you were like me and wanted to do a few sidequests during the main story line or finish the main story line real quick. The distress call won't be in your Radio log anymore.It also bounds to happen if you play Operation Anchorage or Point Lookout before the mission Waters of Life. Anyway let's get to the point;

There is a way to get it back after you've done but you only have one chance to do it. Play the DLC; The Pitt get all the achievements of the Pitt and make sure you find all Steel Ignots before you finish up the quests of the Pitt. After you've finished it up and leave the Pitt you get a message that you have a new Emergency/Distress Call. Fast Travel right away to Megatown and listen to it and the Quest will begin.

If you don't do it right away you'll lose the only oppurtunity to do the quest (and recollect the bobblehead if you missed it), which forces you to start a new playthrough for 2 achievements.

Hope this helps if you have any questsions just comment me.

Good luck!

F.A.Q.

Q: If I don't have The Pitt installed/downloaded yet is it still possible to receive the distress call again?
A: Yes it's still possible to get the distress call again but make sure you do it right away after you finished The Pitt when you installed/downloaded it.

I had researched several guides and forum posts on this quest "disappearing" after a certain amount of time which it had in my game. I tried everything but the quest would not trigger.

After completing the last main game quest "Take It Back," I fast traveled to the Trainyard location where you go into The Pitt DLC. Once The Pitt location loaded, I went back into the Capital Wasteland and fast traveled to Vault 101.

The emergency signal from Amata with the password to open the vault became available and allowed me to complete the quest.

I haven't confirmed that you have to go through the main story questline and then to The Pitt to trigger the signal again but it seemed to me going to The Pitt reloaded the Capital Wasteland map and made the quest work again.

This does confirm that the quest isn't lost forever and by traveling to the Trainyard and going through to The Pitt DLC and back to the Capital Wasteland should allow the signal to be re-established.

GLITCHED

The Vault 101 Emergency Frequency radio signal will appear sometime after finishing the Waters of Life Quest by walking anywhere near Vault 101, even hanging around the Megaton area will allow you to receive it.

It is possible to glitch yourself out of this trophy by installing the The Pitt DLC if you're not careful, credit to Just2Dirty for this info on how to fix it:

It's worth mentioning but the Trouble on the Homefront Quest can bug out with the Pitt DLC.

If standing next to Vault 101 doesn't display the Vault 101 Emergency Broadcast in the Radio Signals menu, then exit the Capital Wasteland by travelling back to The Pitt via the Train (furthest Northwest in the Wasteland) then coming back to Vault 101, this will re-sync your Radio Signals and you will find it at the bottom of the list.

If you have the vanilla release then simply don't install The Pitt until after getting this trophy but if you have the GOTY Edition then one possible workaround is to buy the vanilla release, uninstall the GOTY Edition then start a new game with no DLC installed and get the trophy that way. You have to start a new game else you'll corrupt your saves by trying to play without the DLCs installed.

There are other nasty bugs in the is Quest as well so see here for more details before proceeding: LINK (credit to the Fallout Wiki for this link).

Note: If for some reason you chose to kill the Overseer before leaving Vault 101 to follow your Father at the start of the game, this will not negate the trophy because a new Overseer will take his place (credit to Droooogie for this info).

When you start this Quest, go with the good ending as it's by far the easiest to do. Once you enter Vault 101 you need to find Amata and ask her what is going on. She will explain that after you and your Father left, the Vault descended into Chaos and split into two factions with one being lead by the Overseer whilst the other is lead by Amata.

To get the full happy ending for this Quest and plenty of Good Karma, you need to persuade the Overseer to stand-down by either by: Convincing him that the Vault is doomed and won't survive much longer or you can hack the terminal in the Security Office and get evidence that the Security Forces are planning an unauthorised assault against Amata and her followers.

It is also possible, If your Speech Skill is high enough, to go straight to the Overseer's Office and persuade him to open the Vault to the outside world and surrender his position to Amata. By doing this you can avoid having to do the rest of the objectives you would have had to do and still get the best possible reward.

How ever you get the Overseer to stand down, speak to Amata to claim your reward and the trophy will pop once the door to Vault 101 starts to close on your way out.

This quest will not be available until after completing The Waters of Life. Once you have done that, return to Vault 101 (where you grew up) and tune in to the radio frequency on your PipBoy. You will find a distress signal from Amata. Head into the vault. From here you have a large variety of ways to finish the quest. I chose to simply convince her to stay in the vault. see the link below for all the options.

See Trouble on the Homefront for more specific info.

Note: This is your last chance to grab the bobblehead on your father's desk.

Caution: This may become unavailable if you load up DLC before completing it.

This quest will become available after you complete the Living Water quest. Go to Vault 101, near the shelter you will receive a radio signal sent by Amata. Go to the shelter to complete the task. Upon completion of the quest you will receive an achievement.
Attention: This is the second and last opportunity to pick up the bobblehead from your father's table if you did not do so at the beginning of the game.

To get the achievement, you need to go to shelter 101, turn on the radio and hear a distress signal on the radio, a friend from 101 who helped you escape will give you the password for the door, you will go in and talk to her, etc. then kill the caretaker, and everyone go to the amata and tell her... After you get out, the entrance to the shelter will be closed to you forever!
