Reached Level 30 with Good Karma

How to unlock the Messiah achievement in Fallout 3 - Definitive Guide

The Karma achievements are made significantly easier with the addition of the Broken Steel perks.

The first step in getting all three achievements is to create three save files at level 28. The closer you are to reaching 29, the better, but at any point will work fine.

Getting to level 30, not the karma, is actually the hardest part of these achievements. If you are like me, and reached level 20 long before the game ended and before you got Broken Steel, you have a long way to go after the added quest ends. The first things I would do is the side-quests that are offered surrounding Project Purity. Return to the Jefferson Memorial and offer to help Scribe Bigsley, who is inside the building. That will result in two decent quests. There is also a side-quest that can be accessed by hacking or a successful speech on Bigsley or by talking to the ghoul Griffon in the Museum of History.

Once those quests have been competed, you will probably still have a long way to go. The fastest way to make up that experience is by hunting Super Mutants. After finishing the Broken Steel quest-line, speak to Paladin Tristran and ask if there is anything else you can do to help. He will offer you a reward for killing super mutants and bringing back blood samples to him. This is much easier than scouring ruined buildings for scrap metal, pre-war books, cameras or sensor modules. The National Mall and the Germantown Police station are great places to hunt mutants. Just make sure to get the well-rested bonus before you trade in the samples. 10% extra experience goes a long way in this grind.

You can also increase the difficulty to get more experience per encounter. This is really a must if you are playing on easy or normal. The extra 15 or so EXP an encounter will really speed things up in the long run. Also remember to leave your companions at home. They are experience hogs. You won't receive any EXP from enemies that they kill.

Once you've gotten there, load up one of those files and, when you reach level 29, choose Here and Now. This perk will immediately level you up again, to 30. At level 30 choose Escalator to Heaven. This will set your karma to Very Good and you will get the achievement.

Rinse and repeat for the other karma achievements. I recommend that you don't use this method for whatever karma type you mainly play as, as it really is a waste of 2 perks.

Cheers!

Yes indeed.

The 10XP you gain from trading in the blood samples to Tristran is in addition to the exp you gain when you actually kill the mutant.

Another tip (from hindsight!) would be if you have any companions then leave them behind. I completed the main missions of this DLC with Fawkes helping me. Unfortunately this meant that s/he got most of the XP from kills instead of me, making the grind all the way up to level 30 a lot further.

Your right, I had him help me hunt Super Mutants for about an hours before I realized he was stealing all my XP. I'm going to add the tip to the solution.

In addition to what is stated before, I found it easier to save right after you've chosen the 'here and now' perk at level 29 but before you actually level-up to level 30 and then reload that save to get all the achievements

say i have a good character and i level him up to level 29, save, and do the trick youve mentioned with the perks thus changing my character to neutral and bad...i know ill get the achievements for getting to level 30 with neutral/bad karma, but will i also get the 20-14-8 ones as well...like are they stacked???

They do not stack. The achievement triggers when you reach the specified level with the specified karma. It kinda sucks, but you might have to play through again to get the early ones.

Yes, I don't see why not. It just takes a LOT more kills to do so.

If you ever get bored and theres nothing to do but hunt for Exp you could always complete the Dlcs again (Except Broken Steel) Once you complete them the first time you can delete them, load up a game you'll find that the location are not there anymore. install the Dlcs again and you'll get the radio signals again. therefore you can complete them again :)

As far as grinding, if you don't have a strong inclination to other perks (and have an Intelligence of 4 or more) you can use Swift Learner to add 10% XP whenever XP is earned. There are three levels, thus XP earned can be increased by 30%.

Does anyone know if using the perks that reset your Karma to good/evil/neutral works instead of manually doing good/bad things?

Update to my last comment: it does. So make a save right before you’re about to level up and use those perks.

An easy way to get to neutral karma from good karma is to detonate the bomb in the Power of the Atom quest. If you have maximum good karma it will instantly take you down to neutral.

An extra note for the Super Mutant Blood Samples: if you start that quest before you start Reilly's Rangers, then all the dead Super Mutants in the Hospital and the Hotel will have blood samples on them. You should get around 70 blood samples if you do this, and almost twice as much exp as actually completing Reilly's Rangers!

As far as GRINDING, you might want to download Point Lookout. There's a quest called Plik's Safari where you must fight in an arena of ghouls. You can repeat the arena (not the quest) every 48 hours or so. For the grind, make sure you read Plik's journal to get the Ghoul Ecology perk (extra damage against ghouls). Then, set the difficulty to Very Hard, bring powerful Weapons (Terrible Shotgun, Backwater Rifle, and Repeater work well, as do mines), and lots of chems (Stimpaks for health, Jet for AP).

If you want an easy way to rank up to 30 without glitching and you have Point Lookout, go to the Coastal Grotto and compete in the arena over and over again on Very Hard difficulty. Just make sure you have a lot of caps and weapons in good condition. Also, kill the other two guys that are competing and every time you are done with the arena, just wait for 24 hours then talk to Plik again.

** MINOR SPOILERS BELOW. **

To get this achievement, you need to reach level 30 with positive karma. (Either have positive karma when reaching level 30, or reach level 30 and select the Escalator to Heaven perk.)

Getting to level 30

Straightforward enough, but there are ways to achieve this more quickly. First, avoid companions.

Second, look out for the NPCs who request certain types of items, and then watch to see if redeeming those items provides XP. Two such "standing orders":

* Scrap metal in Megaton. (Easy to find everywhere.)
* Pre-war books at the Arlington Library. (Excellent per-book XP.)

Credit to Mobius Evalon:
* Holotags in the Citadel.
* Cameras and sensors in the Broken Steel DLC. (I didn't even know of this side quest!)

Lastly, I recommend hacking every terminal, picking every lock, and attempting (almost) every speech challenge. All provide nearly guaranteed XP, without the hassle of shooting an Albino Radscorpion or Super Mutant Overlord a half-million times.

Karma

To maximize good karma, always focus on being kind, charitable, avoid killing innocents, and go out of your way to help innocents. (Kill raiders and muties, free/protect wastelanders, etc.)

If you need a karma boost, I have two suggestions:

* At the Church of the Atom (Megaton) or Saint Monica's Church (Rivet City), donate caps. If you have a lot of cash lying around, it will be very easy and quick to get into "positive" karma.
* In Megaton, give away your scrap metal rather than requesting payment. (You still get the XP.)

A relatively quick way to level up is to go to Fairfax Ruins, kill all the raiders, throw them in the fall trap (Grab and drag using cn_RS next to the entrance to the tunnels.

Leave the area for 72 hours, come back with the difficulty on Very hard and throw grenades into the trap.

All of the guides you will see are really good ways to level up quickly etc.

For those of us who aren't looking for advice on how to level up and just looking for a quick way to make all three of the LVL 30 Achievements pop, do the following:

- Make a save right before you are about to hit LVL 30.
- Once you hit is and are able to distribute skill points and perks choose the Neutral Karma perk (Escalator to Heaven)
- After you choose this it will make you Neutral Karma and POP.
- Reload your save and do the same with the other 2 Karmas you need.

This is super easy to cover all three without taking time to mess about at this stage of the game.

Happy Hunting

Reach Level 30 with Good or better Karma, the trophy will pop on the Levelling up screen where you raise your stats. The fastest ways to get these 3 Karma trophies are:

Method 1:

  1. Make a save at Level 27, a few hundred XP before you hit Level 28.
  2. Level up and take either the Devil's Highway, Escalator to Heaven or Karmic Rebalance Perk (depending on which Karma Level you're aiming for and what you're already at).
  3. Level up again to Level 29, take the Here and Now Perk, get the trophy then reload your save, rinse and repeat.

Method 2:

  1. Make a save when you are a few XP away from hitting Level 30.
  2. Level up and take either the Devil's Highway, Escalator to Heaven or Karmic Rebalance Perk (depending on which Karma Level you're aiming for and what you're already at).
  3. Reload your save, Level up again and take whichever Karma Perk you didn't take last time, get the trophy then reload one last time and take the final Karma Perk. If you are already at that Karma Level though, you can just take another Perk of your choosing.

Method 3:

  1. Use the Scrap Metal glitch until you're a few XP off hitting Level 24 (Fort Independence is a known hotspot for freezing so save before going there):

(Credit to The Infinitiv3 for the video).
  2. Now save, Level up then take either the Devil's Highway, Escalator to Heaven or Karmic Rebalance Perk (depending on which Karma Level you're aiming for and what you're already at).
  3. After taking 1 of the Karma Perks, carry on Levelling up until you hit Level 30 and get the respective Karma trophy.
  4. Reload your Rank 23 save and repeat Steps 2+3 until you have the other 2 Karma trophies.

Method 4: (courtesy of EEHHHHHH)

  1. Save when you're just a few XP off hitting Level 28.
  2. Next, Level up to Level 28 and take the Here and Now Perk so you hit Level 29 then choose any Perk you want then save your game.
  3. Now Level up until you're just a few off hitting Level 30 then save again.
  4. Level up then take either the Devil's Highway, Escalator to Heaven or Karmic Rebalance Perk (depending on which Karma Level you're aiming for and what you're already at).
  5. Reload your Level 29 save then repeat step 4 until you have all 3 Karma trophies.

Method 5:

  1. Save when you're just a few XP off hitting Level 29.
  2. Now Level up to Level 29 and take the Here and Now Perk so you hit Level 30 then take either the Devil's Highway, Escalator to Heaven or Karmic Rebalance Perk (depending on which Karma Level you're aiming for and what you're already at).
  3. Reload your Level 29 save then repeat step 2 until you have all 3 Karma trophies.

The Messiah trophy is another one that takes its time before popping so don't worry if it takes a short while to appear.

Notes:

When the trophy tiles for the True Mortal and Messiah trophies were being added, Bethesda accidentally switched them so when you unlock True Mortal, you get the Trophy tile but not the actual trophy for Messiah instead and vice versa. There is another purely cosmetic glitch that affects the Karma/Level trophies: When you reach Level 30 your XP gauge will state your next Level is 31, which is not possible since 30 is the maximum you can reach. Also, your Karma "rank" will not update correctly in your Pip-Boy or on your save file after Level 20, though Three Dog will give the correct one when he talks about you on the Radio.
