How to unlock the Cleansing The Land achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

Warning! This achievement is missable if you have not initiated the "Cleansing the Land" quest line. Continue reading for more info on that.

This achievement can actually unlock without doing the devious deeds involved in this quest line. I simply did the quest for "The Way Life Should Be" and then the following quest "Reformation," and this unlocked with it. I never talked to anyone about the bombs, so I think if you just leave the quest open it will complete and unlock with the completion of the other story line. So you can get all three quest-related achievements in one run without backtracking or loading up a previous save.

Just to clarify, you have to have this quest initiated for the achievement to unlock after completing "Reformation."

As a side note, make sure you have actually triggered the start of Cleansing the Land by going to the hotel or the turbine before finishing Reformation.

@xBrushedRedx - Don't feel so bad, any solution that allows you to get an achievement without doing much work is going to be the more popular one. ;)

Totally worked for me. And thank goodness, because I wouldn't want to do those deeds.

Thanks for this. As stated above, I also hate having to be an arsehole for gamerscore.

The Cleansing the Land quest never became an active quest in my Pipboy... I think this achievement is missable and should be marked as such. Make that last sentence the first sentence of the solution...

Worked perfectly. As soon as the Reformation quest finished, the achievement for Cleansing The Land popped.

All you need to do to get Cleansing the Land to start is to enter the hotel where the nuclear launch code is (there will be a marker). After you walk in the door, it pops up. Then, just walk back out (don't even grab it). It'll auto complete after you finish Reformation and pop the achievement.

I made Dima turn himself in to face justice, and the Reformation quest would not start. The Children of Atom attack me on site (must be something I did in the base game) so I didn’t mind nuking them, and taking their armour which is the best in the game. As explained in the game ending - it was you or them.

Sure enough, this does happen.

Might wanna put into the solution that the easiest way to get the Reformation quest is to confront DiMA about the murder and then keep his secret.

I do not want to spoil anything here but in order to start this mission, you must complete the "Best Left Forgotten" quest far enough to where it gives you the option to uncover the location of the nuclear launch key. This objective will pop up after completing some of the memory hacks (I really suggest doing all 5 back-to-back). Once it gives you the objective, head into the hotel where the key is located, and the "Cleansing the Land" quest will trigger. Follow it until the end and you get the achievement.

This achievement is definitely missable. I did the exact same thing that Sedgendary did, but my achievement didn't auto complete. I even finished the rest of the main storyline just in case and this one never unlocked.

Instead, I reloaded an old save after the "hacking" part with DiMA's memories and made sure to go explore the nuclear launch key.

I followed to the end of the quest and nuked the Nucleus. Achievement Unlocked.

Well I posted this from the way I got it on the day this DLC launched.. I was also the first solution on here so I had nothing else to go by. If there are more ways to get this achievement, then so be it, but I posted the way I got it because I know it works and it is simple, but yes I do recommend lots of different saves, but that's kinda a given with any fallout game.

Actually, you dont need the nuke launch key at all. I just got the achievement without finding the nuke key which means I didnt nuke anybody,

I missed this my first time thru so I came here to TA and read all the solutions. I think they all need to be updated. The save that I used has the confessor convinced to leave the island already for dealing with confessor on reformation mission. The other mission had 2 things left to do, 1) find the nuke key and 2) find the wind turbine code. Since my save had me about to cross the water to get the wind turbine code, I decided to grab that before the nuke key. I grabbed it and the 'cleansing of the land' mission popped up which made me think that I might have options here. So since I did not get the nuke key, that wasnt an option for cleansing but talking to dima and using code on wind turbines were my 2 options. I chose to fast travel to arcadia to talk to dima BUT then I thought what if I just make a save and go use the wind turbine code so I did. The achievement popped after I looked into the 3rd terminal and chose to use the new code. NOTE: It also failed my reformation mission but I didnt care since I was here to get my cheevo and then go back to my other save in the game that has me current.

So It looks like there are a few ways of completing this achievement and I wanted others to know so they dont spend a bunch of time doing everything. Yes there are some armor rewards if you do everything but I dont need them and it only took me 5-10 minutes to redo this to get my last cheevo as long as you have some saves that you can reuse.

This guide is for using console commands to quickly complete the DLC quest. You must own the DLC, this will not work if you don't.

Press the tilde key (the button to the left of your 1 key on your keyboard) to open the console command parser.

Type: setstage DLC03MQ06 250

The achievement will unlock right after.

NOTE: if this doesn't unlock, change the 250 to a 500, a 1000, or a 3000.

MISSABLE

If you inform the High Confessor of the launch key and hand it over, it will fail the quest.

You will get this quest by either going for the Wind Farm Kill Switch Code or the Nuclear Launch Key from the quest "Best Left Forgotten".

If you go decide to get the Nuclear Launch Key, you will go to the Grand Harbor Hotel where you will find a safe room and listen to a tape to find the launch key is at the Fringe Cove Docks. Recover it and decide to either destroy the Nucleus or inform the High Confessor. If you inform the High Confessor and hand over the key, the quest will fail and you will not get the trophy.

If you go the other route with the Wind Farm Kill Switch code, you will have to go far west to the location DiMA's Cache. Once obtained, you will have to go to the Wind Farm Maintenance Shed near Acadia and repair the fuse box. Now go to Turbine 003 and active it. Once that is done, you will go back to the High Confessor and turn in the quest. Note that this route will destroy Far Harbor and make Push Back The Fog unobtainable, unless you completed the side quests before making this choice.

There is also a third option, if you discover DiMA's secret of murdering Avery and then you decide to keep it a secret, you will get the quest Reformation. Make sure you grab both the Wind Farm Kill Switch code and the Nuclear Launch Key before you talk to the High Confessor. Get the High Confessor to trust you by telling him of the Wind Farm Kill Switch code and make sure you let him know you need time, then give him the holotapes and have him meet you in a secret spot to either kill him or get him to leave if island for good. Once completed, go back to DiMA and turn in the quest. This will give you peace between all three factions.

This achievement is missable!

This quest will be triggered upon entering the Grand Harbor Hotel OR traveling to far off island west of the mainland for their respective side objectives during the "Best Left Forgotten" quest.

If you decide to travel to the hotel, follow the waypoint towards the safe room upstairs and listen to the tape on the terminal. Afterwards, head out to Fringe Cove Docks to recover the launch key and then decide which path you'll take: Destroying the Nucleus or informing the High Confessor.

NOTE: In order to get this achievement, you must choose to destroy the Nucleus without speaking to High Confessor! If you decide to inform High Confessor about the launch key and then hand over the key, the quest will fail and you will miss the achievement.

If you decide to do the other objective instead, travel to the isolated island in the west and recover the kill switch code. Now head inside the Wind Farm Maintenance Shed next to Acadia and follow the objective markers to repair the fuse box. Once seen through, deal with the hostiles beyond the security gate as you make your way to Turbine 003 to active the kill switch. Return to the High Confessor after flipping the switch to turn in the quest.

NOTE: Taking this path during the quest will ensure the destruction of Far Harbor...but it does indeed unlock the achievement.

The trophy can be skipped; before starting the expansion, pay attention to this and make a save on this quest. Details of the quest at the link

To get all the achievements from the add-on without downloads, complete the missions in the following order:
1 - go through all simulations
2 - collect all the parts of the Marines’ armor (you can skip it)
3 - go to the Vim soda factory, learn the secrets
4 - complete the quest Cleansing the Earth to the end
5 - we return to DiMA and complete the quest What life should be
6 - go to Kasumi and finish the addition

3 simulations are enough, the 5th simulation is needed to get the Marine armor...

And now it's more clear...
After extracting 3 or 4 pieces of memory in the quest “It’s Better Not to Remember,” there are several ways to develop the fate of Far Harbor Island. We interrupt the simulation and decide what to do next:
1 - Or we go in search of the rocket launch key. (marker on the map)
2 - Or we find out the code for turning off the capacitors. (marker on the map)

I chose the first option, the quest was activated immediately after visiting the desired location according to the marker on the map (Grand Hotel Harbor).
We complete the chain of actions and get the trophy.

If you want to reconcile the children of the atom and Far Harbor by completing the "Reformation" quest, then it will be enough for the "cleansing the earth" quest to simply be ACTIVATED, that is, you just need to enter the hotel building, where the codes to activate the rocket in the core are located. When you complete "Reformation", "Cleansing the Land" will not fail, but will end along with it and you will receive a trophy. The main thing is not to complete the reformation (you can start the quest) until you receive the cleansing of the land. Checked personally.

If you take the option with the points above, you will get something like the following (as I did):

1 - Go through simulations
2 - Let's go to the Vim factory
3 - We go to DiMA, we decide to reconcile the children of the atom and the inhabitants of Far Harbor
4 - We go to the hotel for the quest “What Life Should Be,” receive the quest “Cleansing the Earth,” and leave.
5. Complete the quest "Reformation"
6. At the last stage of the quest, we return to Dimas, report on success, three quests are completed at once - “Reformation”, “What life should be” and “Cleansing the Earth”. The trophy is received, everyone is happy, a Japanese woman with the name of the Japanese woman from Mass Effect 2 runs to her father with the name of the guy of the Japanese woman from Mass Effect 2 (it’s a coincidence)
