How to unlock the Instigator achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

Easy way to get the achievement is to assign one companion to the red pad and the other to the blue part and have them fight each other.

You create the 2 arena pads blue and red (far left of settlement menu called cages then arena).

Place the pads down in 2 different location.

Now you want to assign companions(these are easier to do cause they will not die in the fight.) Once in the crafting menu go to the settler and click Command(A) to highlight them and then go to one of the pads (red or blue) and click assign(A) to assign them (this will take a few seconds and then it will say there where assigned)

Once they are both set and see each other they will start to fight.

IMPORTANT PART: You must create, power and ring the Quitting Bell(Located in menu cages, miscellaneous) after setting the companions to fight. This is needed for the achievement to pop as it is what causes the settlement to have the people inside all go to the area for the fight.

You should state that you have to build the pads and where they are.

You assign the Settlers to Arena Pads. So one on each colour.

I have update the guide to help a little more and explain where stuff is in the menu and how to set it up.

They will not stop fighting till one is dead. Like with anything Bethsda always save before doing stuff. But trying removing the pads like deleting them. Or resign the settlers somewhere else.

I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have tried with companions, settlers, and animals. I ring the quitting bell, but after the fight the achievement doesn't pop.

Took me a couple tries, but I got it - wouldn;t work when I assigned two normal settlers, so I swapped out one settler with Preston and they finally started fighting. Rang the Quitting Time Bell and seconds later, achievement popped. Thanks for the tips.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong either. I've tried this achievement in different settlements, using two companions, one companion and one settler, and two settlers. I have created and rung the Quitting Bell every time, and nothing works. What is this garbage?

Genuinely perplexed with this. I have two people fighting AND people cheering them on and still no chievo.

I had this pop today from just creating the quitting bell, hooking it up to a generator and flipping the switch... some of you might give that a go. Come back here and let me know if you worked for you as well please.

My guys will not fight. One on each pad. Nothing happens.

edit: Had to create another blue and red platform and assign two more people.

You stated in your solution.........

"You create the 2 arena pads blue and red (far left of settlement menu called cages then arena)."

Actually its the FAR RIGHT (unless you have Nuka World installed)

This worked fine for me. I used the two robots in case that helps anyone.

Codsworth vs Curie

As soon as I assigned them each to a pad they began fighting. I walked over and rang the quitting time siren, seconds later the achievement popped.

..neither of them died permanently.

Worked for me. I used Strong vs Ada in Sanctuary. Set up the red and blue fighting pads and a quitting bell with attached generator. Assigned them to their respective pads, they started fighting. I rang the quitting bell and the achievement popped within twenty seconds.

All right, last post. I got this to pop at The Castle. Did everything exactly the same way. I already had a massive generator built for the radio there, so maybe that made a difference? I should note too that when I tried this the first time I had mods enabled, so maybe that created some kind of issue. I don't know.

I have this set up as specified in the guide, yet my settlers wont fight each other. The only way I can get them to fight is to use companions but they wont stop fighting when I ring the Quitting Time siren. Any ideas?

Quick video explaining how to do the achievement. Pretty straight forward, just assign two settler's to the pads. One to the blue and One to the red, Once the second gets within a short distance of the pad, they will start a fight.

Run over to the Quitting bell siren and ring it, causing the settler's to come watch the fight, remember to power up the quitting bell also. Achievement should pop within a few seconds.
Note that if one of your settler's die in the fight somehow, It will effect your happiness rating for that settlement. (Based on tool-tip of Arena fight's)

Resource's required;

8 x Wood
32 x Steel
3 x Copper
2 x Circuitry
3 x Glass
Generator to provide 1 power rating to the quitting bell.

Hope this helps!

Using the console:
tgm
coc redrocketext
Go to the red workbench in the garage to enter workshop mode:
1. Build a small generator. (Power>Generators)
2. Build a quitting time siren. (Cage>Miscellaneous) and connect it to the generator
3. Build Red and Blue arena pads some distance apart (Cage>Arena) so they don't kill each other too quickly
4. Use the console to spawn some settlers (player.placeatme 20593 5)
5. Assign them all to the red rocket (press r while hovering over them in workshop mode then pick red rocket on the left side)
6. Command a settler to move to the red pad (Enter while hovering over settler to select them, then enter over the pad to tell them to go there)
7. Command a settler to move to the blue pad (see above)
8. Quickly exit workbench mode and activate the quitting time siren, this must be done before the fight ends.

If the fight ends too quickly you can always spawn a couple more settlers and try again.

To create an arena fight you need to enter Workshop Mode in your chosen settlement and build one 'Arena Contestant' (stages) of each colour (i.e one Red and one Blue) they are located under the cage category in their own 'arena' subsection. Once the platforms have been built make sure that there are plenty of Settlers nearby to witness the carnage, then you need to assign a settler or companion to each one but do note that not all companions work for this. To do this, enter Workshop mode then approach a settler/Companion and select command. Now assign them to their respective Arena stage and once assigned, they will begin fighting and the trophy should pop.

You will need the following materials:

Wood x8
Steel x20
Settlers (Unassigned) x2

Note: This trophy isn't glitched but it can be extremely temperamental in deciding when to pop and some players have reported that you may need to build the Bell or Quitting time siren in order to get any spectators to see the fights. If just assigning settlers to the Arena contestant stages and getting them to fight doesn't pop the trophy, then building the bell or Quitting time siren should be your next step.

If after following this walkthrough, you still have problems getting the trophy then see this video by Joe @ Home:

Go to any settlement with settlers in it and build the following four items:

- Arena contestant platform (red)
- Arena contestant platform (blue)
- Quitting time siren
- Power source for the quitting time siren. A small generator should do

Assign a person to each platform. Followers free roaming the settlement are recommended as they cannot die.

Come out of build mode, then activate the quitting time siren.

This should result in the two people fighting and your other settlers gathering round to watch.

This is easily done in any populated settlement of your choosing. First, enter Workshop Mode and construct a "Quitting Time Siren" anywhere where there is clear space. This item is found under CAGES > MISCELLANEOUS. Power it with a generator and then construct both a Blue and Red Team Contestant Platform nearby. These items are found under CAGES > ARENA. From there, assign a settler to each new platform. As soon as the second settler is assigned, the two will become hostile towards each other and begin fighting!

When this happens, exit Workshop Mode and quickly activate the Quitting Time Siren right away. It will blare its alarm and the achievement should unlock within a few seconds.

Again, loot every chest inside the "coc qasmoke" dev room so you can build what you need, then go to any settlement and put up the following:

  • Red Arena Pad
  • Blue Arena Pad
  • Quitting Bell
  • Generator
I would suggest getting this achievement directly after Benevolent Leader (20G) unlocks since you'll have a few settlers to work with. Hook up the generator to the bell, then assign two settlers to the red and blue pads separately. Next, quickly turn on the Quitting Bell so all the other workers stop what they are doing. They will start watching and cheering for the fight, and the achievement will unlock.

When you build platforms, they must be of different colors, one red and the other blue.

If you don’t want to lose someone, then arrange fights between companions (they are immortal). Or just load a previous save after you get the achievement.
