How to unlock the Legend Of The Wastes achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

In my experience so far, I have found a pretty fast way to level up. All you need to do is progress with the Minutemen far enough until you have taken the Castle. Don't worry, going this far will NOT hurt your reputation with any of the other factions. Now, after you have taken the Castle, Preston should have gone back to Sanctuary (at least he did in my case). At this point, he will keep feeding you quests either telling you to go clear out a new settlement, or help an existing one in some way. Depending on your Int level, you can get a pretty nice Exp bonus from farming these quests. I have 8 Int and I am averaging about 150 exp per quest completed. Plus, all of the experience you will get from killing all of the required enemies in each quest. I have gone from 39 to 42 in just over an hour. It's not lightning, sure, but it's the quickest way I have found so far without breaking the game.

WAY #2. Alright, here's for you folks that feel you need to break the game to hit 50. It's simple, all you need to do, is get a decent sniper rifle (make sure it has a long scope, too), and join the Brotherhood of Steel. Set the game to easy and progress until you hit the Learning Curve quest. What the quest will have you do is protect a fellow Knight using your shiny rifle from the deck of a ship. What you WANT to do, though, is crouch and make sure you are HIDDEN. Once you are, your only goal in life should be to team kill the hell out of your friend. Make sure you are HIDDEN before each shot!!! What this does is, if you are UNSEEN, it will just end the quest. You can now go back to Quinlan and claim your 300 exp reward, AND you can do it over, and over again to your hearts content. You should get the 300 exp in all of 90 seconds per run. EASY level 50!

Video for reference: (it isn't mine)

Happy hunting!

A couple of shootouts from the comments here:
Both Illustrious Yeti and South Park TFBW have added that you can get the idiot savant perk, and rank it up so you get the 5x bonus, and right before you turn the quest in, save and turn the quest in. If you don't get the bonus, you can reload and try again to get the bonus! Handy!

On the other, brighter end of the spectrum, A Giant Radroach suggests that you can also max out your Int, get the night person perk for even more intelligence, wear the Vault Tec lab coat for even MORE, and sleep with your lover to get a pretty consistent exp bonus to make it go a little faster. So many options!

Once you have pipers "gift of the gab" perk, you don't need her to accompany you for the perk do you?

Damn approx 419 caps for a silent sniper is expensive though. Any tips on making caps fast other than that exploit with the vendor? Will the brotherhood be hostile if it's not silenced? Because i have a scoped rifle that's not suppressed.

Get the Idiot Savant perk and level it up until you have the x5 times XP bonus. Then save right before you hand in a quest. Turn it in, and if you don't get the x5 times XP, reload the save and keep trying.

Idiot Savant perk works great when it actually generates the bonus which seems to be around 1 in 10-15 tries.

Tests were done and posted on reddit Tyler. It triggered by far the most at 1 and 5 intelligence. 5 more than everything in between 1 is puzzling but that's just how it is.
Having 1 intelligence made it proc so much more than at 2.
I personally made my second character have 1 intelligence, i can do without the crafting perks and hacking, good thing valentine can hack every terminal except for master.

Shame you can't edit comments here, I was going to add that one of my friends felt that missing out on the crafting perks is too much of a cost. Upgrading guns with those perks is nice but you still find good, modified weapons that do a lot more damage than if they were default. Good thing you don't need intelligence to craft armor and melee weapons.

Is there any way to modify your perks and re-spec?

By TylerWardaddy on 22 Nov 2015 16:29
Only on the pc version sadly. Hopefully once mods hit console, that'll be one of them. I'm glad they added the ability to change your face though. I don't regret picking a particular perk because I sometimes manually save to see if i want to keep a certain perk. You can get every perk in the game anyway since you can go above level 50.

As for the Minute Men quests, I seem to be able to stack 2 or 3 at a time. I complete them up to the point where it says "Talk to Preston Garvey" and turn them all in at once. Then I get some new ones. Saves time from hopping to see him after every single run.

From what I've gathered, it's pretty equal for both, it just depends on which play style you want to follow

Idiot savant is the way to go with 1 intelligence, 10 intelligence if started out with higher. Judging from the tests, idiot savant seemed to proc a lot more at 1 than anything else. 128 times at 1 INT as opposed to 31 times at 2 intelligence, lol. It kept decreasing from there except for INT 5 which triggered even more than when it was at 2 as i said earlier.

Squirrel Stew also given you something like a 2% XP bump, but it's pretty short lived. You can also get the "An Experience to Remember" Live and Love magazine in Goodneighbor (on the bar counter, to the right of the entrance as you go into Hotel Rexford) that gives you a permanent 5% XP bump when traveling with a companion. I basically did what others did - just banked side quests from Haylen and Rhys, went to sleep, used Idiot Savant, and saved right before turning each one in. If you have trouble getting the Idiot Savant bonus, try shutting down your console and restarting it. That works fairly regularly for me if the RNG isn't being nice.

Also, maxing your relationship with Piper (woman reporter in Diamond City) will give you double experience for discovering locations and passing speech checks. It might be a drop in the ocean, but it's something.

You need to be at the exact spot in the video. I never had trouble. I tried straying from the video once and had that issue, because there's a Knight that sees you from the entrance where you come in, and if you're at the spot in the video, it can't see you

Never heard of an achievement being delayed for 2 weeks. That's really odd. When you snap the achievement app or whatever the tab is called on the updated dashboard, it should say "done.. unlocking" when playing the game and hovering over the achievement. Now if you've had experience with the issue in the past, you'll know that those words don't mean it'll unlock very shortly after. It can take a while.

Make sure you stay still right after you kill the scribe. Moving right away may cause the Brotherhood to go hostile. You’re detected right after you make the kill, but as long as you stay still and wait until you’re hidden, you should be fine.

You should edit it to say that idiot savant is great. i got over 1000xp for turning in the learning curve quest. Each intelligence level only increases xp gains by 3% btw

By IllustriousYeti on 18 Nov 2015 21:01
If your already a bit into the game. I came across this after I hit 50.
But you can maximise your xp output by having
10 Intelligence
Vault-Tec lab coat (+2 Intelligence) from Vault 85

Lovers Embrace from your lover/companion (15% xp boost)

Night Person perk (6 Perception required)
Rank 1 - +2 Intelligence
Rank 2 - +3 Intelligence

And even gain a little more from some Mentats if you're resistant to Chems (Chem Resistant Rank 2)

A lot of effort I know, but I'm getting 51xp for the kill and 514xp for the quest. Without using chems. Still searching for a hat of any sort that'll increase Intelligence too

By A Big Radroach on 18 Nov 2015 21:04
No you do not. Just max the relationship then switch to whichever other companion you want, the perk will remain active. All companion perks (at least the ones I've unlocked so far) remain active even though the companion isn't following you.

IN ADDITION TO using idiot savant, or increasing INT you can use Squirrel Stew!

Squirrel stew will add a +2% xp boost for 2 hours.

to make squirrel stew you need to use a cooking station and have

Bloodleaf (1)
Carrot (1)
Dirty water (2)
Squirrel bits (1)
Tato (1)

Reaching level 50 should come naturally as you play through the game and earn the rest of the achievements. However, if you are impatient like I am, you can simply duplicate shipments of copper and build statues to boost your experience like crazy.

you will need to find a copy of picket fences which can be found in Saugus Ironworks

now that you have the statues, follow this video to learn how to duplicate shipments of copper to boost your xp to get those few extra levels you need

make sure you quicksave after every few duplications so you don't need to keep buying more!

samsaBEAR pointed out that the more shippments you have, the quicker and easier it is to duplicate as you do not need to press the buttons as quickly

!!PATCH ALERT!!

Copper duplication glitch has been patched as of update 1.4 which took place 3/11/16.
Looks like they want to make you go it the old fashion way. If you are just a few levels off from 50 and just want to get it done however you can exploit the unlimited cap glitch (Human Error with Handsome Dan quest, might want to give it a google) to help buy a ton of shipments of copper to make statues that way. However the process is slowed by the fact that only 2 vendors in the game sell copper and it takes them 48 hours for their stock to resupply. Just a thought, but the pace of leveling this way is much closer to the pace of leveling through combat so im not sure how worth it it really is.

Okay I have a fantastic strategy here that can provide 10k XP in a minute.

What you must do is 1st of all acquire the Statue addition of "Picket Fences" this can be found in Saugus Fireworks on the floor in the room with the big heavy Gunner called Slag.

After this you're gonna need to create a cabinet and every single item in your workshop and your junk from your inventory put into the cabinet.

Right now all you need to do is acquire a Shipment of Copper (more the better)

Once this is in your inventory this is a duplicate trick, quicksave... Go into your workshop and press Y X quickly, what this will do is times the 25 Copper you get in a shipment by how ever many you have, keep saving when you get 500 more as sometimes you can be too slow and it will corrupt your shipments of Copper and you'll need to get more.

Please note you can only do this in the build workshop not the weapon/armor etc ones.

Once you have enough Copper I would recommend 10k which currently gives me 4 levels, find an open space like Drive in or the Island and keep making statues in a long line, this only requires Copper, then once you've hit your limit you should be flying on XP, just delete all those statues and start over.

Max Intelligence gives 30XP per statue and if you have the Lover's Embrace Perk from Romancing Piper it hands out 35XP per statue once romanced.

Hope this helps!

I've just tested and you cannot do this with just 1 shipment so you'll need to acquire 2, shops are unpredictable so you can actually duplicate any item by setting Dogmeat as your companion, if you drop the item and ask him to pick it up, try pick it up exactly when he does and you'll have the item in your inventory while he drops the duplicate.

Thanks to ST0NE C0LD ET for adding this:
"Wanted to add that Arturo in Diamond City sells shipments of Copper and red rocks every 48 hours

Also for a faster XP grind instead of deleting all of your statues once you've filled your lot, single one out and then mash X and A on it repeatedly to begin a Scrap/Build loop that is lightning quick!"

Sorry for late reply, that's what the saves are for.. If you screw up.

Also to find Dogmeat; stick a bell or siren at one of your settlements and sound it, all your close by settlers/companions will go towards the bells location.

I was unable to duplicate a shipment of copper. After I pressed the buttons really fast, the "Shipment of Copper" just became "Copper." I'm guessing if you screw up the dupe, then you're screwed out of whatever caps you spent on the shipment?

I also have no idea where Dogmeat went after I dismissed him like a month ago LOL.. I've checked everywhere, so I can't do his dupe trick either for other stuff.

Here is an exploit after the latest patch. I am not the founder of this exploit and a ton of videos on YouTube will show you how, but i'm posting this for people like me that better like text guides. So i'm giving full credits to the founders of this glitch.

So here you go, the first thing you'll need is the Automatron DLC.

1) Go to a settlement with a companion where you have no power or other items as such placed and take the most junk you can transport in your inventory so you can craft items there.

2) Once there build a Robot Workbench.

3) Ceate an new Automatron and craft a new Torso for it. For this case, I used the Assaultron Torso.

4) Now this step is really important. Click back on the Protectron torso on the top of the list so the mod you created goes in your inventory.

5) Craft a container and place it beside your red workbench.

6) Take everything in your workbench and place everything except your Robot mod in the container.

7) With only your Robot mod in your inventory, stand next to the Robot Workbench.

8) Call your companion and command him to go next to the Robot Workbench.

9) Trade with him and as soon as you click trade, enter in the Robot Workbench.

10) Now if you did it well, your screen should be messed up with both the trade and the Robot mod options overlapping on each other.

11) Click on the Assaultron mod.

12) Now spam the hell out of Right on the D-Pad and A.

You will keep getting XP as long as you spam.

If you get out of the Workbench and are willing to do the glitch again, you will have to create a new Assaultron mod to have in your inventory.

There you go! Fast and easy way to be level 50!
Hope you enjoy and here's the video I used to do the glitch.

Reaching Level 50 will take a long time, but you should be close to it by the time you are near the Platinum. Pretty much everything earns you XP e.g. from killing enemies, to picking locks. The amount of XP you get is based on your intelligence but it isn't a huge amount. When I was on Intelligence 11, I was getting 405xp from a radiant quest. When I got it to 16 through perks and Mentats, it was earning my 435xp. The difference is hardly noticeable so don't feel compelled to put points into intelligence.

There is currently a radiant quest that you can complete very quickly. The method is as follows:

THIS METHOD CAN ONLY BE DONE IF YOU SIDED WITH THE BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL AND DIDN'T KILL THEM BY SIDING WITH OTHER FACTIONS.

  1. Join the Brotherhood of Steel and go to their airship. Once onboard, talk to Proctor Quinlan. He can be found on the main deck of the ship, in the second room on the right. He will always be in this room. Talk to him and ask about assisting on patrols. He will give you a quest called "Learning Curve".
  2. Go outside the ship and to the very back left part that sticks out. You now want to equip a sniper (any will do, you can modify a laser rifle to give it a sniper barrel and that will be more that sufficient). You want to shoot the scribe who is near the sandbags/security gate. Make sure you are in a [HIDDEN] state when you fire the shot, else the brotherhood will shoot you. If you have perks such as "Mister Sandman" and "Ninja" you will do a lot of damage through the sneak attack and probably kill him in one shot.
  3. Return to Proctor Quinlan and tell him the scribe died. You'll still get the XP and the caps even though he died. You can then ask him about patrols again and get given the same quest. Repeat as often as you'd like.

This achievement is for reaching level 50. As stated in my other guides, "The ways of doing this are winning charisma checks, killing things, turning in quests, lockpicking/hacking, crafting and discovering locations. In this Fallout installment, higher difficulties DO NOT give more experience. To my knowledge, it only decreases your health regen rate. You could go into the luck tree and grab the Idiot Savant achievement. It helps you get experience as long as you have low intelligence." As well to help, here are 2 guides from IGN that will help early game. The first is for the Cryolater right after getting Dogmeat. (he is at the gas station right outside Sanctuary) http://www.ign.com/wikis/fallout-4/Stealing_the_Ultimate_Wea... And the next is for the Power Armor within the first 5 mins

Reaching level 50 is a test of patience and thoroughness. You will earn XP for just about any action you perform in the game. That includes completing quests, killing wasteland hostiles, discovering new locations, picking locks and hacking terminals, crafting settlement items, tweaking gear and weapon mods, cooking recipes, and even passing speech checks in dialogue.

All in all, XP will be rolling your way over the course of your playthrough, and so long as you are persistent with your exploration and questing, reaching level 50 won't be a problem at all. In the event you want a little boost throughout your playthrough though, you can invest in the "Idiot Savant" perk (level 5 perk) under the Luck skill tree. This perk will randomly grant you small amounts of bonus XP for any action you perform; the lower your Intelligence skill, the greater the chance of XP. It may not seem like much, but it all adds up.

If you are having trouble leveling there are a plethora of repeating quests that you can do ad nauseam to gain massive levels.

  • Pest Control
  • Hypothesis
  • Appropriation
  • Reciamation
  • Political Leanings

Don’t forget to wear things for intelligence + mentats during the monotonous running around the brotherhood of steel for experience. And another dream, preferably with a companion. The increase is small, but still better than without it.

If you go through the expansions, you don’t have to bother with the experience boost.

Great glitch with the Automatron add-on.
We get level 15 and go to complete the first quest of the automatron “Mechanical Enemy”. After we kill all the robots and talk to Ada, the “Workbench for Robots” will become available to us.
Then we do it as in the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwN6LP1JsAE
I upgraded the level using Ada, it is not necessary to create a new robot.

accumulated it 8000
and from level 44 I swung to 50 without problems
with the "Piper" buff there are still more than 2000 copper left

Today, 02/10/2016, patch 1.03 was released and the glitch with “copying” games was not fixed, so if it doesn’t work, then you’re either doing something wrong, or you need to wait a little or try loading another save. I had a moment when “copying” stopped working, the batches simply moved to the workshop, although they should have been unpacked.
