How to unlock the Mercenary achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

The easiest way I have found to getting this is by when you are part of the Brotherhood of steel, they give you the items 'Vertibird Signal Grenade' whenever you throw one down a vertibird gets sent to your location.

when it arrives and lands down, it gives you the prompt to 'board the vertibird' when you check your quests on your pip boy it is under Miscellaneous. so all you do it bore the vertibird and it counts towards your total.

You can also buy more of these grenades for Proctor Teagan onboard The Prydwen

Hopefully this doesn't get patched because 50 misc objectives without doing this is arguably too much for 30g

By IllustriousYeti on 14 Dec 2015 11:30
Yeah. Best way to do this is in sanctuary. Part of the quest line makes you build beds and all there so what I do is sleep for 2 hours throw a signal, rest for 2 hours, repeat. It's easier than loading screens or anything. Might be able to sleep for 1 hour instead but I do 2 since I know it works. Basically doubles the process since I only boarded like 5 during my original quest.

By xBrushedRedx on 05 Jan 2016 03:58
The loading time to somewhere like red rocket would be really short though so it doesn't seem like a real time saver.

I don't know if this was a glitch or what, but after visiting the Atom Cats Garage I started the mission to fix a pipe at warwick. I completed that objective and without ruining what follows I'll just say I popped this achievements a few minutes afterwards. I believe I needed 5 more Misc. objectives before I started the "fix a pipe" objective so it seems you must earn 5 Misc. objectives in quick succession if you do this part. Hope it helps someone.

By DopamineLoop on 14 Jan 2016 01:04
guys all you have to do is duplicate the grenades with the dog so buy like 8 duplicate so you have 16 then duplicate again so you have 32 and then once more its really easy took me like 5 minutes to get 60 grenades
0
0
By xXITzMoSSYXx on 18 Jan 2016 20:21
Yeah but loading screens doesn't always disable the vertibird. Sometimes I'd throw and it told me I couldn't have more than one. Sleeping 2 hours made the vertibird leave so that I could throw another. Besides it was shorter than the loading screen anyway

Another tip to make this go faster is to stock up on however many vertibird grenades you need to complete the achievement (in my case I needed 25). Once you have enough to get to 50 make a save. Now all you have to do is call in the vertibirds and once the vertibird gets there board it, once you see the completed notification hop out and destroy the vertibird and then rinse and repeat. Much faster way to do it I got my 25 pretty quick. Just make sure to make that save because the brotherhood will see you as an enemy if you go back to the preydwin.

Bit of a cheeky add, if you fast travel to Boston Airport and throw a Vertibird signal board the Vertibird, travel to The Prydwen and then simply jump off and repeat.
Pro Tip: Make sure you're wearing your Power Armor before jumping off ...

Based on what I'm seeing, if a settlement comes under attack and you successfully help defend it, these count towards miscellaneous objectives. I had 40 when I had to defend The Slog, and afterwards (after getting the successful message) I had 41, so I think those count too.

Goodneighbor - Whitechapel Charlie (The Third Trail): Clear out the Waehouses
Goodneighbor - Whitechapel Charlie (The Third Trail): Return to Whitechapel Charlie

(BTW, the bar is actually called The Third Rail, lol)

You may want to note that you need to buy something from him in order for him to offer you a side mission......

Side note: Don't bring Nick with you, he will dislike you taking the job.....

Plus one from me....just wanted to add, I was at 48/50 when I started the Far Harbor DLC, apparently, Hull Breach (Given by the Mariner) and the first Blood Tide mission I did for Cassie got me the cheevo

Edie: Just wanted to add that it seems that the side quests for Far Harbor DO count towards this cheevo, as stated above, I was at 48/50 when I started, did 6 side missions and I'm now at 54

This method only works if you have done the Brotherhood of Steel quest line. Since you're going for the achievements chances are you either have already done it, or are about to. Just follow the video and it will show you how to get this.

A good place to do this would be any location near Pryden since once you exit the vertibird and throw another grenade, a new vertibird comes rather than the old one coming back so the closer you are to the brotherhoods base the quicker the vertibird comes

DISCLAIMER: You'll need the Automatron DLC for this method.
The way I did this one was a pretty simple one, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it posted here:

If you build the Eyebot Pod, you can send it to search for materials/ammo/explosives for you. To build the Eyebot Pod you'll need:

Copper - 2
Circuitry - 4
Aluminum - 6
Fiber Optics - 2
Nuclear Material - 2

You'll also need to power it. It consumes 6 power.

When you send the Eyebot out to search for materials, you'll get a miscellaneous objective, telling you to "Wait for Eyebot to Locate [Insert Selected Material]," as well as a second one after that material has been found.

Doing it this way will not only net you this achievement, but also help you find the more elusive materials you're lacking for your settlements.

Just a little help not a guide.

Misc objectives are little quests from NPC, you can find them at the bottom of your Quests tab under miscellaneous.

In one hand, easy ones are the protect mission of one settlement, they appear at random intervals. Think to check you quest tab because they are not always notify to you... A third of mine were done this way.
In other hand, in general, try looking for in every small city/camp and ask the vendors or bartender for jobs.
ex: diamond city, goodneibhor, bunker hill, vault 81, atomic cats ...
Finally in all faction HQ they are a few easy ones like open your chest or talk to x.

you can check your progress in the stat tab: quest/misc and they are not stackable over multiple playthrough.

Thanks to SwiftlyLosing for that:
"if you call in a Vertibird using the signal grenade then it gives you a misc objective to get inside the Vertibird which counts towards it."

Much like the above solutions, except I went with the minutemen ending. After finishing the game I talked to Preston and he mentioned we salvaged a Vertibird from the BoS and he gave me Vertibird signal grenades. Everytime you use your Vertibird it counts as a misc mission. 6 Vertibird Signal grenades spawn in your workbench at Sanctuary every 24 hours.
Hope this helped.

10 Dec 2015 10:45

Just an add on to Shortitom's above guide.

Quickest way I've found is to summon a Vertibird in a settlement.
Build a chair for you to sit on to wait.

After summoning a Vertibird and boring, jump off and wait in the seat you built for one hour. After that hour the Vertibird will fly off and you can rinse and repeat.

Saves having to save and quit or riding the vertibird around the area. If you board and jump straight off it will continue to sit there. So waiting an hour will make it fly off.

Apologies if this has already been covered by someone else. Just wanted to try and make this one a little less tedious.

setstage 000537FF 10
setstage 000537FF 255
(You can probably get away with just doing these two comamnds to start and finish the mission "Show no Mercy", if not, switch out the last number with: 20, 30, 70, 100, 110, 255)
player.additem 00056917 50
This gives you 50 vertibird signal grenades. After having console command finished Show No Mercy and giving yourself 50 vertibird signal grenades, go anywhere and throw one down (left alt held down and released to throw), board the veritibird, and destroy it. Repeat this 50 times. You can check the stats for this: Pip Boy > Data > Stats > Quest, it'll be titled "Misc Objectives Completed"

There is a way to make this go WAY faster.

Follow the guide steps to when you get the 50 grenades. Then open the console and type 'tgm'. This gives you unlimited grenades. Equip them.

Now go to Sanctuary in front of your home, open the console and type 'sgtm 15'. This speeds up the game speed 15 fold. Throw the grenade down and the vertibird should land in front of you, very quickly. Hop in and out with E key. Now instead of destroying it, wait 5 seconds for it to fly away. Throw another. Rinse and repeat.

This eliminates the long wait time for the vertibird to land.

Note: I used 15 because anything faster made my character hard to control. So 15 seemed to be the sweet spot for me.

I just want to clarify that the "destroy it" is referring to the Vertibird itself. Once you board it, it counts as a Misc. Objective, and destroying it allows you to hail another one.

First, join the Brotherhood of Steel (the walkthrough for the Xbox One version of the game is a great guide, especially if you're going for all achievements). You should do some miscellaneous quests along the way. Anyway, they will give you the Vertibird Signal Grenade.

Next, press the tilde "~" on your keyboard and type "tgm" for God Mode, which gives you unlimited ammo.

Now fast travel anywhere that has a sky and equip the VSG. Press and hold cn_RB (I use a controller, so I'm not sure what key the default is on the keyboard) for a second until you hear a click) and release (it'll take a minute to arrive).

Once the Vertibird arrives, you'll get a prompt to "Board the Vertibird". This is a very repeatable miscellaneous quest.

Choose any location to travel to, though you're not actually going there. Instead, press cn_A when you get the prompt and repeat the process.

To make this smoother, you can even have the Vertibird take you where you need to go for a quest, collectible, or even just to kick some ass.

For anyone skipping around with console commands: You need to finish the quest 'show no mercy' to get these grenades which is in act 2 of the campaign. In order for the Prydwen to appear, you have to finish reunions. I played through Reunions because there is a trigger for the ship to appear that didn't go off when using console commands to complete reunions.

So
1) finish reunions by playing through it NOT console commands
2) play through BOS quest line until you complete 'Show No Mercy'
3) Misc quest away- after getting in the vertibird you can get back out and blow it up then just call a new one.

Another tip - use command 'SGTM 5' to speed the game up, the vertibird comes very quickly and makes this grind a lot quicker. You can increase the value but 5 felt like a sweet spot for me. To put time back to normal type in 'sgtm 1' just without the quotes of course.

By xTMx Voytek on 13 Jan 2022 00:38
Voytek's comments are not accurate at all. You don't have to play any of the BOS quests without CC. I just did it now following the other guide and it worked 100% first try. Took maybe 10 seconds to pop after the 50th ride.

The easiest way do complete this achievement is when joining the Brotherhood. Get yourself some "Vertibird Signal Grenades" from Proctor Teagan inside the Prydwen. The first time he gives you 8 of these, but you can buy more of him over time.
Go to a settlement, place a chair and throw the signal next to it. After a short time a Vertibird will land nearby and you'll get the Misc. objective to board it. It counts as complete once you've done that. When inside, just leave it again. DON'T FLY AWAY! Get on the chair, wait for an hour and the Vertibird will launch off again. Just throw another signal grenade and wait for the next Vertibird. Repeat that until you got your 50 Misc. Objectives.

To start this guide you must have done quite a bit of the brotherhood story line, as you want to have vertibird signal grenades

Once you have 50, choose 2 locations, they must be quite a bit of ways apart (for me I chose sanctuary and Abernathy farm). Now go to one of these locations, throw down a grenade, then wait. The vertibird should make their way to you. Once they land, board the vertibird, then unboard it. Teleport to the 2nd location and repeat! The achievement should pop at 50

I got this from somewhere else, if you ended with the brotherhood of steel, just call in vertibirds with the grenades, each time you climb onto it counts as a miscellaneous objective. I had to do this as some of the missions didn't work correctly.

Misc objectives can be found in the "Miscellaneous" part of the "Data" => "Quests" area in the Pip-boy. This trophy you will actively have to work towards, as miscellaneous quests are few and far between. However, there are a few ways you can easily farm it. The best way is to use the "Vertibird Signal Grenades". Do note, you have to not be hostile with the Brotherhood of Steel or the Railroad for this and have advanced far enough into their questlines that you have these grenades. You can buy them from Teagan on the Prydwen or from Tinker Tom in the Railroad HQ. Vendors sell between 5-10 each time you visit him. To refresh their stock, simply wait 48hrs (sit in a chair or sleep in a bed for two intervals of 24hr wait times).

Now just find an open place on the map near a marked location, and throw one of the signals. The Vertibird will fly in and land and it'll come up saying "Board the Vertibird". This counts as a misc objective. Now just throw get in it, and get out of it right away. Fast travel to another marked location and repeat. The reason you have to move away is the Vertibird stays on the floor and sometimes throwing a second one at the same location will not spawn a second Vertibird. Repeat until you have the trophy:

There are several ways to get this but there is one way that is infinite spawns from the Brotherhood of steel questline.

1) As soon as you enter Diamond City, make your way to the Mayors office and talk his secretary about work.
Now there's a glitch linked to this system, you can not clear random locations while exploring as it'll mean leas bounties spawning. Another reason for this glitch seems to be taking too many misc objectives at once.
Heading to the board the first time nets you one, and as many missions as the game is willing to give you.
2) Atom Cats: Once you discover the Atom Cats garage, do all of their missions, every single one is a misc objective (you also get a Bobblehead from this location)
3) Talk to every vendor in Diamond City, Goodneighbour and Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill is glitchy and seem to only talk to you after level 40 for some reason. These rack up a few.
4) There's a few in the random townships, e.g. Jamacia Plains, that have misc objectives turn in to quests.
5) Vault 81 and Bunker Hill tours count towards this trophy, so take both. Do NOT dismiss Meg at Bunker Hill as she takes your money and then gets angsty about it.
6) As in the other solution you can boost this at any time by getting new vertibird grenades from Prydwen and using those, everytime you board it, it counts.
7) As much as we hate him, Preston Garvey will sometimes give you misc objectives for settlements instead of quests.
8) Keep an eye on your pipboy, it sometimes puts a random defensive misc ovjective on there. *unconfimed glitch*

As a side note, the Brotherhood will reward you with caps for returning Technical documents, this only counts once towards this trophy, every other time you return them after that, the game stops counting it.

Miscellaneous objectives are small favors/quests that aren't necessarily significant enough to be classified as a side quest. One such objective entails bringing some Jet to Mama Murphy once you reach Sanctuary. Various other objectives such as small fetch-like favors can be triggered frequently so long as you speak to everyone you come across in the Commonwealth.

To track these objectives, bring up the Pip-Boy. Under DATA, then QUESTS, you should see a tab labeled "Miscellaneous." Any and all objectives listed here can be marked as your active quest for the time being. Completing 50 of these small objectives will come naturally over the course of your playthrough. Just remember to talk to everyone in order to pick up leads, favors, and tasks.

One good area to farm misc. objectives would be the Diamond City wanted board. You can continuously return to the board to get new wanted tasks. If you look to the left of Moe's Swatter Shop you will see the Wanted board.

A second excellent strategy is to call in the vertibird using the Brotherhood smoke grenades. You get a miscellaneous objective for entering the vertibird allowing you to then exit. Fast travel to a new area and throw another grenade rinsing and repeating. For additional smoke grenades see Proctor Teagan on The Prydwen.

A small addition to the tip with the Brotherhood of Steel and the Fanwings:
You do not have to fly to another location, as soon as you have chosen your destination and the helicopter has taken off (you can select the same location where you are now), immediately click , when the “land” message appears, this speeds up the process significantly. Just as you land and the rotorcraft begins to take off, you can immediately throw a grenade to call another, proven! (No need to throw two, only one flies)

You must complete 50 tasks from the "Miscellaneous" section
The statistics will be displayed as the second line in the “tasks” tab.

For some reason, everyone writes that friendship with the Brotherhood of Steel is necessary in order to farm extra. tasks. But this is not so. I completed the game as “Underground”, and after that I calmly won this trophy. "Underground" also has checkers that summon vertibirds!

The toughest trophy in my playthrough. If I had left the passage for the Brotherhood of Steel until last, I could have used the most common scheme, and since my friendship with the Brotherhood was destroyed, I had to fly and run around the map and wait for the task “Help the residents defend themselves.” It took me over 10 hours to complete the missing 26 tasks for this trophy.

This list definitely needs clarification or clarification. Several randomly completed quests from it (in particular, clearing Vault 75, talking with students in Vault 81 and clearing a location with Raiders on the assignment of Most Wanted from Diamond City) were counted as side quests, and not as “Other” (if I’m correct I understand they are needed for the trophy).

If you are not in a hurry, finding and searching all the locations yourself, sometimes completing the quests that come your way, you will get this trophy quite easily. I climbed the entire map except Boston itself, and yesterday both trophies popped up at the same time - level 50 and 50 tasks.

Read all the notes and listen to all the audio recordings you collected, some of them contain tasks.
Just run around the map, random events are quite likely (not the ones that help your allies)

If you have ruined your relationship with the Brotherhood of Steel, or the toad is strangling you to constantly buy checkers, then here is another way. If you have the automaton add-on, then in the room of the main villain of this add-on you can take a blueprint for the robot-eye docking station. We build it, give the command to look for something, wait until the robot finds the thing, take it, repeat everything again. 2 tasks in one round, plus valuable swag, in the form of rare cartridges (22mm eq, for example) or nuclear blocks.

Performed using checkers to call a rotorcraft. I bought them from Tom, for the subway.

For those who generally completed the game and did not have enough tasks:
There is a series of quests called "letter in a bottle"
There will be 6 free tasks in total.

1. Go through the Automotron add-on, at the driver’s base in the living room there is a drawing of the robot-eye station.
2. Build generators and robot eye stations on the base, the more, the faster. Place the bed next to it.
3. Send robot eyes on a search, first everyone for resources, then ammunition, and then explosives, sleep for 6 hours. Call everyone off and sleep for three hours. You send them on a new search. It took me less than 10 minutes to get the trophy.

Where to look for additional tasks, open the pipboy, there is the INFO/TASKS tab, scroll down the list of “available” tasks to the last line called “MISCELLANEOUS” - these are the tasks for this trophy, this is for those who didn’t know... By the way , the "miscellaneous" tab is displayed only when such a task has been taken; if there are no such tasks, the contribution will disappear. So if suddenly a message flashes about saving a village, but you don’t understand where to run and how, go to different places - everything will be there...

I came across a place useful for this trophy. Find a homemade docking station for the robo-eye and send it to look for materials, the simpler the better, so as not to wander through the dungeons later) when the robo-eye finds the materials (usually it’s enough just to teleport so that it completes the search) we go to the mark and collect them, this is right away + 2 additional tasks. So we do it in a circle and then the trophy does not cause any difficulties)

This is an easy way to get this achievement.

Here is the guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuezDefO6iY
The point is this.
1)You must be on good terms with the Brotherhood of Steel.
2) Buy Brotherhood flares from Tigan (Located on the Brotherhood airship) (to call the turntable) (Every 48 game hours they are restored in his store)
3) Let's go to a location where there are no more enemies! There we throw the checker.
4) When the turntable arrives, get into it and use fast travel on it to another location, again, where there are no enemies!
Using the turntable as a fast travel device counts towards these same tasks.
And so on until the victorious clang.
UPD : It will be easier and faster to do it in shelter location 111. As the spinner sits down, select any item, as soon as the pinwheel starts to rise, press quickly to get off and save time on a flight to another location. As soon as you get off, you throw a signal flare and start all over again.

Along with the "Magnanimous Ruler" achievement, this achievement is the most difficult and time-consuming in the game! You need to complete as many as 50 additional tasks from the miscellaneous section in the Pip-Boy. This can be done in two ways - either talk to all random characters in large cities, or complete tasks that appear from time to time to protect settlements. The problem is that these quests appear very rarely, and random characters generally always give main quests, not additional ones!
Here are a few locations where there are definitely characters who give out these quests that we most need:
1. Diamond City
2. Good neighborliness
3. Atomic Cats Garage
4. Sanctuary (you can give Mother Murphy various drugs until she dies and each drug will be counted as an additional quest)
5. Prydwen (if you chose and supported the Brotherhood of Steel)
I found a convenient interactive map where you can see all the locations where these quests are located (they are marked there as misc objectives)
https://fallout4map.de/w/index.html#...0.261, -67.456
If you play for the Brotherhood of Steel, there is another easiest way to get this achievement - call their helicopter using a signal bomb, sit in it and each such call will be counted as an additional quest.

Generally not a difficult achievement if you are interested in the game and explore the world, + if you complete the ending with the brotherhood, you will receive 9-10 flare grenades, and each call of the rotorcraft in a similar way activates the “get into the rotorcraft” task. I would say that “hack 50 computers” is much worse than that.
