How to unlock the Push Back The Fog achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

There are four Settlements in New Harbor, 2-4 can be missed if you progress too far in the Main story and choose certain Options

[1] Longfellow's Cabin: After arriving in Far Harbor, you’ll be directed to Old Longfellow to reach Acadia. Go with Old Longfellow to Acadia during the Walk in the Park quest to unlock this workshop.

[2] Dalton’s Farm: Speak with Cassie in Far Harbor and complete the Blood Tide optional questline to gain workshop access to Dalton’s Farm.

[3] National Park Visitor'a Center: Speak with the Bartender in Far Harbor and complete the Quests Rite of Passage + The Hold Out to unlock this Settlement

[4] Echo Lake Lumber: Complete the quest Rite of Passage and start the quest Turn Back the Fog from Small Bertha in Far Harbor. Refuse to let Malcolm have the land to take it for yourself.

I've updated the Solution. I think you have to load a old Savegame...

its not necessary to complete hold out for the visitor's center, the achievement unlocked for me, already had the cabin and farm, after talking to him and he tells you to set up the defenses before the trappers attack

May 18, 2020 you can complete the main quest-line of the DLC and still unlock this achievement. I completed Turn Back the Fog with The Hold Out active and the achievement unlocked. This was after making peace between all 3 factions. I kept the secret and then replaced the leader of Atom with a synth. Just in case anyone is still playing this :)

Well, this achievement is either bugged, or requires more than just unlocking the workbenches. I have all 4 unlocked but no achievement. I even went back to an earlier save and did the lumber yard before the old man. Still nothing. I have done very little of the main quest So I guess I'll see what happens when I progress that one. I have a save before the last two so if it doesn't pop later. I'll come back and try it again. If T pops I'll come back and comment at what point it unlocked.

RiddLs: You total legend ... After having Achievents, Oversight, Home Sweet Home, Trapper and Docile Glitch out on me, where I had done everything required to complete each quest and not having them ping, I had to roll back she saves from 5d:12h to 19h, where I had no places unlocked south of Diamond city (rough estimate) then tracked south to quincy quarrys with a pretty week character build just to replay the Vault 88 quest line again... Now Its leveling up, getting the perks, the meats and the plants to enable Trapper and Docile, Then its off to Far Harbour .. Your advice has probably saved me a days play and replay time.. Then onward to Nuka World .. Oh what joyus fun I shall be having...

After your initial opening mission on Far Harbor, talking to Captain Avery will give you side quests to help out the people living on the dock. Once you do the first tasks giving to you by Cassie and the Mariner, Avery will give you a third task where you'll have to fix some fog condensers. After that is done, you will be greeted by a guy in labcoats named Teddy who offers to help you earn some respect amongst the locals. See his mission through and you'll get two additional quests from Mitch and Small Bertha. Both of those will unlock workbences, one in the National Park Visitor's Center and one in Echo Lake Lumber. Combine those two with the workbench Old Longfellow let's you use after he leads you through the fog and the achievement will be yours.

It is worth mentioning that I was not able to use the workbench at the National Park Visitor's Center when I first passed through there, before being given the quest.

I don't know of any fancy console commands for skipping quests, but seeing as there is no guide, I thought I'd post a great video by PowerPyx as well as a few useful console commands to help get this done:

Useful commands to go along with the video (press ~ to access console):

coc FarHarborExt
(^Teleports player to Far Harbor)

tgm
(^Activates "God Mode" making player invincible and gives you infinite ammo)

tcl
(^This command lets you clip through solid objects such as walls, trees, rocks, etc. This command is wonky and sometimes doesn't work unless you restart the game.)

sgtm 2
(^This command speeds up in game time. Depending on what number you put after sgtm, it changes the speed at which the world moves. I would recommend anything between 2 and 5 depending on the situation, but often setting it too high will make the game near unplayable.)

player.additem 00074d10 5
(^As a final bonus command, during one of the quests you must drop a piece of raw meat into a body of water to attract a creature. Assuming you don't have a piece of raw meat on hand use the above command to add Radscorpion Meat to your inventory.)

You can absolutely use console commands for these, but its a little complicated. At the least you can avoid having to actually perform the actions for the quests. I used the video above for the order and listing of the quests combined with the Fallout 4 Wiki to use the setstage command. You still need to communicate with the NPCs at the correct time - just find the NPCs, start the relevant quests, and step thru the stages of the quest using console commands. Once you've reached the final stage of the quest talk to the NPC and the workshop should unlock.

MISSABLE

There is a possibility to fail these side quests due to certain choices made in the quest Cleansing the Land. Either complete the side quests before doing that one or read the walkthrough for "Cleansing the Land".

There is a total of 4 workshop locations, one you will get during the main quest, while the other three unlock during side quests.

  • Longfellow's Cabin - This will unlock naturally after you go to Acadia with Longfellow during the main quest "Walk in the Park".

  • Dalton's Farm - You will unlock this when helping out Cassie with the "Blood Tide" quest, which you'll get when asked to help the people of Far Harbor.

  • Echo Lumber Lake - Once you complete the quest for Cassie, Avery or the Mariner, the doctor, Terry, will approach you and trigger the quest "Rite of Passage". Complete this quest then talk to Small Bertha to get the quest "Turn Back the Fog", which will unlock this settlement upon completion.

  • National Park Visitor's Center - Like the one above, once you complete "Rite of Passage", you can talk to Mitch in The Last Plank to get the quest "The Hold Out". Go to the National Park Visitor's Center and speak to Mitch's uncle. Doing so will unlock this settlement.

There are four settlements in Far Harbor. For this achievement you need to unlock three of them.

One is the Longfellow's cabin. It will get unlocked after the main quest "Walk in the Park." Just talk to Old Longfellow after the quest.

Then there's Dalton Farm. You unlock it during the quest chain "The Blood Tide" by Cassie Dalton. After the second quest Cassie tells you that the farm can be used as a settlement now.

National Park visitor's center is unlocked during Mitch's quest "The Hold Out". To unlock the quest, you need to complete "Living on the Edge" (main quest) and "Rite of Passage" to get access to "The Changing Tide". Talk to Mitch in the Last Plank to get his quest. Go to the Visitor's Center, talk to Uncle Ken and the Workshop gets unlocked immediately.

The fourth and last settlement is the Echo Lake Lumber also need the quest "The Changing Tide". Access the quest given by Small Bertha. After you've completed the quest, you'll receive access to the workshop.

This achievement is missable!

There are a total of four workshop locations in Far Harbor but this achievement only requires you to unlock three of them. In order to actually unlock them, you will need to complete specific side quests tied to that location. Please see below for a breakdown.

Longfellow's Cabin: After traveling to Acadia with Longfellow during the "Walk in the Park" quest, this location will unlock.

Dalton's Farm: On the pier in Far Harbor, speak with Cassie and complete her "Blood Tide" quest to gain access to this location.

National Park Visitor's Center: After completing "Rite of Passage" from Terry, which is triggered after helping Cassie (or Avery or the Mariner), speak with Mitch inside The Last Plank. Completing his quest, "The Hold Out," will unlock this settlement.

Echo Lumber Lake: After completing "Rite of Passage" from Terry, which is triggered after helping Cassie (or Avery or the Mariner), you will gain access to "Turn Back the Fog" from Small Bertha. During this quest, you must refuse Malcolm's request to keep the land yourself in order to gain access to the settlement.

NOTE: This achievement is missable if you do not complete the associated side quests for each settlement before destroying Far Harbor, assuming that's the path you take during "Cleansing the Land."

One of the workshops is located on the northern island in the Dalton estate, on the pier. It will be available when you complete the chain of quests for the woman in the first location (she asks to avenge her relatives). By the way, two settlers will appear there, one of them can be placed on a caravan to any city in the commonwealth.
The second village is Longfellow's house, it will open when you run with it to Acadia.
I got the third workbench while completing a sidequest, the bartender in Far Harbor asks to visit his uncle, the location will be displayed. After talking with your uncle you will be given a workbench and a trophy

The locations are called:
1. Longfellow's Cabin
2. Dalton Farm
3. National Park Visitor Center

The latter opens when completing the quest “Impregnable Walls”, it is offered by the bartender Mitch, you can get it from after scattering meat in the swamp
