How to unlock the Mass Production achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

The item you need can be found in the Workshop Menu under 'Power > Manufacturing > Machinery > Builder'

The Builder requires 2 Circuitry, 3 Gear, 4 Rubber and 10 Steel and is what will be producing your items.

Once built it requires 8 Power to operate. This can be achieved with 3 Small Generators (remember to attach all the wires to the builder).

Once powered simply stand on the side of the Builder and press cn_X to transfer items. Transfer as many junk items as you can and the Builder will automatically produce new items.

I built 3 Builders to run simultaneously and the achievement took about 10 minutes to unlock. You can build as many Builders as you like to unlock this achievement quicker, but if you are running low on resources 1 Builder should take approximately 30-40 minutes.

As always you can make a save before attempting this achievement to reload from, minimising wasted resources. You can also scrap the items that the Builder makes and put them back in the Builder.

Just to add, if you have enough materials and three machines you can sleep for 24 hours and it should build enough items within that time

Nice guide. Was the only one I wasn't sure to do. I amassed a ton of materials over my play time so I did the 3 builder thing as well. Hasn't popped yet but for some reason watching all these steel balls come out is oddly satisfying lol. Weird achievement.

The easiest way to achieve this is make 4 builders that all connect into a square and then make them build "steel balls" (collect a bunch of steel from your settlements)

From here you will only lose 1 steel per ball made (100 steel total) and it will loop itself whilst you go and enjoy the view from a crafted couch listening to Diamond City Radio.

Enjoy guys

You should mention that you can hook up a terminal to the machine to change to different items if you run out of materials for the balls. I made a bunch of Teddy Bears, Toy Trucks, Toy Rockets and Steel Balls for my achievement. Also if the machine doesn't start working straight away after changing the item just switch off the power and turn it back on to get it going again.

I just made ammo. Set it up first, then dumped all my junk into one while I went about to get the other two. Too easy...

@Kickerreed03 Are you powering it? It needs 8 power to turn on. You also need to actually add junk to it (transfer with the X button).

I'm sorry for the downvote, but I don't really build much in this game and only UraMallas' comment got me going. Suggest adding terminal to the guide. Other than that it was perfect.

10 builders, 1 fusion generator, 6000+ steal, and it took me 1 minute and 43 seconds from the time I connected the generator to the builders for the achievement to pop. Solid.

You don't need a terminal unless you want to specify something specific to build.

I put 100 coffee cups in, and it did nothing.

Here is how I got the achievement:
1. Save the game
2. Put 500 steel in a single Builder
3. Wait 10 minutes and the achievement will pop
4. Load your save

I can confirm this works with Vault-Tec Lunchboxes. All you need is to transfer 300 steel (3 to make one box x 100) to the builder. Then activate on a terminal. Should be around 15-20 minutes of waiting then.

Four Builders, one fusion generator, buy a lot of shipments of steel from Diamond City and feed them into each builder, connect a terminal to each of the builders, build lunchboxes and move around a bit so you don't idle. Took a few minutes after the set up.

It must be a problem with Xbox Series X because I don't have the achievement either. Even though I made over 200 items.

Edit: This achievement took hours to unlock, but it finally did.

One steel ball was coming out approximately every 10 seconds for me so should be more like 15 mins if you only have one builder

All my hoarding finally paid off. I had lvl4 science so I built a fusion reactor which produces 100 power and then built 12 builders around it. Picked up all my junk, around ~8500lbs and just dumped it in the 12 builders. The achievement popped in no time so I reloaded my save and continued on.

I can't get anything to happen, either. All are powered. How do I tell it to produce something? It's just sitting there.

EDIT: Okay, you have to make a terminal under Power > Miscellaneous before you can pick what you want to build. Don't put anything in your builders before doing this.

1. Build Builders
2. Build Power Generators to power the builders
3. Build Terminal
4. Use the Terminal to pick what you want to build
5. Put materials needed for whatever you chose to build with the Terminal into the Builders

Kind of important stuff missing from these guides. Downvoted.

For this achievement all you need to do is build a builder and then let it make 100 items. The builder can be found in the workshop by going into power then manufacturing then machinery then you will find the builder.

Once you have built the builder you need to build 3 small generators and a monitor around it so you can power it up. You don't need to attach the monitor to the builder just to a power source that is attached to the builder. You now need to pick what you want to build, you can do that by opening up the computer and I would recommend building what ever you have the most resources in for example I picked the ball because I had loads of rubber.

Now all you need to do is sit back and relax and wait for your machine to build you 100 items, if you run out you can choose something else to build or just refill the machine with the items it just made. It took about 20 minuets in total for the machine to build all of the items but you can speed this up by building more builders to work at the same time but that is up to you as it isn't necessary

If you would like a guide of how to build the builder or a video guide for the whole achievement I have included my video guide below.

Easiest way to do this achievement is to create a series of builders and have them do something basic.

I used Plastic Pumpkins.

Plastic Pumpkins require 4 plastic to produce and create 2 plastic when scrapped.

By placing your builders in a series, every other pumpkin created by the first builder will be turned into a new pumpkin by the second, and so on.

This saves you from having to place materials in multiple builders.

If you don't have a lot of materials to build stuff in the machines, try this method.

Have as much steel as you can possible get.

(There's a lot of steel you can scrap from Sancutary)

Put steel in building machine.

Program terminal to make steel balls.

A steel ball takes 5 steel to make.

When builder is all outta steel to make more balls.

Take all the steel balls.

Drop them on the ground in your settlement.

Scrap them indivualy one by one.

After all of them have been scraped.

Go to settlement's work bench and take out all of the steel that you scraped from the balls.

Put the steel back in the building machine.

Rinse and repeat till you have made 100 steel balls and achievement unlocks.

I hope this method helps, it worked for me.

Just to add something that is not on the above guides and is really helpful especially if you don't have enough steel to create steel balls in the builder (it happened to me).

When you create the builder, also build a terminal next to it.

You need 1 rank in the Hacker perk in order to be able to have access to a terminal from your workshop.

Once you do that, enter the terminal and you will see multiple options of products (junk items) you can build, that needs various types of materials, making things easier. I created bowling pins and teddy bears.

If your builder is not doing anything after you have chosen a new item to be produced, then disconnect the builder from power and connect it again to start producing.

Good luck :)

This is the method I used when unlocking the trophy on the PS4 version. I have yet to get the season pass for the Xbox version and forgot to do so during the last sale.

Materials Needed: 4 Aluminum, 4 Circuitry, 2 Copper, 3 Gears, 6 Rubber, 510 Steel and generators to create 9 Power. Alternatively, 500 Steel can be replaced with 400 Rubber or Plastic or 300 Steel (see "Alternatives" paragraph.)

Hello Sole Survivors,

This achievement is ultimately pretty easy. There are several different builders you can create, each with a different item type focus. For this achievement though I recommend making the "Builder" which is the most basic one and 1 of 4 that does not require any skills to be unlocked, 6 others require different skills.

To make the "Builder" you'll need 2 Circuitry, 3 Gears, 4 Rubber and 10 Steel and it's located in the Power > Manufacturing > Machinery workshop section. It also requires 8 Power so you'll need the appropriate generators as well - 2 Medium generators will suffice and require no additional skills.

You will also need a Terminal to be able to tell the Builder what to make. To make this you'll need 2 Rubber, 2 Copper, 2 Circuitry and 4 Aluminum and it's located in the Power > Miscellaneous section. It also requires 1 Power.

Once everything is hooked up access the Terminal and set the Builder to manufacture "Steel Ball". Put 500 Steel into the Builder and it'll start creating Steel Balls. You do not have to stay around for it to work. The Steel Balls can roll a lot so you might want to build a small fence around the Builder, or one of the other machines this DLC added, to contain them.

Alternatives: I picked Steel Balls because Steel seems to be the easiest material to come by. You can salvage the Steel Balls and get 4 Steel back, possibly more if you have the level 40 Scrapper perk. However there are 2 alternatives that do not use Steel should you prefer. The first one is "Kickball" which uses 4 Rubber each, and gives 3 back, and the other is "Plastic Pumpkin" which uses 4 Plastic each, and gives 2 back. You could also select the "Vault-Tec Lunchbox" which uses 3 Steel each, however they can only be sold, but since they are weightless they're a good way to carry around emergency funds.

If there is any way that I can make this solution better please don't hesitate to let me know.

Build a builder, terminal and large generator. Connect all 3 together. Dump as much steel as you can into. Go to terminal. Create steel balls they take 5 steel to create. Let machine do the work. If you don't have enough steel take the created steel balls you created out scrap them dump the steep back into the builder and repeat

Build the Ammunition Plant and fill it with Lead, Steel and Fertilizer then set it to start making your ammo of choice.

No need to spend materials on useless junk, use it to build useful items instead.

To start off with, SAVE. If you don't already have plenty of resources, press "~" to open up the console command menu. Next type "player.additem 000731A4 999", this is the resource for steel. We're going to make steel balls and it takes 5 Steel to make one ball, hence 999 of steel.

Once you got that taken care of, next pull up the workshop menu and look for a Builder. It would be under Power > Manufacturing > Machinery. Build that, but it requires 8 power to operate so either build three small generators or the fusion core generator. Dealer's choice.

When you have that all completed, dump all the steel into the Builder and wait for about 10 - 15 minutes for the achievement to unlock. If you want, you could setup another Builder to make faster progress. Again, dealer's choice. When done, LOAD up your SAVE if you want or continue on.

Any questions and/or concerns, leave a friendly comment.

I'd also add that you can place a Conveyor Storage connected to your Builder so that you don't have steel balls all over the place or cluttering your inventory.

Builders are found under "Power" => "Manufacturing" => "Machinery", require 8 power and cost:

- Circuitry x2
- Gear x3
- Rubber x4
- Steel x10

Once the Builders have been placed and hooked up to a power supply, you also need to make and hook up a Terminal so you can tell each Builder what to make. Do note though, that rank 1 of the Hacker Perk is needed before a Terminal can be built.

I used the tip linked below to create 3 builders then loaded them up with 1 "Shipment of Steel - 100" each and once they stopped producing, I reloaded the produced "Steel Balls" into the 3 builders and the trophy popped shortly after. The whole process took just over 5 minutes. Source: LINK

Each of the different manufacturing machines can be found in the Workshop Mode menu under "Power > Manufacturing > Machinery." For this achievement, you'll want to focus on using the "Builder." Each of these machines require 2 Circuitry, 3 Gear, 4 Rubber and 10 Steel to build.

To expedite this achievement, it's best to build at least four of these machines next to each other. They will each require eight power to operate, so build however many generators necessary to have all four machines up and running. Once they're powered, you will need to interact with each Builder and transfer over a good amount of "junk items" into each. These junk items are what will automatically produce newly crafted items.

After you've loaded up each of the Builders with junk, simply sit back and wait for ten to fifteen minutes until the achievement unlocks. The more Builders you have loaded up with junk, the quicker this will unlock.

A simple trophy. The machines appeared in Nutrition-Production-Machines, built the very first machine, connected the console and energy, and began producing Vault-Tec lunchboxes. In total, 300 steel was needed, we load the resources into the machine itself.
The machine worked when I was in the settlement; while I was waiting on a chair, the machine did not work.

Came to Century. Built a machine. Loaded all the rubbish into the machine. And he started making steel balls for me, 15 kg each. Accordingly, 100 balls and the trophy is yours

Products at the output of the machine can be disassembled into materials again and loaded into the machine again. The initial 180 steel was enough for me. The output was balls. I took them apart for steel and loaded them again.

By the way, there are a lot of options in the console for what can be produced on the first machine, the consumption of materials is also indicated. I flogged something, couldn’t find 300 steel for the trophy, and made up for the shortage with plastic pumpkins. Requires 4 plastics per 1 piece.

The machine is made in Food - Production - Machines. You also need 8+ energy and Food - Miscellaneous - Terminal.
The easiest way to make balls is that rubber is abundant in many settlements in the form of tires (for example, in the Red Rocket parking lot), and they can be reprocessed into new balls (a new ball - 4 rubbers, disassembling a ball - 3 rubbers).

Save before the trophy so that after receiving the trophy you can roll back to the initial resources.
Next, through the workshop, you place a machine (you can have more than one) in the settlement, supply electricity and load steel into the machine(s).
From 5 pieces of steel you get one ball, which can be disassembled and you get back 4 pieces of steel.
You can simply buy two loads of 250 pieces of steel from a merchant and start production.
You need to stand nearby for the machines to work. After achieving this, simply load the save and resources will not be spent accordingly.
