How to unlock the Raiding for a Living achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

Once you have completed the main quest to meet the gang leaders you can then accept short missions from them.

These are like the repeatable faction ones from the main game and generally involve you killing a target, kidnapping someone or protecting gang members.

You may get offered jobs which conflict with your morals, such as abduct someone from Diamond City. If you do not want a task/don't like it just turn it down and talk to the leader again and they will offer another, randomly generated task. You can find out what's involved by asking what they want and who the target is.

As these take place in the Commonwealth and not Nuka-World it is best to accept one job from each leader simultaneously to cut down on load times. This way it's only 4 trips.

To keep it simple it's best to do this as soon as the game has you meeting all of the leaders.

From cnirnava:

"It should be noted that there is a confirmed glitch which will cause these quests not to trigger / respawn in the current version of the game (v 1.7.12.0.1).

These quests should be available immediately after turning in the one prior.

The glitch (which I can confirm for myself) has to do with certain companions being with you. I had Gage with me. I was able to get the first quest with each gang, but upon turning it in, none of the gang leaders would offer me another one. I proceeded through the storyline checking back after every few sub-quests to see if there was another trigger. Nothing.

If you are effected by this glitch all you need to do is dismiss your companion, fast travel to one of the gang headquarters, and speak with them again. They should offer up a quest then and repeat once you turn it in.

I'm just putting this as a comment instead of a solution because I am sure they will release a patch soon to fix this."

I would assume this is missable if you choose the option to kill all the gang leaders

Yes, as is pretty much all the story achievements. Very poor decision to have a totally one sided story.

After i captured the first area and assigned it to one of the gangs, none of the gang leaders gave me any new jobs. then i captured two more areas and apportioned the areas among the three gangs. after that i could continue accepting orders from the gang members.

Do the settlements for the other achievement count towards this?

I doubt it Fuzzneister J as you are doing that for yourself. The best thing is to do it right away as soon as the game has you meet all of them.

If you get caught putting a collar on someone, don't worry. Just leave the area, hide, then wait awhile for the captured person to leave. Once they leave, and you've gone into hidden, you should be good.

ok. thank goodness and I thought it didn't unlock when I finally reached the 12th SM. For me it was delayed until I checked onsite that it unlocked.

I just finished 12 missions and the achievement did not unlock. My progress was at 0%. Not sure if it has anything to do with having Gage as my companion.

EDIT: Completed the last story mission for this DLC. After completing one more mission, the achievement unlocked. Hopefully this helps.

does the Armoral Combat quests count?

By JoKeRxShoT on 06 Jan 2017 13:04
I am unsure, I wouldn't think so. At any rate it's more productive to get 3 quests then return to the Commonwealth to do them in one trip.

so go to Mags or Mason or Nisha. Run through all dialogue. Then they'll start giving you quests. If you have killed one of the factions, you'll only have two to use. Just FYI in case anyone was confused like me.

Just got this, had Gage with me the entire time and it popped after handing the twelfth one in - I hadn't made any progress in the main story either. So it's probably been patched.

I've done like 15 quests but no achievement...I also reloaded it to an earlier save so I can do the raiders quest line but no mater what I do I can't get this achievement. Does home sweet home need to be done first??

No you do not need to do Home Sweet Home, once you are given the quests to meet the leaders you then do the jobs, get one from each and head back to the Commonwealth to save on trips. If it's not working there is/was a known bug with Gage being an active companion preventing it from working.

Can anyone confirm whether this is done by doing quests for 1 particular faction or by completing them 12 total across them all?

Did 12 quests and it's not unlocking. Don't see it as unlocked anywhere. Have been playing solo the whole time. Guess i'll just keep playing and will update this if it ever unlocks for me.

EDIT: Did another set of quests for the leaders and it unlocked on my 13 turn in. I have no idea which one I did previously didn't count.

Popped for me after 13. I even counted by going through completed quests and looking for "Return to Mags", "Return to Nisha" or "Return to Mason". Not sure why. I travel solo with no companions. Just keep doing the missions if it doesn't pop for you at 12. Great guide for how to get it done, just a glitchy achievement.

Yeah, doing Open Season will stop you from getting most of the achievements. Really the only way to complete the dlc is be a raider. Poor choice as far as I'm concerned as you should be able to choose good or bad, and even better if there's an in-between option, in a Fallout game. The series is know for its choices and freedom so this one is a very strange, perhaps very lazy decision by Bethesda.

TLDR version: Don't do Open Season, do the 12 as soon as you can before doing quests in the rest of the park.

During the "An Ambitious Plan" story quest, Gage will ask that you make your rounds across the park and speak to each of the Raider Gangs: The Disciples, The Operators, and The Pack. When speaking with each of the faction leaders for this quest's objective, you can choose to inquire about side work. These side jobs are the quests you must complete for this achievement.

Each of the gang's quests usually involve killing a target, kidnapping a target, or protecting a group of Raiders from an attack. All of these side quests take place in the Commonwealth, so it's best to accept one job from each leader before heading out. This will limit you to four visits to mainland, thus speeding up the achievement a considerable amount. After completing any twelve of these side quests, the achievement will unlock.

NOTE: As noted in the roadmap, this achievement is technically missable if you choose to complete the "Open Season" side quest, which sees you taking out each gang's leader. This quest is given by Mackenzie, the doctor in the Nuka-Town Market. Take note that killing a gang leader will aggro every raider in the park, failing all story and radiant quests.

I've seen reports of this unlocking with the "CAQS" command but it did not work for me despite trying five different times, including twice after warping inside Nuka-World and using the command there.

So, if that doesn't work for you, try this method instead:

  • "coc NukaWorldNukaTownUSA03"
  • Go inside The Parlor and pick up a quest from Mags.
  • "setobjectivecompleted dlc04_rq_QUESTID 10 1" where you'll replace QUESTID with the... quest ID.
  • Use the Radiant quest list HERE to find the quest IDs.
  • Then do "setstage dlc 04_rq_QUEST ID 100" and turn the quest in to Mags.
As an example, we'll say she gives us the "A Good Defense" quest. You would type "setobjectivecompleted dlc04_rq_defendcache 10 1" and then "setstage dlc04_rq_defendcache 100" and turn it in. Leave the parlor and re-enter to get a new quest, and repeat the same process but obviously typing the appropriate portions in the QUESTID spot. After doing this 12 times the achievement will unlock.

During the quest "An Ambitious Plan", you will go to each of the three faction leaders (Nisha, Mags and Mason) and go through a meet-and-greet. Afterwards you can start doing "sidequests" for them.

Since the quests themselves take you to the Commonwealth, I recommend starting a quest for each leader simultaneously then head out to complete them. Once you have all 3 sidequests completed, return to Nuka-World and turn them in. Rinse and repeat 4 times (3 x 4 = 12).

Three gang leaders give tasks, similar to how the Brotherhood of Steel gave them. We complete 12 quests and have a trophy in our pocket. ATTENTION! To get the trophy, quests must be completed before the park is captured. As soon as we finish the park, quests will become unavailable

Captured the park (Big Tour mission), all the bosses continued to give out tasks.. In any case, on x1 there is no problem described in the tooltip

To put on the collar, you don't have to hit the target at all. If the character is initially hostile, you can sneak up and put on the collar by pressing . If the character is in a positive mood (you need to wear a collar in some bar, for example), then we take you to a room where there is no one, passing an eloquence check for and in the room we speak with a purpose again and pass the eloquence test by clicking in the dialogue . The character will say something like "try on this cool necklace." The task will be completed with a minimum of effort.

The tasks will all be in the Commonwealth, so as soon as you take three at once, move to the Commonwealth. The tasks themselves will be:
1. Meet with a group of your own and kill the attackers. Being a guardian of the BS, I brought down my own, so it turns out, wards, and I got nothing for it
2. Kill someone. Everything is simple here - we clear the location, or take down the target from afar.
3. Attach the collar. If there are a lot of people near the target, then select in the dialogue - Let's go and show you what! (I had charisma 10), and stick around with a goal somewhere. for example, in a bar I just went into the next room and closed the door. There, use your fists to release the target and attach a collar to it.

It’s better to do three boss tasks at a time. And so there will be 4 passes.
