How to unlock the …The Harder They Fall achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

It seems that you have to get the Killing Blow, so you are the one who kills it.
Also the achievement seems to be glitched, like many others, as people are not getting it even if they have killed 5 or more giants. (Mirelurk Queens and Behemoths)

Just found this video - not mine, but I think it's useful.
It's PS4, but the game should be the same.

Credit goes to HarryNinetyFour

There are more then just those in this video.
-At Swans Lake (north of the Combat Zone) there is Swan (Behemoth).
-You find a ML Queen during the Minute Men questline
-You find a Behemoth during the Brotherhood of Steel questline
-You find a ML Queen at Murkwater Construction Site (Thanks to B MAN LIVINLAUT and his solution)
-A ML Queen is on Spectacle Island after you turn the power back on
-A ML Queen is found in the State House
-There is a Behemoth south of Walden Pond

Thanks to all those people in the comments who pointed some things out.

According to the Prima guide, Mirelurk Queens also count. One of these is through the Minuteman quest line.

So I tried again last night as I had a save before the ML Queen. Dropped a bunch of Nuke Mines where she spawned. Heard the bang, didn't even see it pop out of the water, achievement unlocked :)

So Mirelurk Kings count as-well? Or only Queens? I know I killed 3/4 Behemoths and 2/3 Queens.

As a note if you complete the Liberty Prime mission where he burns a hole to the Institute, afterwards you can find the two Behemoths in the same area along the path Prime takes. For some reason all Behemoths, Synths and Raiders respawned.

Only Queens.
I finally got it after killing all those in this video, the ones in the MM and BoS questlines and the one from the other solution.

I took my "Big Boy" and nuked them away without any companion.

Does it count if the mysterious stranger shows up and kills them while you're in v.a.t.s.? So far both Mirelurk Queens I've killed have been due to the mysterious stranger.

Can't tell for sure, but as far as I know, he counts as "you", so it shouldn't be a problem. To be safe though, I would try it without him.
Or just nuke them without V.A.T.S.

i killed 4 today, the behemoth during the BoS quest, the swan and 2 ML queens (state house and murkwater) this is after having killed the ML queen from the minutemen quest line a couple of days ago.. No achievement so i decided to go for one more, which made it 5 in one sitting, so I went for the one on spectacle island, killed it achievement unlocked.

Behemoth SE of Shaw High which is E of Fallon's Dept. Store. In the fens near a church full of mutants. Thanks DG et. al.

Popped after 4 in playthrough 2 so it must have counted the MLQ from the Minuteman quest in my first playthrough but not counted the Behemoth S of Walden Pond when I killed it again in pt 2. So for the second time. If that makes sense. Just guessin. Can anyone confirm?

Great guide but you may want to add that even if you are not doing the Minuteman Quest where you have to liberate the Castle you can still go there and kill most of the Mirelurks & Eggs and the Mirelurk Queen will spawn naturally. No need to do the MM quest if you're just looking to get this one

It seems to be bugged. So far I have killed Swan , the ML queen in the minutemen questline , the ML queen on Spectacle Island , the Behemoth at Walden's Pond , the one at Fort Strong and one random one in the West of the Commonwealth but still no achievement :/

By Nyancat7 on 04 Jan 2016 23:09
I agree with Nyancat that this one is buggy. I have killed seven giants and no cheev. Could not tell if I had the "killing shot" on all of them, but am fairly sure the bulk of the damage came from my weapons. Why would Bethesda bother with complicated coding for something trivial like this? Why not "you do some damage and it dies--it counts as a kill" instead.

Super bugged on Xbox X, I've killed all these Behemoths and even did a couple MQueen, plus the MQeen in the storyline. Literally one of the last trophies I have left. Kind of bullshit. I started this game with game breaking bugs, and just when things were getting good, I'm ending the game with an annoying bug.

Better do this in one shot, otherwise the game will not register you killed these giant creatures. For me at least. I kill a Behemoth in your video before. Then I followed this video and killed the other 4 creatures. Achievement didn't pop. Then I followed the second solution where the Mierlurk queen is, and killed her. I got this achievement. I killed the huge special Deathclaw in Museum of Witchcraft and Mierlurk queen in the Castle before, it seems they also didn't count if I didn't do it in one shot.

If you have the Vault-Tec Workshop DLC, there is a ML Queen in Vault 88

Also, if you go with the BOS ending, when you are following Liberty Prime, there is a Behemoth on the way...thats how I got it to pop!!!

Great Guide, plus one from me!!

Edit: Actually there are 2 Behemoths on the way to the Institute......

A helpful tip for later on down the road:

If you unlock the Settlement "Murkwater Construction Site" A Mirelurk Queen will spawn there. I don't know if it will be there everytime that you fast travel there, but of all the times that I have, there has been one there.

Location:
External image

*EDIT* - You may have to wait in game days for the queen to re-spawn. [Thank you to: lLeXXuzl for the heads up] Travel to different settlement [Sanctuary Hills, Prydwen, so on] and sleep for a few days. (I've noticed sleeping can go allot faster if you're in a pace with less stuff, and you've just loaded up the game.)

*EDIT** I appologize for the previous image I had for this solution before this edit, I changed it to just lead to an Imgur page.

For this Achievement you have to kill 5 giant creatures in Fallout. Giant creatures are Behemoth and Mireluck Queen Enemies. During the Story you can kill 1 or 2 giant creatures. In the world of Fallout 4 you will find many more. I show you in my video below 10 locations with giant creatures.

The Achievement is still glitched for some user. Here are 2 hints for you, kill all 5 giant creatures in one gamingsession and make sure you have always the killing blow!

Another good hint is, use a power armor. With a power armor you have much more defense and you can longer fight without problems against the giant creatures.

Make sure the combat difficulty is set to Very Easy to ensure the quickest kill.

You will find two giant creatures during the story. One is a Behomoth you find in the Brotherhood of Steel questline. Once you've defeated this Behemoth, make sure you join the Minute Men and defeat the ML queen. Then, head over to Swan's Lake and approach the white swan to reveal Swan (a Behemoth). It's located southwest of Goodneighbor and east of Hubris Comics in the main metropolis. After that, head south of Suffolk County Charter School to find an ML Queen at Murkwater Construction Site. On the east side of the map on Spectacle Island, you'll find another ML Queen. To access it, you need to turn the power back on at the boat on the southern end and the central hut with a communications tower. That should be your final one. If you haven't joined the Minutemen yet, there's another ML Queen found deep within the State House.

Note: You MUST get the kill shot on the Super Mutant Behemoth/Mirelurk Queen for it to count as one of them 5. This is why the ones you fight during quests are not guaranteed kills towards the trophy, as you fight them with multiple people and can get killed by them even though you shot it too.

Giant creatures consist of Super Mutant Behemoths and Mirelurk Queens, these enemies are rare and usually have a spawn location. Once you have killed one of them then it'll be dead for good and never respawn. You can encounter some through faction quests and there are 6 in the commonwealth freeroam. You will encounter two Behemoths in the Brotherhood of Steel storyline and you will encounter a Mirelurk Queen in the Minutemen questline, you have to kill these anyway to progress with the quest.

The 5 Behemoths shown in this video are all in free roam and you can go and get them at any time. I highly recommend you have either a Missile Launcher or a Fat Man (or legendary/modded variants of the two). Behemoths are one of the toughest enemies in the game so you need big firepower to kill them. They also drop good weapons and Swan, the named Behemoth, drops a unique legendary quality Power Fist:

For any of the listed giant creatures below you need to secure the killing blow otherwise it will not count toward this achievement. Also note that there is no tracking in-game to follow this as well.

  • Four Behemoths located throughout the map. Their locations will be coming up soon.
  • Mirelurk Queen - Taking Independence Quest (MinuteMen, taking the Castle)
  • Swan - Swan's Pond (Northeast of Diamond City. Near Combat Zone/Boston Common)

Thanks to PowerPyx for the video.

You have to kill creatures in the wild for this achievement rather than spawning them from thin air, but you can quickly warp to the locations. Use the commands below to find five giant creatures, and spawn yourself a Big Boy rocket launcher to take them out ("player.placeatme 0021a53e"). With god mode enabled ("tgm") you won't get hurt from the explosion and have unlimited ammo.

  • coc swanspondext (Kill the behemoth Swan)
  • coc POIBryanB01 (Mirelurk Queen)
  • coc SuffolkCountycharterschoolext (behemoth wandering just NW of your spawn point)
  • coc WaldenPondext (behemoth wandering just south of your spawn point)
  • coc SpectacleIslandext (spawn a Mirelurk Queen by powering on the boat on the southern shore)

When traveling you will encounter them, kill 5 of them. According to the plot, there will be 1 at the very beginning.

According to the plot of the game, there will be a couple of Monsters in the mission “Ad Victoria” (if you play as the Brotherhood of Steel). The main thing is to have time to shoot at them a little before Liberty Prime kills them.

Only those whom you finished off (those who fired the finishing shot) count towards the score.
So tips in the style of just shooting at them during the brotherhood mission became a utopia. You still have to take the finishing shot.

Here is a list of where you can find them.
1. West of Suffolk County private school, has level 50;
2. West of Natick Banks on the territory of the power plant (keep in mind there are 2 more death claws there for company);
3. East of Med-Tek Research, appears when taking the moon monkey Jangles from the car, has level 50;
4. In the triangle between Arcjet Systems, the Federal Food Depot and Walden Pond, built from car bodies in the style of Stonehenge;
5. West of the Teta reconnaissance bunker, walks along the river, can come quite close to the entrance to the bunker;
6. Periodically appears in the center of Lexington on the main square - when the GG rises to the freeway near the Corvega plant;
7. Also, two Monsters appear in the final mission of the main quest for the Brotherhood of Steel;
