How to unlock the Vault Dweller achievement in Fallout 4 - Definitive Guide

For this achievement, you have to follow the "A Model Citizen" quest line so you can reach the point where Vault 88 can start receiving settlers from the Wasteland. After interviewing the third settler, Clem, trade with him and give him a Pip Boy and a Vault 88 jumpsuit from the box near the entrance of the Vault. After you give him the Pip Boy and EQUIP the jumpsuit on Clem, the achievement should unlock!

I've put everyone in the vault in a jumpsuit & given them a pipboy yet no achievement. Something I'm missing here?

I would try restarting your game, reloading an earlier save and trying again, further progress in the quest line in hopes it will unlock, or wait a couple days and see if the achievement is glitched for you.

Yeah, reloaded a save & got it. Had to give him the pipboy first, didn't work if I gave him the suit first.

Definitely something funny with this achievement, I've tried Vault Suit first and then Pip Boy first but it still won't unlock.

Edit: So I managed to get it to work by transferring more than one Pip Boy. One went onto his wrist and the rest into his inventory. Must be a weird bug somewhere.

Glitched out on me, tried everything mentioned here, still no achievement.

I've competed all questlines for this DLC, any help will be appreciated.

Yep glitched for me too, completed all quests, tried giving pip boy first, tried reloading old save, giving multiple pip boys, nothing works, guess I'll be waiting for a patch!

Same glitch occurred in my game. I gave the Pipboy to Clem but it just remained in his inventory. Same problem with the other 2 candidates. Fortunately I had saved the game on a regular safe file just 3 minutes before starting the interview. Reloading did the trick for me. Only thing I did differently was to pick up some new pipboys from the welcome box after the interview was over. First time I used some that I had found earlier. Don't know if it has something to do with the glitch, though. It's just a speculation.

I did what samsaBEAR did and just put 2 or 3 pip boys in Clem's inventory and it worked. No need to reload a save!

Here is what worked for me. I traded the Vault 88 suite to Clem first and equipped it on him. Then I exited the trading screen. Next I did a another trade with Clem and gave him three pip-boys. As soon as I exited the second trade with Clem the Achievement popped.

Thanks PSYCHO SELBY, that worked for me. Clem actually equipped the first of the 3 pip boys I gave him. After quitting the game and trying again.

Best way if you gave clem vault suit then pip boy and it does not work. go pick up all the 20 pip boys near the entrance and give it all to him and this will eventually pop the achievement for you that is how I dont mine. Hope it helps :)

I know it's a bit late for most of you, but I think the Pip-Boy has to come from one of the small Pip-Boy crates (there is one next to the Vault 88 trunk that you find the Vault 88 Jumpsuit in). As soon as I equipped one of those the achievement popped - nothing when trying to use the ones I found in the trunk. Hope this helps.

In the quest for settlers in the vault, you will get 3 options. I am assuming all the NPCs in this mission are the same. You will get a shady girl, a shady guy, and Clem.

I noticed when I gave the pip boy to the other settlers, they did not pop on their wrists like they did for clem. So for the cheevo, I would give it to Clem first. It should pop then.

I wonder if the glitch has something to assigning resources to positions in the vault? Like idle resources don't get pip boys

When you start the inverviews finish them all 3 when you get to Clem.
Then grab the Pipboys and Vault Suits from the crate and give them to Clem.

Some poeple say it's glitched. Give the pipboy first then the vault suit and equip the suit.
See the video for example you can't go wrong.

So this video actually helped a bit, for some reason when I give Clem the Pip Boy he doesn't wear it, it just sits in his inventory. I'm pressing Y but it won't equip, it just stays there unlike in the video where it goes from his inventory and sits on his wrist.

I can confirm it glitched on me. Just got the "Oversight" achievement, so "Vault Dweller" is the last for me to get on this DLC.

Tried to reload a previous save. Tried to give a settler/Clem more than one Pip Boy and neither of these worked. I'm stuck on this one.

Fallout 4 got many problems not only with achievements. Also with the disc. I just changed my Xbox one for Xbox One S. When I put in the fallout 4 disc it redirects me to the store where they ask me to pay 70 euro :) all other games are working fine. Xbox Support is investigating. So anyone thinking about changing xbox and want to play fallout 4 maybe wait :)

this achievement is definetely glitched. i could not equip the pip boy, no matter how many Pib Boy's i transfered. i tried with the other guy and he equipped Pip Boy and suit but no achievement. finally it unlocked with the female settler but Clem refuse to wear the pip boy:(
good luck everyone having trouble unlocking this simple achievement.

My game glitched but I've managed to get it to pop.

I gave Clem 25 Pipboys and I noticed that when I did the number quickly adjusted in his inventory to 23. It was like it needed more than 1.

I could see it had worked straight away as it appeared on his arm. I don't know if this will help anyone else but it got around my glitch.

For this achievement you need to give a suit and pit boy to a settler at vault 88 you won't be able to do this until you have completed the the quest explore the vault. which you will get by following the DLC's quest line. Once you have completed that quest you will return to the overseer interviewing 3 possible subjects for her plan, the first 2 wont help but the 3rd one will become her subject and at the point the overseer asks you to suit him up and will tell you to collect the pit boy and the suit to give to him. Once you give him the items the achievement will pop.

*WARNING* This achievement seems to have glitched for a lot of people the best way I found to make sure it doesn't glitch is by giving him the pit boy first and make sure its only one, the give him the suit again making sure to only give him one, and then equip the suit and leave the trade screen. I can confirm my game did glitch at first but doing it that way allowed me to get the achievement. Just to be sure I would make a save before giving him any items.

If you would like a video guide for this achievement check out my guide bellow.

You can unlock this as soon as you enter Vault 88.

After entering the vault gate you’ll see a blue stash box on the right with jump suits and pip-boys in the very first room with a ghoul in it.

I gave one of each to Piper then equipped the suit on her and the Achievement unlocked.

Only issue is the Pip-Boy disappears in her inventory afterward. There was no way to get it back.

This is a very easy achievement. At the entrance of the vault, there is a box of supplies with 10 vault suits and 10 pip boys. Turning on the beacon will attract people to the vault. Once you have some dwellers, simply take the suits and the pip boys out and equip your dwellers.

The easiest dweller to do this with is obviously Clem since giving him the vault suit is a requirement. Put both the vault suit and the pip boy in his inventory. The pip boy will be automatically equipped, but you will have to make sure he equips the suit. Once he has both items in his inventory and is actually wearing the vault suit, you'll get this achievement.

You can also equip the suit and the pip boy to a settler in one of your settlements on the surface. The settler does not need to be inside a vault.

After interviewing Clem, you will be given the quest "Power to the People" and will initially be asked to put him in a Vault suit. The Vault 88 suits and Pip-boys can be found in the same blue crate near where the interview was conducted (which is to your right from where you entered the vault initially).

To equip them on a "settler" (e.g. Clem) simply talk to one and a trade screen will pop up. Give them the suit and Pip-boy. Note that after giving them the items, you also have to equip the suit with whilst in the trade screen and selecting the suit.

After completing "Explore Vault 88," you should continue working on "A Model Citizen." During this quest you will conduct three interviews with Overseer Barstow for potential Vault residents. Once the final interview is done, grab the Vault 88 Jumpsuit on the nearby trunk and check inside said trunk for additional suits and Pip-Boys.

You can now speak with your new resident, Clem, and ask to trade items. Here, you can give him a Pip-Boy (found under your Misc. tab) and a Vault 88 Jumpsuit (found in the Apparel tab). Make sure to actually equip the Jumpsuit and the achievement will unlock.

Vault 88 jumpsuits and Pip-Boys are in boxes in the shelter itself. We transfer it to the settler through “exchange” and click use. It is enough to dress up one settler.
