Return to the Whitespring Bunker and once inside go towards the Enclave military wing. Since you have earned the rank of General, you can now access the Whitespring Command Center.

Head up the stairs and explore your new command center! You will notice attached to the command center through the doorway on the right is the Enclave Armory. Here you can purchase enclave weapons like the Enclave Officer Plasma Pistol or the X-01 Prototype power armor.

After exploring the command center while listening to a monologue by MODUS, he will instruct you to turn your attention to the 4 Posters against the north wall of the main room. Each poster represents a different step you will need to take in order to launch a nuke in Appalachia. While learning the process is an optional objective of the mission, if this is your first go trying to launch nukes, it is recommended you take the time to listen what MODUS has to say, otherwise you can talk to one of the terminals located in the command center to skip this step.

*Step 2 & 3 isn’t required if the current weeks Launch Code has already been solved. You can check here.

https://nukacrypt.com/solved

STEP 1: Obtain a Nuclear Keycard

To launch a nuke, you must first obtain a nuclear keycard. Since you earned the rank of General, you have access to a number of tools to help locate on through the Enclave. Accessing the Surveillance System Terminal In the east corner of the room will give you a number of options to locate the necessary parts to launch a nuke but the first one you will want to locate it the Nuclear Keycard Escort. Once you initiate this search from the terminal, you will get a marker on your map with the location of the escort.

Try to track the escorts movements so you take the best path to intercept it, as the marker will constantly move, following the moving escort. Take down the escort and you will be rewarded with a nuclear keycard.

Step 2: Gain All nuclear Codes (any Silo)
Once you obtain a keycard, you will then need to find all 8 Pieces of an encrypted launch code. Each code fragment will have a letter and a number attached to it. If you decided to do the optional portion of searching the archives for more information about code encryption, you will learn these codes and letters do not intend to spell anything, but the letters are coded.

The Surveillance System terminal can help you locate pieces of the codes by narrowing down the last known location of the officer that carries them. You may have also stumbled across pieces during your travels across Appalachia as well, but surveillance system access will speed up this process exponentially.

Step 3: Decrypting Launch Codes

Get all 8 code pieces, for example:
R6 A6 C3 F5 J6 N0 T2 W3

Next you'll need a code-word for the cipher, like: WHITEBOARDS

The code-words can be found In the Enclave bunker's military wing after you become a general and gain access to the top floor. The 3 boards on the wall slowly reveal pieces of the code-word over the course of a week until the codes and code-words reset.

Once you have that take the alphabet and remove all the letters in the code word (which is WHITEBOARDS)

giving you this:

__C__FG__JKLMN_PQ___UV_XYZ

The underscores are just to show what's missing, so you'll really want it like this

CFGJKLMNPQUVXYZ

Now you put the code-word at the beginning so you get

WHITEBOARDSCFGJKLMNPQUVXYZ

This is the alphabet that the code pieces use
To elaborate W=A, H=B I=C and so on

So, now that we have the encoded alphabet, we take the letters from the code pieces and convert them into their proper form, so

R A C F J N T W
becomes
I H L M O S D A

We now have the proper letters, but they are scrambled. Using either an unscrambler, or your own anagram skills, these letters can be unscrambled into the word:
HALIDOMS

So now we can use this unscrambled word to get the actual launch code.
write out the unscrambled word first

H A L I D O M S
Then write the letters equivalents underneath (From the encoded alphabet from earlier)

H A L I D O M S
A W C R T J F N

Finally, add in the numbers for each associated encoded letter (The numbers from the code pieces)

H A L I D O M S
A W C R T J F N
6 3 3 6 2 6 5 0

And there you go, the launch code for this example is 63362650

Step 4: Fight to Launch the Nukes

You may be a general, have a nuclear keycard, and all the essential code pieces but even so, launching a nuke will be no easy task. The automated defenses of the silo are still very active and very tough. Unless you have a misileer to guide you (all of which are long gone in post apocalyptic Appalachia) the automated defenses will attack on sight.

Being mostly level 50 Assualtrons and sentry bots, you should come prepared for a fight. Bringing a group is obviously the ideal solution.

Step 5: Explore the nuclear fallout

Once you access the launch system and break the encryption on the launch codes, you will be able to select the location of the nuclear explosion. When the nuke hits the target and explodes, if you have the right gear you may now explore the fallout and fight high level mutated enemies. This will reward you with plenty of high level loot.

Launching the Nuke on Fissure Site Prime will start the Scorched Earth Event where you need to defeat a Level 95 Scorchbeast Queen and will get you the Scorched Earth Achievement..There is a guide here
Fallout 76Scorched EarthThe Scorched Earth achievement in Fallout 76 worth 68 pointsWin the "Scorched Earth" Event

NOTE: The Nuclear Silo code pieces will expire after One Week. If you fail to collect all 8 code pieces before a week, you will have to re-collect any codes that have expired.

Video explains how to Decrypt the Launch code and launch the nuke which again you don’t need to decrypt it if the code is already solved.

I can confirm you can do it solo. its just very hard. 5 major rooms full of hostile robots trying to kill you

Its actually not that hard when you are Lvl +50. Btw.. the Silos are actually a pretty good grind spot for terminal hack achievement!

“This quest can’t be completed without three of your friends online”. Not sure what you mean by this, but you can be solo in a game and fire a nuke, you just have to have all codes in your own inventory.

If you are doing this solo:
--I was level 87 and it was still pretty tough solo
--minigun or laser gatling etc highly recommended, plasma grenades/mines helpful too
--have hack level 2 to deactivate the turrets in most of the rooms
--bring plenty of stimpaks
--I did site Charlie, if you die far along in the bunker you spawn alllll the way back and the elevator door
--there are many Colonel Gutsys, Assaultrons, and Robotrons
--https://nukacrypt.com/solved was huge help in avoiding decrypting the launch code

I can't tell you how many tries this took me...
Random crashes halfway through - server disconnects - one time i entered the bravo code at site charlie and was locked out, had to go get a new nuclear card. That one was on me ;)

Finally got this last nite, and could not have without this guide, and the pointer to the nukacrypt site - THUMB WAY UP from this gamer.

Just an update, I got this while on a public team. I did not do anything towards dropping a nuke. I assume someone else on my team did but honestly it could've been someone in the server. It always announces "Death from Above" quest started and completed but the achievement obviously didn't unlock before.

Just did this solo, I'm level 56. I can't stress enough how much easier it was on my 2nd run where I got level 3 lockpick/hacker and used the turrents to kill a load of the robots first before I picked the rest off with 2/3 star laser/plasma gatlings. I barely had to use 1 stim, after on my first run through, I burned through all my chems and ammo.

In reference to Facedog's comment, I think it can unlock if someone else in your team launches a Nuke, specifically. I've had plenty of nukes launch since I've had the quest, but just had the achievement unlock while in a team.

I also just got this while on a public team. I had completed Officer on Deck and then someone launched a nuke and I got the quest completion. If you've started this quest but are in no hurry to finish it, you can just join high-level public teams and hope someone launches a nuke.

I did it in a simple and quick way. There are 3 silos on the map, you have to be clear where they are located. Now you have to start searching from session to session until you find a public team in the silo. When you have found it pray that there is a place in it. If there is, enter it quickly and when the team drops the bomb, the ahievement will pop up

Was finishing off the Officer on Deck achievement, about to head back to MODUS & the Bunker, when our favourite *ping* sounded! Somehow, without even needing go to through all of the above steps, this achievement popped!?!

Guess I need to watch some YouTube videoes to find out how to launch a nuke myself now! Now if this would only happen for the Fallout Forever achievement! At level 276 and nothing yet ... thanks a lot Bethesda!
Ouch.. I had the level 10 achievement do that but the level 100 would hurt. Unfortunately you'll probably have to create a new character for that one.

You can skip the repair pipes part and anything else optional.

This was the second hardest / tedious achievement I've come across in all the Fallout games that have achievements.

If anyone needs key cards on the seasonal rewards you can unlock 5 x nuclear key cards for 5 gold tickets but you have to be seasonal rank 7. I messed my first one up by entering the wrong code and usedmy only keycard (noob) so if anyone accidentally does the same and you haven't claimed the reward it will save the hassle of shooting down another cargobot.

Lol, this is the perfect example why so many design decisions on making this multiplayer were terrible ideas.
I went through a silo solo, not sure if they all have the same phases but I had to register a biocard & fix leaks in a reactor. Then a group of power armour guys come running, do the last horde mode phase with me, and rushes the control to launch the nuke. And of course I cannot use it myself after that. Time & bullets wasted. Thanks Bethesda. Superb design.

Does anyone know what the "point of no return" is for any of these story based quests? I know its still kinda early after release, but I'm assuming that once you advance past a certain point in a storyline with a certain faction, it closes other quests with the other factions right? At least it did in previous Fallout titles...

Hey OP could you not highlight that you most likely don’t need to get the ghoul codes - the link you have provided will most likely have the code.

Also I strongly recommend you do this with a group. I wasted well over an hour when my game disconnected and I was jumped from the world and deposited back in a new one. At least in a group you rejoin with your tream.

Defo worth an upvote.

NOTE: The Nuclear Silo code pieces will expire after One Week. If you fail to collect all 8 code pieces before a week, you will have to re-collect any codes that have expired.

Story related and can not be missed. See here for more info.

Note: This achievement is tied to launching a nuke, which you can combine with the Scorched Earth (30G) achievement by launching the nuke on Fissure Site Prime and defeating the Scorchbeast Queen. It is also worth noting that you can skip a HUGE part of this quest by going to the NukaCrypt website and seeing if the week's nuclear launch codes have already been decrypted and simply using those rather than going through the long process of figuring it out yourself.

Type: Main Quest
Recommended Character level: 50+
Prerequisites: Complete quest "Officer on Deck"

This is the final main quest of the game and where you learn how to fire off a Nuke! You'll need to head back to the Whitesprings Bunker and enter the Military Wing. From there you'll take a right and go through the laser grid that has the “Command” label above its door. You'll head upstairs and need to use the four terminals to learn how to nuke.

  1. Step 1: Obtain a Nuclear Keycard. You get these from shooting down a vertibird
  2. Step 2: Obtain the Launch Codes. You can do this manually or visit: Nuke Codes for the codes of that week. Codes are only good for one week!
  3. Step 3: Fighting at the Silos to launch the nuke. These silos are still very active and all contain level 50 enemies. You'll need a group or need to be highly powerful to go it solo.
  4. Step 4: Launch!

Final story mission. Walking alone is not recommended. Only highly pumped and with a mountain of stimulants.
A mission is issued in the Enclave, where the process of launching missiles will be explained. First you need to gather what you need. To make searching easier, you can track what you need from the Enclave terminal (in the command center). Just one thing at a time!
To start you need:
1) Find the launch map (Shot down the flying drone)
2) Code fragments (Burnt officers)
Important: Decide in advance which launch mine you will go to (Alpha, Beta or Charlie) and collect codes specifically for the selected mine.
3) Decipher the code. (Or use the forums where current codes are posted. Codes change every week)
I express my gratitude to the user lavr777rus for the current code in a special topic on the forum.
4) Go to the mine. This is the most difficult part. Robots of all stripes will be endlessly spawning at the location. What to do in the mine itself will be written. The main thing is that you have enough life and ammunition to shoot endless enemies of levels 20 - 50 while you run around the complex. Therefore, a minimum of 3-4 people is recommended. I went through it myself with a friend, but this was the style of all the accumulated resources.
You'll eventually end up in the launch room. We insert the card and manually enter the current code.
We select a place on the map (with the exception of the vicinity of Vault 76) and launch the rocket.
Congratulations, you have become death!

In the bunker, the most important thing is to immediately turn off the turrets at the terminals, otherwise they can get badly damaged. Please note that each individual combat zone has its own turrets and its own terminal.
You can also go solo (I completed it at level 80), but it’s very difficult to repair all the pipes in the reactor alone and protect five robotic engineers at the same time.

You can go solo, but at level 100+. I finished 115th, without any build, but with cards for shotgun damage and the shotgun itself, of course. I spent about 1200 rounds of ammunition and about 60 stimulants, so get ready to get burned in Solyanova, but it’s possible to get through. The most important thing is to drain the turrets, because in the future they will interfere if you suddenly die and run from the very beginning of the complex.

Cleared one at level 72
There was nothing complicated.
There were 80 stimpacks, after finishing 70, I mean before the reward for Finishing the quest.
I used Power Armor and melee weapons, and did not pick up cards.
I simply ran through the first corridors, repaired the reactor, but then I had to clean up where 15 computer cores needed to be repaired. About 8-9 pieces can be found simply ready-made, but 6-7 will have to be repaired.
