How to unlock the Monet of Murder achievement in Fallout 76 - Definitive Guide

Modding my legendary baseball bat’s color from Oak to Gray costed only 3 wood. Just keep changing the color back and forth until achievement pops.

I've seen two bats in the display case in the long hallway downstairs at the Whitesprings Golf Course. Scrap these at your Workbench to hopefully get a color mod. ( There's usually a bobblehead there, too, between two small picture frames.)

Good solution. +1 From me. However, you should add that you need the Makeshift Warrior Rank 2 Perk to be able to change the wood. Also a location of a bat wouldn't hurt. One location is at Morgantown High School by some lockers in a hallway near the gym.

A much cheaper way to do this. If you have the Tricentennial paint and a laser rifle, you can go back and forth applying the the tricentennial and then the standard paint. Best of all it only require 1 oil.

I bought the croquet mod for the sledgehammer from the atom store (I think was like 600 atom?) - anyway applying it for like 2 wood, removing and repeating

This was an awesome find. I already knew exactly where you were talking about from the mention of the Bobble Head.

Fallout 76Monet of MurderThe Monet of Murder achievement in Fallout 76 worth 82 pointsMod 50 Weapons

This Achievement Requires you to craft 50 weapon mods.

There's actually a super simple way to get this. You can actually use the same mod on the same weapon over and over until this pops.

You do this by selecting the mod (will give an example), crafting the mod, then selecting "No Upgrade", and them modding the weapon the same way again.

For example, I had plans for a Combat Knife, which takes very little resources to craft first of all. I then modded it for "Serrated Blade".

Component breakdown:
The Combat Knife Takes: 1 Adhesive, 1 Gear, 2 Rubber, and 3 Steel
The "Serrated Blade" Mod Takes: 1 Adhesive, 1 Fiberglass, and 3 Steel (Requires "Makeshift Warrior 2" Perk Card)

So in total, starting from 0 modded weapons this will only take you:
51 Adhesive, 50 Fiberglass, 153 Steel, 1 Gear and 2 Rubber, which is all very obtainable.

Using this method will definitely be the most economical way to do this, without costing you too many materials.

Note: you will need the Plan for this, but it's easy to obtain or you could use a weapon you already have the plans for, there are plenty of "Serrated Blade" capable weapons that are far more common. And obviously, component requirements will vary based on the weapon you use. But it definitely seems melee weapons, specifically bladed, are the way to go.

Don't know if this was just a glitch for me but for this i crafted a lvl 1 combat knife and then went into mod and selected no upgrade and there were 2 options for no upgrade so i just kept switching between the 2 no upgrade options till the achievement unlock. no need to use resources other then what was needed to craft the knife in the first place.

(9/4/23) Found a simple way of unlocking this without spending any materials - COMPLETELY FREE. All you need to do is complete the Spin the Wheel event which spawns frequently down at the bottom right side of the map (Cranberry Bog). Upon completion you will be awarded with a weapon called ''Whacker Smacker''. Go to your nearest Weapons Workbench and select Modify/Repair, ''Whacker Smacker'', Whacker Smacker Paint, and keep changing between Whacker Smacker and Standard Appearance. You should get to 50 in 2 - 3 mins.

You can track your progress by selecting: Map, Menu, Challenges, Combat, Scroll down to Mod Weapons, Press Y to Track.

To get the Monet of Murder Trophy.

Head to the Whitespring Golf Club and head downstairs.
Pick up both baseball bats in the back hallway.
Fast Travel to your base of operations.
Scrap one of the baseball bats
If you don't get a color mod, you will have to return back to the golf club to pick up the bats again on a different server.
Then start modding the second bat with the color and remove it.
Once you hit the 50 times, the trophy/Achievement will pop.
You need to have the Makeshift Weapons Perk card enabled.
It should cost you 150 wood scraps to complete the trophy from the beginning.

You can watch my video for help.

Thanks

In order to mod weapons you have to have acquired the mod plans from looting in the world, quest rewards or buying them from vendors. Once you've unlocked modifications for the weapons you own you can go into your Weapon Workbench and apply those modifications so long as you have the required loot and required perk card (if applicable.)

A lot of the nicer modifications on the higher level weapons will require certain perk cards to be activated.

Modding a weapon first requires a plan, which you can find by scrapping a similar weapon that had a mod attached to it. Once you get a mod, and have a weapon it can be applied to, you'll need to make sure you have materials for it by scrapping anything and everything in the game world. Some mods (such as paint jobs) can be removed after they are applied, so doing one of these and removing it/re-applying it over and over is the quickest way to get this.

If you can craft a Combat Knife, you will likely see that there is a section when you modify it where "No Upgrade" is listed twice. By selecting one and then the other over and over, this will unlock in mere minutes without using any crafting materials. This is likely a bug and I will remove this part of the guide if they choose to fix it.

The statistics take into account any weapon and any modification.
Have you collected guns and clubs to disassemble for rubbish? Before doing this, make modifications for everyone. And the trophy will not be long in coming.

You can alternately install two cheap modifications on one weapon until you receive the trophy. The simplest are smoothbore pistols or rifles; they have modifications that cost 2-3 steel and 2-3 wood. We installed a modification, immediately changed it to another, then returned the first one, etc.
