How to unlock the Pioneer Scout achievement in Fallout 76 - Definitive Guide

Discover 100 new locations in the Appalachians and the achievement will unlock. This achievement will probably come naturally as you progress through the game and you won't have to go out of your way to get it.

You will see undiscovered location icons on your hud radar/compass as an empty outline. Once discovered, the location icon will be solid. A location will register as discovered when you move close enough to it. Several locations contain enemies. If you do not wish to engage in combat, you can sneak up close enough to the location to unlock it, and with some luck, not alering the enemies.

Once unlocked, a location will function as a fast travel or respawn point. Fast travel to or respawning at a location it will coast different amounts of caps depending on the distance to the location. Fast travel to or respawning at your own C.A.M.P. will always be free of charge so be sure to put up a camp even though you don't intend to use it.

Discovering new locations give you XP, so discovering them is a great way to net some easy XP while out exploring the Appalachians.

Is it just me, or do you have to get really close to locations to trigger discovery in Fallout 76 compared to previous games? I assume they've tightened boundaries to accommodate for the restrictions for where you can put your C.A.M.P.

Count the locations on your map. They will be blue.

As you move throughout the wasteland, you will see icons on your radar that are "hollow" looking which indicate a location you have not discovered yet. Once you get close enough to these, they will become discovered and show solid on the radar. There are more than 100 total locations, all of which can be found here, but you only need to find 100 to unlock the achievement. You'll get a decent amount of experience and they will now be available as a fast travel point once discovered, so it is well worth the time to go out of your way a bit on the way to a quest marker.

This will come naturally as you progress through the game. There are well over 100 locations.

See the Resources section of this guide for maps of each area of Appalachia.

You could say it's a plot trophy. Got to level 30. Given for 100 open locations. When you enter some city, village, or detached house, you see a system message “A new location “Top of the World” has been opened,” for example, and you get 25 or more experience for this.
