How to unlock the Eureka! achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

Before embarking on this final battle for Hoover Dam, make sure you've done everything you want to do with your current character.

This is the final mission if aligned with the NCR. After completing "You'll Know It When It Happens" and "For The Republic" you will be prompted to begin this mission. There is no turning back once you start.

If you have any companions with you that are aligned with enemy factions, they will leave your side (ie Veronica will leave you if you are fighting against the Brotherhood of Steel).

There will be a particular NCR Ranger (sometimes he has a hat, other times not) in the Visitor's Center lobby with whom you will need to speak to start the battle. You will be given a few choices as to how you would like his troops to attack, though it doesn't really make any difference during the battle.

Take lots of ammo, and some powerful long-range weapons like a sniper rifle, Gauss canon or Bush Rifle. Take lots of stimpaks (I had 14 and lots of food) and if you're playing hardcore mode, take a few doctor's bags.

Caeser's Legion enemies drop a lot of the same items:
5.56 ammo
marksman carbine
super sledge
power fist
healing powder

Along the dam there are watch towers that you can enter to take a breather, drink from a sink, or get up on top to do some sniping.

I recommend crouching (sneaking) through the entire battle while looking through your scope and picking off baddies.

(------------------------begin spoiler------------------------)

You'll get to the Legion camp (Legate's Camp) and have to battle some dogs, general legion soldiers, and finally Legate himself.

If your Barter or Speech skills are very high, you can talk him into a one-on-one battle, or convince him to surrender. Otherwise, it's you versus Legate and a dozen bad dudes all at once.
It's bonkers. Hope you still have some stimpaks.

(------------------------end spoiler------------------------)

Once you've killed everyone, head back towards the (now closed) drawbridge/gate. Get close enough and it will burst open with a flood of NCR soldiers.

Game Over.
You win.

Shoot, I murdered them in my rage induced search for a key, lol. Sorry, I'm so used to randomly getting locked in rooms. Luckily (like a good fallout player) I saved before the mission. Whew... Thanks Grandma lol.

@SadBloke, After you've accepted the mission, you will have to speak to a NCR Ranger in the middle of the Hoover Dam Visitor's Center lobby. You'll be given a couple options as to how you want his men to attack. It doesn't really make any difference which you choose - they all get wasted.

I'm so glad I went for the 100 speech option against Lanius in my NCR playthrough. I fought and beat him in my Mr. House playthrough and despite being higher level in that playthrough, alongside having better weapons and a full set of ranger combat armor, it was still quite a tough fight.

"Eureka!" will be the final mission in the NCR storyline. Upon completion of this mission, the game will end. This is where any support you have obtained(Boomers, Khan, etc.) will assist in the final battle. I HIGHLY recommend having two companions before getting to this point(Boone and ED-E where my companions, and they kick ass).

I found the game is easy if you use the T-45d power armor you can pity much just run in and kill them all.

This achievement is unlocked after you complete the game by allying with the NCR at the Battle of Hoover Dam. Check here for a detailed walkthrough.

Main quest ending supporting NCR. One of four mutually exclusive ending trophies.

The ending missions are very straightforward. You have an optional objective to activate the water overflow valves to flush the Legonaries out and stop them from invading the dam, however you can just skip right to fighting your way to the Legate's Camp. If you pass a Barter or Speech 100 challenge, you can convince Lanius to withdraw without engaging in combat, otherwise you'll have to fight him. On your way back across the dam, General Oliver will show up to congratulate you.

This mission will be available after You'll Know It When It Happens when you complete the NCR Ambassador (For the Republic) missions. On mission Eureka! you need to go through Hoover Dam towards Legion's Camp killing the adversaries. In the camp you need to talk to Legatus Lanius to get him to give up and retreat (requires Speech skill equal to 100) otherwise kill him. Then follow the arrow, talk to General Oliver and the trophy is yours.
