How to unlock the New Vegas Samurai achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

[*MINOR ITEM LOCATION SPOILERS*]

I got this achievement pretty quickly and easily by using a special weapon called the "Oh, Baby!". This is a special hammer weapon that is pretty fast and does a lot of damage. You can find the Oh, Baby! in the Charleston Cave, on/next to the corpse of a dead Nightkin (where you find the chewed Stealth Boy).

Insects are very vulnerable to blunt weapons -- one way to speed this up is to fast travel between the various dry lakes in the game, you'll encounter quite a few ants, fire ants, and smaller radscorpions at those locations. Just wail away, keep an eye on your health, and you'll get this in no time.

If you're going after fleshy enemies (human, ghoul, animals) I recommend using a standard combat knife. It will do a fair bit of damage but swings quite fast. You also don't have to go too far out of the way for this weapon -- you can steal one fairly early in the game at the Vikki and Vance Casino in Primm.

To track your progress, go into your PipBoy, press RT to go to "Data", left stick over to "Misc", press Y for "Challenges", and press X to show "Damage Challenges". Look for, of course, "New Vegas Samurai".

I've put 70+ hours into this game and I didn't know about the challenges in the menu. Thanks! Thumbed you up.

I brought the X2 Antenna back from the Old Time Blues DLC. It kills everything in one swing. A single sneak kill scored over 500 damage. I started from 0 to 10,000 in about 10 minutes, just sneak killing everyone I saw with it ("hidden" status while crouched).

I know this is all super old, but just to add, to get the Oh baby, first go to jacobstown, enter the lodge and talk to the doctor on the first floor, you need the quest he gives you for the oh baby to spawn

The Oh Baby hammer is strong haha just smash enemies to oblivion. When you go into Charleston Cave go straight, make a right at first junction. Go straight and drop down into room below. Make a left and follow tunnel the first room you reach will have the hammer on the ground next to body on right side as you walk into room.

Get youself a strong melee weapon (the super mutants in "Crazy, crazy crazy" drop some pretty good hammers which work perfectly) and travel to The Thorn on the west side of West side (which is to the west of New Vegas).

Ask Ruby to fight the RAD scorpions and smash them with charged attacks. It will take you several rounds to reach 10,000 points, but the damage you sustained can be healed and used to get, as an example "Stimp-ly Amazing", later on.

Also, does anyone else get locked into the pit?

Maybe helpfull to add to the solution: The Thorn arena has alot of bugs causing the game to freeze or to be trapped inside the arena. Unfortunatly these aren't fixed yet so the best way around this is to save often. I already got the energy, gun and explosive related achievements but this method can be done for all of them since the damage you do counts the same way you do damage outside the arena.

I would recommend for all these 10000 damage achievements, start to try to get them about half way though the game when enemeis have mor health. For example, Bighorners have 100 health. Deathclaws have 500 health, alghough i wouldn't recommend going after them with melee.

I found the easiest way to get this achievement was to use the super sledge and kill everything in the New Vegas strip. Including the robot guards on the gate. I didn't even have a very high melee skill level. You will need a few stimpaks, and do it on very easy difficulty.
If you are going to do it this way, fast travel to The Strip entrance, save it, then kill all the robot guards, then go inside and go crazy and kill everyone. Enter all of the building's and kill everyone.

Don't save again, because obviously killing all the people on the strip will cause serious harm to your rep with a lot of factions and make you instantly fail a few quests. Once you have got the achievement load your save and play on.

Or you could use the other weapon types, not sure about energy or guns but it might work.
This probably could be done with another melee weapon but the super slede has a high damage rating and means enemies only take 1 or 2 hits to die.
You could go and get the 'Oh Baby' in Charleston Cave and use that if you are finding it hard to find a super sledge.

I'm using this method for the all damage achievements (except guns which I got during my play through because I prefer guns). Be sure to bring along all copies of the proper skill magazine you have and use just before your rampage to boost the skill in question by 10 points, 20 with the Comprehension perk. The boost is not cumulative so if you have more than one skill book, wait until one has worn off before reading the next. In this case it's the Tales of Chivalrie. See http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Tales_of_Chivalrie for locations.

I literally just unlocked this. Just hasn't scanned yet, but this is what I did, and I'm actually quite shocked I haven't seen this in a solution yet, but go to Black Mountain and kill off the Nightskins and I was able to pick up a chainsaw and an Annabelle. Both of those weapons are AWESOME

But anyway, I used the chainsaw for my melee weapon of choice while doing this achievement. It seemed to drain their health and my melee skill wasn't even high. But just do as usual with these 10,000 damage achievements. Go to Red Rock Canyon, Jacobstown, Black Mountain, The Fort, Ranger Station Alpha, Bravo, etc., Hidden Valley Bunkers, etc. to get a big group of people fighting.. I just noticed the chainsaw works much more efficiently than anything else I used. One of the guys at The Fort has a chainsaw also, so you'll probably wanna use it to maintain your condition because it tends to deteriorate rather quickly.

Also, remember to save it before doing these 10,000 damage achievements. While they are a lot of fun, you will definitely ruin your reputation with different factions in the process, so it's just best to run around and get these and reload your saves that you made before this after unlocking so you can have the achievement and won't have the bad rep. Cheers!

As usual, you can track your progress in Data: Misc: "New Vegas Samarai"

besides having a high strength skill, endurance and agility help.as perks go, its good to have; stonewall helps, as well as super slam, piercing strike, unstoppable force, and slayer all help.
however i did not use any of those perks, i would suggest getting the special weapon "Oh baby!", found in charleston cave located on the right side on the path to jacobstown.
If you really want the achievement and dont care about anything else, use the sledge, go to a place with lots of people; vault 33 and The fort (contain bad people) and go on a killing spree. you will get it in no time.

Let me start off by saying that this trophy will take awhile to pop. Even if you focus on using melee weapons from the very start you are looking at quite a grind to get this. Remember that there are also trophies for Guns, Unarmed, Explosive, ect. I primarily focused on using melee in my playthrough and it took a good 3-4 hours of gameplay to earn this trophy. It requires A LOT of killing.

But since this solution is for melee only, and me personally LOVING melee weapons in this game, I thought I would help you in getting this a little faster! There isn't really a "cheat" that you can do to get this sooner. My best advice is to just keep holding melee weapons and killing anything that is trying to kill you!

I will list some Unique Mojave Wasteland melee weapons. These weapons are considered "special". They might not necessarily make you pop this trophy any faster, but some of the weapons have "special" abilities. I will also list where you can find them! Use these weapons to your advantage. And remember, if they need repairing, just find a weapon that is of the same type and you can repair it that way!

One-Handed Melee (you can swing these faster, but they are less damaging)

Chance's Knife - Found in Chance's grave, which is a fanny hair South of the Tribal Village. To repair, simply find a regular Combat Knife.

Liberator - Found in Nelson and is carried by a Legion member named Dead Sea. To repair, simply find a regular Machete.

Chopper - Found in Wolfhorn Ranch on a stove in the main building. To repair, simply find a regular Cleaver. (note- this is my favorite melee weapon!)

Figaro - Found in the King's School of Impersonation and is carried by a guy named Sergio. To repair, simply find a regular Straight Razor.

The Humble Cudgel - Found in the Sealed Sewers by a Prospector corpse. To repair, simply find a regular Lead Pipe.

Two-Handed Melee (these swing slower than one-handed, but are much more powerful)

Knock-Knock - Found in the Fire Station in Camp Searchlight. To repair, simply find a regular Fire Axe.

Nephi's Golf Driver - Found by the Samson Rock Crushing Plant and is carried by a fiend named Driver Nephi. To repair, simply find a regular 9-Iron.

Oh, Baby! - Found in Charleston Cave in the very back by a chewed Stealth Boy. To repair, simply find a regular Super Sledge. (note- this is the most powerful of the melee weapons!)

And there you go! If you ever find yourself in one of these locations, keep your eyes open for these weapons! I always have 3 of these weapons on my character at any given time. Also keep in mind that these are not the only melee weapons in the game. These are just some of the Unique ones.

I personally prefer the one-handed weapons that are sharp. Chance's Knife, Chopper and the Liberator are excellent weapons to use when grinding for this trophy. I have used Knock-Knock before but found it harder to repair since the Fire Axe is not as common of a weapon as a Machete or Cleaver is.

You can always use Weapon Repair Kits to keep up the maintenance on your weapons, but that requires you to know what materials you need to make the kit AND you have to have a Repair skill of 50. The materials you need are 1 Duct Tape, 1 Scrap Electronic, 2 Scrap Metal, 1 Wonderglue and 1 Wrench. And that creates 1 (one) Weapon Repair Kit. So if you want two kits, you must double the materials.

If you have any questions, please leave it in the comments sections! Good luck to those who are aiming for this trophy!

This trophy will come naturally over time as you induce head trauma across the Mojave. Playing on Very Easy difficulty you will do 200% normal damage to enemies, making it much easier to accumulate points. Melee weapons of both one or two handed variety count towards this trophy, but not those weapons considered ‘unarmed’ melee. A high Melee Weapons skill will affect your damage potential, and high Strength and Endurance stats will improve your base damage If you haven’t received this trophy by level 12, consider taking the Unstoppable Force perk to reduce the effectiveness of enemy blocks. You can keep track of your progress by looking at the "New Vegas Samurai" challenge in your Pip-Boy. Damage inflicted by your companions does not count towards this trophy.

Though this damage type is not particularly complicated, the Strength it requires allows it to have a nice synergy with most of the other damage types. Just remember that melee damage is not the same thing as unarmed damage; melee weapons are considered any weapon that you "swing." So to make it clear, you must inflict the damage with a weapon that you swing (like a sledgehammer or sword), not your bare fists or a Fist/glove weapon.

Not a nerdy trophy, if anything. Under no circumstances should you go to Thorn. We take the knife of Chance (it is located in the "Tribe" location near the grave. And we go to kill SECRETLY (that is, with a hidden strike, the damage of the weapon increases SEVERAL TIMES. I received this trophy in Vault 3. That is, to hell. We came to the shelter, Bazarim with guard. Here you need to have 70 Speech. We say that we are the coolest thing now. All the devils are now neutral towards us. I linked this trophy with the trophy, steal 50 pockets, steal, kill, and so on (you can also get the trophy here). for 10,000 damage with fists).

We get it almost plot-wise

We go to the point on the Gun Runners' Arsenal map, there is a robot seller and we must buy there:
- GRA chainsaw and three upgrades for it: HD chain, carbide teeth for it, and a special handle.
I’ll say right away that not all upgrades are sold at the same time; sometimes you need to “sleep and wait” for 72 hours for the store to be updated.

With this saw we solve ALL enemies, and quickly and easily - the trophy is yours
