How to unlock the Having a Ball achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

Be warned that this guide contains minor spoilers for the Dead Money DLC. This is a story related mission that takes place after finding all 3 companions and returning to the fountain at the Villa.

You'll receive three new missions (Fires in the Sky, Strike Up the Band, and Mixed Signals) that involve escorting each companion to a switching station in order to simultaneously trigger the Gala Event, and open the casino's gates.

Fires in the Sky has you taking Dog and God to Salida del Sol South. Navigate the streets, destroying ghost people as you move along and be sure to engage Dog in conversation to unlock the Ghost Hunter perk, making it easier to destroy them outright. Either reason with God to stay at the station, kill two ghost people for meat to appease Dog, or lock the cage to force God to activate the switches. Any choice will finish the mission.

Strike Up the Band will take you to Puesta del Sol with Dean Domino. His perk will help you avoid damage from The Cloud that blocks your path in many areas. Travel through the Ruined Cafe and when you reach the rooftop with the sparking wire, either threaten him to stay and complete the circuit or activate two security holograms to protect him. When he finally agrees to preform the task, the mission is finished.

Mixed signals takes you and Christine to Puesta del Sol, and a switching station rife with speakers and The Cloud. Your companions perk will help lengthen the time you have to navigate around speakers interfering with your bomb collar. A fuse box is in need of repair at the switching station, and either 3 fuses or a repair of 60 will get it working order again. You'll also need to activate a terminal by the elevator and then engage Christine in conversation again. After she agrees to stay the mission will end.

Now you have to proceed to the bell tower in Salida del Sol and trigger the Gala Event. Numerous ghost people and speakers will greet you along the way. Be sure to grab the Super Stimpak recipe on the ledge, and the Holorifle mod recipe when you reach the top.

Pull the switch and fireworks will explode over the casino. Ghost People will now emerge in the courtyard below, and you'll have to fight or flee in order to backtrack back to the fountain and continue into the Sierra Madre casino.

Understandable, but even I was disappointed at the lack of solid info on this DLC. Even The Vault wiki is pretty vague on some of the steps you need to take, and since I just completed the achievement yesterday I figured a new solution was in order.

On dogs part how do u lock the cage by the switches ? I have killed all the ghost people with the others without knowing he needed to kill some so im stuck now

If you mean how do you trap Dog or God in the switching station, simply use the holotape to make God come out and then lie to him in a speech option and trap him in.

If you want to stay on his good side, but don't have an Intelligence of 7 or higher God will need two slabs of Ghost People remains in order to keep Dog under control. These Ghost People should automatically appear on your pip-boy map.

There's a challenge for beating the DLC with all companions alive, which means keeping them happy, and is tougher then just lying or bullying them. If you cleared out the Ghost People on the way to Dog/God's switching station the two new ones should automatically appear after God tells you he needs meat.

I have googled this for a while now and everyone say the same thing, lock the gate. The only problem is no one says HOW. I can close the gate but not lock it. There is no lock option in the terminal beside the gate so im very curious how this is accomplished.
I know there are other ways of getting god/dog to stay, but locking them in seems like the best solution to not have to worry about God coming after you later.

@Zordnil, I'm not sure why you're unable to lock God in the cage. You should have an option on the terminal next to that area, but it's strange that it doesn't appear. I'll either replay that section or try and get a definitive answer and get back to you.

Thanks for the guide, this DLC is an absolute nightmare. Such vague in-game quest descriptions and a really hard map to navigate.

Just wanted to let you know about the 'lock the cage' part, it basically means to play the holo tape that commands dog. It 'changes' him back to god, meaning dog is 'locked in his cage' (now the hidden personality) so that you can reason with god and have him flick the switches.

There's no way to physically lock the gates in that area :)

I know it's been a long time since this came out, and the info is probably already easy to find, but I'd like to state that the computer next to the gates for the Dog/God mission locks the gates then requiring some "mysterious" key to unlock them. It's possible you might need a certain level of Science to see the lock option. I did have an issue with God clipping through the gate after the quest completed, as if he was still in follower mode. I was also unable to interact with him command wise at that point. Hope this helps. smile

thats cool :) i just wanted to let people know they couldn't miss the achievement and everything they need to know was given to them by the game without giving away the story. was just trying to help people with out spoiling the game for them but no one appreciated it. personally with games like fallout i would rather read a solution telling me i wont miss it without telling me what will happen

After you have gone through the work of gathering your three partners in this mess and gotten them all safely to the fountain, Elijah will tell you you have to redistribute them across the Town once more. Regardless of how annoying he is you must do as he says, so I suggest beginning with Dog. If you have a high intelligence, take God along; if not, take dog along. If you chose the former you must bring him two ghost meat in order to get him to follow you. Make your way through the Villa and Salida del Sol until you get to the row of switches. If you chose God, simply talk to him and he will agree to work them. If you brought Dog, you must lock him in to get him to stay. For a full, detailed walkthrough, check here.

Dean Domino should be next on your list, and you must bring him to Puesta del Sol. Make your way to the severed wiring, and there he will refuse to stay unles you convince him. You have two options: turn on the holographic security, or threaten to break his legs. The threat is much quicker, but if you can't / won't you'll have to find the two corresponding terminals. One is through the door directly next to Dean, follow its path until you find the terminal. For the other you must go back to the Cafe at the beginning of the area. Enter it, and exit it from the back second story exit. Then simply cross the rooftops to the terminal. For a full, detailed walkthough, check here.

Christine is the last and possibly longest quest if you don't have 60 Repair. Take her to Puesta del Sol and once there make your way to the Switch Station. Once inside you'll need to activate the power by repairing the fuse box. If you have 60 repair you can simply jury rig it. Without 60 repair you'll need to find the three fuses (one is in a toolbox in the station, one is in a toolbox on the highest roof in Puesta del Sol, and the last is located behind a Very Hard locked door near the service route; not the locked door can be bypassed). With the power restored you'll have to deal with turrets and shielded radios; there are terminals to deactivate both provided you have the science levels. Once you bring her back to the elevator, she will reveal she is claustrophobic. You may either receive the computer pass code from the named locker in the Ventilation control room or you may force her into the basement For a full, detailed walkthrough, check here.

Finally you must make your way to the bell tower. It is located in Salida del Sol and you will have to fight numerous ghost people along the way. Once there, start the event (and pick up the codes next to the controls) to pop the achievement. With the event started, make your way back to the fountain past many more ghost people. Story related, can't be missed.

Again, same tips as before. Just make sure to take your time on everything. You will have to get Dog, Dean, and Christine to where they need to be and then you can start the Gala event. You are required to go to the bell tower to and complete the quest Trigger the Gala Event that opens the gates to the Sierra Madre Hotel. Enjoy the show! You receive the trophy once you have activated the control pad that starts it.

Receive according to the story after activating the remote control on the bell tower in Salida del Sol. You will have to travel there alone. It is relatively long and you will encounter many “ghosts”, traps and other joys of life.
