How to unlock the Master of the Mojave achievement in Fallout: New Vegas - Definitive Guide

You must discover 125 out of 187 unique locations in the Mojave Wasteland.

It is recommended to purchase the Explorer perk at level 20 or above, as it will revel all locations on your map, making the task a lot easier.

One other thing worth mentioning, is that on the compass display in the bottom left of the screen, the 'empty' triangular markers indicate a location which is nearby but is not yet discovered. A 'solid' triangle indicates a location that is nearby and discovered.

It's pretty easy to just walk around from undiscovered location to undiscovered location using the compass.

Thanks. I was curious as to what those were.

I'm not convinced the Explorer perk is worth it. I was up to around 80 after getting about halfway through the main quest and also completing a number of side quests and with some limited exploration. A bit more exploration (especially around Primm, Nipton, Bitter Springs and the areas just outside Freeside) nudged that up to 125 without too much trouble. Also I'd tend to avoid the area north of Sloan as it's packed with Deathclaws, Cazadors and Giant Radscorpions, there's a few locations there but it's really not worth the (considerable) effort.

The explorer perk allows you to see where large bunches of undiscovered areas are, that are not visited in the storyline. Such is the reason I suggested it,

Yeah I agree the Explorer perk would definitely help, I got there without it using just a bit of exploration and the 'empty' triangular marks on the compass. If there was no level cap I'd definitely recommend it, but since you get capped at level 30 (total of 15 perks), I just prefer having a functional/combat perk.

Very true. I would have likely not purchased it myself had I known about the triangle feature on my playthrough.

People who vote negative should really stop being so ignorant and post why they did so. Not doing so really deters people from posting future solutions and only hurts them in the long run, try to think about that.

People are dbags and only put negative feedback because it is too hard for them to get or there is no glitch mentioned so they leave the thumbs down...what scmucks

You'll get this ach really easy when you just walk towards every empty triangle you see. Just look at the wiki for areas you've never visited: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout:_New_Vegas_locations

Using the Explorer Perk is just a waste. Also; DLC locations also count. So you will have far over 200 locations to discover when you also have the DLC.

Will not cast a vote because Imo this site should get rid off thumbing down, but this solution is not my favorite as it's suggesting to use a precious perk for an achievement which is easy to get without it.

To earn this achievement you must discover 125 locations in the Mojave Wasteland. There are a total 187 unique locations *BUT* DLC locations count too, which makes this task much easier.

If you are going for this achievement specifically then I recommend taking the "Explorer" perk at level 20, which will make your task much easier as it will show ALL the Mojave's location on the world map.

If not, then follow the link below for an interactive map. This also shows things like weapon locations, creatures, NPC's and more, so happy hunting!

Undiscovered nearby locations will appear as hollow triangles on your compass at the bottom of the screen. Walk towards them to discover it. Rotate to find another hollow triangle. Walk towards it. Repeat 125 items.

An alternative approach to this achievement is to level up to level 20 (but save first if you don't really want this perk). Upon reaching level 20, you may choose the explorer perk, which allows you to see every location in the game.

From there, just travel to them one by one until the achievement pops. smile

The way I did it was slightly less effective but it just involved fast travelling to locations that didn't have many other locations around it, and travelling off in an empty direction until a hollowed out arrow appeared on my mini map.

You will gradually unlock this trophy after many hours of exploration. If you are like me, you will spend 80% of your time wandering the wastes and the other 20% will be actually doing quests. There will be little triangles on your compass which will point you in the direction of a new place to discover. If this triagngle is filled in however, then that means you have already discovered it.

At level 20 there is a perk called Explorer. What it does is it will unveil all the locations on your Pip-Boy map. You still have to travel to the locations to actually discover them but this can be helpful if you need a few more.

This will occur naturally over time if you're taking the time to explore. If you’re looking for new places to discover, look for triangular outlines at the bottom of your compass which indicates a location you’ve not been to yet. Once you get near the location, a message will come up on your screen that you've discovered a new location and it will be added to your map. Keep track of your progress on the Stats screen of your Pip-Boy. Note: The Explorer perk will not give you this trophy but it will reveal every location on the map so that you can see where you still need to go. I don't recommend wasting a perk this way but it's an option.

Another achievement that is simply done passively; you can most likely get it while doing quests and leveling to 30, but it's quite possible to need to actively search. Note that if you wish to power through the achievement follow this process:

  • Save just before leveling.
  • Level and take the 'Explorer' perk. Note the Explorer perk only reveals the location, it doesn't allow fast travel.
  • Methodically fast travel to the nearest discovered location to the desired undiscovered location and walk to said undiscovered location. Repeat until you reach 125 locations.
  • Reload the save before leveling.
  • Level and take a better perk.

Locations from DLS are not considered. I don't have more than one DLS, but I got the trophy.

At level 20, take the Explorer perk - all locations will be marked on the map.
