How to unlock the The third faction achievement in Far Cry 2 - Definitive Guide

There's a total of 11 buddies to find in this game. Even if they die, you'll still get this achievement when you find all of them. As a note, the buddies are the other characters you could have chosen for your main character.

The first three you'll unlock by advancing through the storyline in the North. The next two are locked up in the locations around Pala, I.E. Slaughterhouse, Fresh Fish, Lumberyard, Cock Fights. If you don't find them at one, go to another until you've been to all of them. Make sure you find the building in the area that you can enter, as that's where they'll be hidden.

The sixth buddy in the North is the hardest to find, unless you know where to look. Go here, in the top-middle of the Northern area:
External image
(image not mine). You'll find your buddy laying on the ground and you'll have to give them an injection to get them up and going again.

Make sure you find all six of these before advancing to the South, because you'll be unable to save them once you do and you can't get the achievement.

Once in the south, there are five more to be found. You'll gain three of them as part of the story shortly after unlocking the "Dawa ya moto ni moto" achievement when you transport the barge to the main city. You'll have to go rescue one at Mike's and after you do, the other two join you.

The final two are unlocked like the ones at the Slaughterhouse, you just have to find them. They're much easier to find though. One is at the Brewery in the South's bottom-middle, and the other is at Sediko in the South's top-middle. The second one might be available through the storyline when you have to travel there, but easier just to grab them immediately.

Once you free your last buddy, you should get the unlock. If not, go to the Buddies menu on the Pause menu and you should have six names crossed off, and five names not. If you don't have six crossed off, you missed one in the North and won't get the achievement. If one of the five isn't there, you've still not found one of them in the South and should check the Brewery and Sediko again.

PHT999, the buddies are random. My ist time through, I saved Michele at the plane crash. 2nd time is was Josip. You don't need a list of names, just locations.

You really have to watch out with the South buddies. Once you get to 73% game completion, you can't get them anymore. I had to do one guy in the brewery (doorman told me), and when I tried to get the other one in Sediko, it was too late, the door wouldn't open anymore. another great bug in this game....

As many of the other comments state, the names and characters are random and their locations are as well, except that the locations will all be named on your map near the town.

I recently started the campaign and so far I have 3 names in my buddies list. 1 has a checkmark and another has 2 checkmarks next to his name where as the other doesn't have a checkmark. What do the checkmarks mean? I can't find an answer anywhere.

The one is Sediko is locked behind a story mission. The only buddy you can find in free roam in the south is the one at the Brewery.

As soon as I escorted the barge in the south I attempted to go and rescue the buddies but the doors wouldn't open.

I then completed the mission where you had to save the barge again (next mission) and then the buddies appeared in their respective spots.

hi, this is addition to the sixth person in the north, where you could find him:

Head to the Top Centre (directly North) part of the Map. There is a town called Shwasana, look at the writing for Shwasana. It is just in between two rocks. Also between those two rocks is a T-junction road. The large rock above that T-junction looks a little like an "N" if you tilt your head to the right.

Now we've identified that Rock, it is actually in between that rock, and the rock directly above it. Drive in between those two rocks, and you'll stumble across a small camp fire, a crashed Plane, and someone will yell for your help. You must heal them with a syrette, and that buddy will be saved.

In addition to Codster2005 great description, I'd like to point out something regarding the buddy you find in Sediko (Bowa-Seko):

I've kept going inside the house where he was supposed to be, multiple times, with no success.
At some point, before 70% of game completion, I noticed inside the house a "carved" wooden ladder, which you can climb to a 2nd floor...
Bingo, there he was!

This might seem obvious, but I was about to miss this achievement because of this simple detail.

Good Luck!

Great tip. Another quick note. If like me you were heavy into exploring Bowa Seko for diamond briefcases before even finishing the story missions that bring you to the South, you won't be able to access this buddy (no "use" prompt on the upstairs door). You must finish the two story missions that bring you to the South, and then once things like convoy, assassination, and faction missions are available, you can return to Sediko and access your buddy.

There's a total of 11 buddies, you only need to find them to get the achievement.

Buddy 1
You find this Buddy in the tutorial. It is your first mission after unlocking the Safehouse.

Buddy 2
You'll meet this Buddy in Mike's Bar after you've saved your first Buddy from captivity. This is still in the Tutorial. You'll be prompted to visit Mike's Bar to find a cure for your Malaria. After you've spoken to your first Buddy and Reuben, you'll have another Buddy lean up on a wall. If you speak to them, then you'll have met this Buddy.

Buddy 3
After your Tutorial, where you've gotten some Pills for your Malaria from the Church in Pala, you need to complete one mission from the Factions. Then, go into the meeting, and get your second Faction mission. After you've accepted the mission, go to either the Lumber Yard, Cock-Fights, or Slaughterhouse (definitely not the place where you found your first Buddy in the tutorial).

Buddy 4
Keep heading to Mike's Bar every so often, and you should meet new Buddies. So after every Faction mission, and at whatever opportunity you get, just head to Mike's Bar, and you'll have your best Buddy, and sometimes a new Buddy.

Buddy 5
This Buddy will be unlocked throughout the story, on Mission 8. It's impossible to miss this one. Eventually, instead of going inside the Factions Headquarters, the Guard on the door will be on his phone. Head over to him, and he'll offer you a mission to find someone held in a location. Head to the location, save them, and you'll have Buddy 5.

If you're not too sure about what Buddies you have, Press Start, go to "Buddies", and then look at your current Buddies. If you have 5 different Buddies by now, you have met every Buddy so far.

Also, if you haven't yet, visit either the Lumber Yard, Cock-Fights, or the Slaughterhouse.

It should be mentioned that apart from the place where you were brought to after being saved from the firefight in Pala at the start, there will be a Buddy in all of the other three Towns that surround Pala.

You will be prompted to visit one of these towns in the tutorial. Then you will be prompted to find a Buddy in one of the remaining 2 towns during Mission 2, and then you'll be prompted to find the other Buddy in Mission 8, in the third and final Town.

Buddy 6
This Buddy is the only one that isn't naturally found during the Storyline, or from Mike's Bar.

The whole map of the Northern Territory is split into 9 smaller pages. Top Left, Top Center, Top Right...

Middle Left, Middle Center, Middle Right...

Bottom Left, Bottom Center, Bottom Right...

Head to the Top Center (directly North) part of the Map.

Drive in between those two rocks, and you'll stumble across a small campfire or a crashed Plane, and someone will yell for your help. You must heal them with a syrette, and that buddy will be saved.

Now it goes without mentioning that you shouldn't have completed all the Northern Faction missions before you find Buddy 6, because you cannot go back and save them if you've moved down to the Southern Territory.

Buddy 1
Now in the Southern Territory, you won't struggle to find your first Buddy. You'll immediately be given a mission without choice, to help someone take a shipment of arms into the Town to break the ceasefire.

Once you've escorted the Barge to the Town, you'll need to inform the Doctor of the breaking ceasefire. After you've told him, the fight has already broken outside. If you head for the front door exit, you'll be stopped by another Buddy. And they'll prompt you to go out the back door so you're not noticed. This is you're first Buddy of the Southern Territory.

Buddy 2
Once you've escaped the Ceasefire in Town, you'll be called by the driver of the Barge. He went to sink it by Marina's Bar, but he's been caught under fire.

Once you've traveled to save him, and cleared the enemies from the Barge, you can enter the Barge, and talk to him. Once he's thanked you, you've made a second Buddy.

Buddy 3
I'm very unsure about how you find this buddy. But supposedly they're unmissable throughout the story. You'll have made a friend without even trying. If not, just head down to Marina's Bar, and just head up to anyone inside that you haven't met, and you'll have your friend.

Buddy 4
Remember that the whole Southern Territory map is split into 9 sections, just like the Northern map, head to the Bottom Centre part of the map, and head to the Bowaseko Brewing Co. This is a small town, similar to the Lumber Yard, and so on. There's a Buddy held captivity here. No matter which mission you're working on, just head there and save the Buddy.

Buddy 5
This final Buddy is luckily unmissable. So your worries about missing your last Buddy are gone. Just continue through the Faction missions, until eventually you go to the headquarters of a Faction, and the Guard at the door is once again on his Phone. He'll send you to a Town called Sediko. Head there, and save the Buddy from Captivity, and you'll be complete.

The Northern Territory is slightly more tricky to save all Buddy's, because there are more of them, and it's a little easier to save them all.

But just remember to follow my guide, and keep checking your Buddy List on the Start menu throughout the Story Mode, just to check that you're still on course.

Here is a link to find the plane crash buddy (mine was a girl Michele) it's in Act 1; make sure you get them before you go to Part 2.

http://s1004.photobucket.com/user/jason_ingles/media/x360a/f...

ALSO I have no idea where the cell phone guy was in mission 8 or w/e. I saw a guy talking outside on the phone at that point but there was no mission or anything to save someone because when i got close he said go away or something; but i managed to have 6 buddies and still in act 1; think I rescued 2 or so from those random locations: cockfights, fresh fish, slaughter house etc.

I have no idea regarding the Guard on the phone business..

I found 2 of my Buddies by visiting Cock-Fight and Slaughter House.

So that's 3 by playing the story, 2 by exploring and finally the Buddy up in the top center of the map which makes 6 in the Northern part.

I can confirm that you don't need to have this mission activated for the last Buddy in Sediko, i just followed a god awful guide on Youtube to the location and he was there. Sediko is in the top center part of the Southern Territory. Bottom right of that map.

The ladder isn't obvious in the building - looks like a concrete pillar but it will be on the otherside of the pillar. The buddy will be on the second floor behind the door.

I've had to draw a line on this Playthrough as i've been fucked over by the glitchy Cellular Tower missions. God this game is fucking horrible.

I somehow ended up with three buddies before playing any faction missions (just the tutorial and side content). I met the first two buddies as the guide said, but when I checked my list, I had a third buddy that I don't remember meeting, though since then I have seen her at Mike's Bar.

I know she wasn't the buddy you rescue from the plane crash, as I went out there and saved that person and now I have four buddies.

Any idea which buddy number my third one was supposed to be?

EDIT: I started playing faction missions and ended up finding the buddy you label as #3. So I guess my extra buddy was #4 and I met her at the bar without realizing it.

For me, this was the most accurate guide. I found this on xboxachievements.com. Credit goes to jatt_boy_punjabi

This guide goes according to the following conditions :

- You are playing as Marty.

- You die during the escape from the Pala Hotel at the beginning of the game.

I woke up at Cock Fights and was sent to Slaughter House to bust out Buddy 2. You must exclude your two such places when searching for the buddies. The four places they may be at are Cock Fights, Slaughter House, Lumber Yard, and Fresh Fish. So you will wake up in one of these four places and be sent to another one of these four as part of the tutorial mission to rescue Buddy 2. The other two places will have Buddy 4 and 5 in them.

NORTH SECTOR

BUDDY 1

He is the buddy that saves you and puts you to work. He teaches you how to use the diamond tracker.

BUDDY 2

He is found as the "foreign national" that you rescue during the first tutorial mission after acquiring a safehouse.

BUDDY 3

He/She (mostly like She) will be found at Mike's Bar when you are told by Buddy 1 to go there to get malaria medicine. He/She stands next to Reuben, the reporter. Speak to he/she before you continue your mission with Reuben.

BUDDY 4

After you complete that tutorial mission, go to Fresh Fish. Kill all the guards and Buddy 4 will be found inside the office type building.

BUDDY 5

Buddy 5 is at the Lumber Yard. Again, clear all guards out and enter the office building to save him/her.

BUDDY 6

This is the last buddy in North. He/She is located north of Shwasna. Just find him/her near the plane wreck and revive him/her.

It goes without saying. Make sure you have all 6 before starting the mission where you have to kill the guy at the Goka Falls. After you start that mission, you can not unlock the buddies in the North.

SOUTH SECTOR

BUDDY 1

Buddy 1 is the driver of the barge. He will be unlocked after completing the mission.

BUDDY 2

This is the one who warns you about going out the front door when you go see the Doctor. Just speak to him/her and you're good.

BUDDY 3

He/She gets unlocked automatically during the escape from the South Capital city.

BUDDY 4

After you save Buddy 1 from the attack at the Marina, go back to the capital town. You will have unlocked APR and UFLL missions. Do the UFLL first. The doorman for UFLL will give you a mission to go to Sediko to save some one. Go there, clear out the baddies and rescue him/her.

BUDDY 5

The last one (whoo hoo) is at the Brewery, inside the small building next to the dock. I did this at night. I took the bus from the capital to the south east, and hug the shore line. I got into the water and climbed the dock and snuck in the door. Then just opened the locked door and the achievement popped up.

There are six buddies in the North and five in the South.

North: 3 are found during the main story line. Two of the others are found at random in various safehouses. Simply check each square km of the map for safehouses, clear them and enter them.

Credit goes to Rainleaf for this last one in the North: Head to the Top Center (directly North) part of the Map.

South: 3 are found during the storyline and the others are found in safehouses.

Before proceeding to Act 2, just make sure you have all six buddies from Act 1, then you may start the transitional mission.

Sometimes, safe houses will be empty during the night, so you may have to come during the day to clear the enemies. Other than that, you should be good to go.

The trophy is cumulative .
If you didn't save someone during your first playthrough. Then in the second you will need to save the friend who is missing for the trophy, without even finishing the game a second time.
The essence of the trophy is this. So that you save all your comrades from captivity.
For example, we start playing as Marty.
Leboa-Sak - Northern Territory / Leboa-Sak - Northern Territory
Friend #1 . Meet according to the plot. He saves you after you either escaped or fell unconscious while escaping from the Hotel. And he will teach you the basics of the game and give you your first tasks.
Friend #2 . Meet according to the plot. He/She will be at the bar. You need to talk to Him/She.
Friend #3 . Meet according to the plot. He/She will be at the bar. You need to talk to Him/She. (After you complete the task with the 1st Friend. You will have 3 friends in your statistics, the 2nd of them you met at the bar)
Friend #4 . Meet according to the plot. You need to save Him/Her by completing the task in the 8th mission at [ APR ]
Friend #5 . You must find and save a friend in one of the given areas. Timber warehouse | Lumber / Cockfighting | Cock Fights / Slaughterhouse | Slaughterhouse . The friend is in the house behind closed doors.
Friend #6 . You must find and save a friend from a crashed plane
Airplane location.

Your friend must be rescued before you escape to the Southern Territory. Otherwise, your friend will disappear and cannot be saved.
Bowa-Seko - The Southern Territory
Friend #1 . Meet according to the plot. He/She needs to be protected while he controls the barge, and saved when he calls you to the bar.
Friend #2 . Meet according to the plot. He/She will appear on your list after completing the barge mission
Friend #3 . Meet according to the plot. He/She will appear on your list after completing the barge mission. As a result, you will meet 3 friends.
Friend #4 . You must find and rescue a friend locked in a house on the territory of the Bova-Seko Brewing Co.
House location with locked friend:

Rescue your friend immediately after the barge.
Friend #5 . You must find and save a friend locked in a hut on the territory of Sediko/Sediko
Location of the hut with the locked friend

Rescue your friend immediately after the barge.

All! You saved all your friends and receive a trophy. Third faction

Southern Territory

It's best to do this:

Friend No. 1. Story / after the barge
Friend No. 2. Story / after the barge
Friend No. 3. Story / after the barge
Friend #4. NOT plot / Found in the Brewery in the south of the southern territory
Friend No. 5. NOT plot / Located in Sediko in the house on the second floor
Collect the last two immediately after the barge!
