How to unlock the Utility Man achievement in Far Cry 2 - Definitive Guide

Just like said above, you need to complete all the cellular tower missions. There are 12 missions to complete, 6 in the north and 6 in the south.

I've heard from some people that there is one glitch. If you activate the mission and wait too long with completing the mission, you will have the chance that the targets will dissapear from your map and you can't complete the mission anymore. Don't know if this is correct but to be sure save every time before you start a cellular tower mission.

Probably worth noting as I’ve not seen anything about this, on the south cellular missions there’s a mission with moving target to eliminate, if you don’t eliminate the target and they die another way it won’t count and for some reason messed with my order

The cellular towers look like satellite dishes on the maps. If they have a small yellow exclamation mark icon on the edge of it, that means that there is a mission available at it. Proceed to the tower.

When you arrive at the tower, search around the base for an electric box that should be flashing yellow. When you walk up to it and hit Y you should receive a phone call.

When you complete the phone call, there should now be a red target marker on the map. Proceed there and destroy the target it marks to finish the mission.

Continue taking missions from towers whenever there is one available until the achievement unlocks. Make sure you do them as soon as they are available. When you head to the south, you'll no longer be able to do the ones in the north.

Adding to the point above, you also need to complete all cell tower missions from both the north and the south to get this cheevo. So if you don't get it after the missions stop appearing up north, then thats why :P

@ CrankyBauer24 - The missions are not location specific, going to any one of those towers will trigger the same mission, and once complete the other two will disappear.

Yeah, I think I did 5 of them down south and they just stopped appearing. I know the predecessor tapes missions will disappear for a while and become available again. But do the cell tower ones do the same? I'm only at about 54%, didn't do but maybe one story mission down south, but I'm starting to worry I'm going to get screwed out of a few major achievements.

Well for me the opposite happened, I did most of the story before doin these but when I began doin them I returned to the north to do those, I finished them, but then the ones in the south did not have the yellow exclamation point! Anyone know why this happens?

Missions are only available when you don't have an active mission.

"When you head to the south, you'll no longer be able to do the ones in the north" - this is not true, I was able to go back and do the North ones once I was already in the South.

This appears to be glitched. If you're not quick enough taking the target out, they flee the map, and you can't get them to respawn.

@ Spiffing WotWot - This never happen to me, but i think what happen for you is because the convoy's are already damaged and you took so long to reach them they must of kept hitting rocks and tree's etc and got "too" damaged and their car caught on fire. You should do the missions ASAP to avoid any glitches like this, Note that the bus's are good for saving time i used them often.

Also do "NOT" park your car on the road the convoy takes because then they go ape shit and ram each other and objects around them and go crazy which can lead to them catching on fire.

@ WicKeD NowWhat - I never experienced that problem, although i only had like 3 convoy missions. Everyone should use mines, grenade launcher, or rocket launcher just to be safe on the convoy missions and for the assassination one's try to use the sniper rifle and take out the target before people notice you that way the target cant run off and die by fire or an explosion or something.

Just a note to make things easier.

There are 6 missions in the North & 6 in the South. There are not 6 towers in each area so I tried using the same ones each time. It works.

Find a tower nearest to a Bus Station and use the buses to get to the targets where possible. Only took me around 30 minutes to do this in the South. I used the North East Bus Station and the tower just SW of it.

FYI, make sure you neutralise your target and get paid everytime before you save and leave, otherwise you will make it impossible to get 1000/1000 diamonds in the game and get the wages of conflict achievement.

I have just discovered that all three of these posts so far are wrong about not being able to do the north missions after you've gone to the south. I loaded up a save file that was at 73% and drove up to the north and the cellular tower missions were in fact available. So I'm thinking that maybe you can't go back and do the missions right after you go down to the south, but at some point they will become available again.

And as a note: For the cell tower missions that require you to kill someone in a ceasefire zone, just go in and kill him and run out. I've tried to get the person in an alley and stealth kill him with a knife, but everybody still knows that you killed him and tries to kill you anyways.

Hope this helps! :)

There are six of these in the north and six in the south. If you want to get them done immediately, you could simply accept missions from the same tower. I’ve confirmed it works as the box is always glowing. They’ll have you assassinate someone in another nearby location. So simply take a car, drive there and kill the target. Just watch out for bandits. They can easily catch you off guard due to the relaxing nature of these simple missions. If they appear, switch to your turret if you have one or get down and gun them down. Other than that , simply get the six in the North done, finish up Act 1 and then complete the last 6 in the South during Act 2. You'll first have to complete a mission in Act 2 to get settled, but once you're done, you're free to get your last six done. When the faction missions start appearing, you're good to go.

I recommend making a save after completing the first 6 missions, somewhere before you are dropped south, making sure you get the diamonds for them! Why, because I completed all 12 missions (counted), but did not receive a trophy for the towers, and I was not the only one who had such a glitch. I hope this is a rare glitch, but it’s better to leave the save - it’s not difficult)

UPD : The problem turned out to be in a mission where you need to kill a guy in a jeep - if he leaves at the first meeting (or his own people kill him), then the mission will be completed, but no diamonds will be given for it.
