Kill a Dragon with the Bow

How to unlock the Just the Tip achievement in Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon - Definitive Guide
This may seem impossible at first, but you can earn it once you reach the first Garrison in the game. As the dragons can’t enter the Garrisons unless you disable the barriers stopping them, you can take advantage of cover within the base. To earn this with ease you can reduce the dragons health with any weapon or explosives, you just need the final blow to be with the arrow.
As arrows do little to no damage to this enemies, aim for the heart, or the big purple mark on their chest. It may take several arrows to kill the dragon you’re fighting, but this is the most straight forward way.

At this rate I'm never going to get this. Twice now I've gotten the dragon down to a sliver of health, only to have the damn scientists steal the kill from me as I'm finishing it off with arrows.

Got it. Did it in the campaign mission where you have to burn the eggs. No scientists about to steal my kills and nowhere for the dragon to run away to.

This is dead easy.... I did it on the top of the dam after you try to blow it up. Here's what I did.
Once the C4000 fails to work, take out the three bad guys that popup, zipline down and then climb the stairs to the top of the dam to find the engineer. As you get to the top of the stairs, you'll see a new gun - it's a gatling gun that holds 700 rounds of serious ammo. You'll also be right next to a store - stock up on the health pack things and get ya some armor too.
Exit up the stairs on your right and you'll see a bunch of bad guys. I took 'em all out with the gatling gun. Heck it was fun.
You'll also see a dragon.
Throw one of the hearts to get the dragon busy eating and lay into him with the gatling gun from BEHIND COVER.
If he zaps you (he will!) just hit Y to heal up and lob another heart. Rinse and repeat until he has only one health bar left. I had to run back to the shop to stock up on health packs a couple of times.
Now switch over to your bow and start shooting arrows. I had to keep throwing hearts out and then shoot 3-4 times. I think I went thru 8 hearts. You will see very little impact on the dragon when you shoot an arrow, but just keep doing it. I re-stocked all 20 arrows once. My guess is I hit him (on normal setting) with 30 arrows.
Hope that helps.

I agree entirely with this location for this achievement. Make sure to take out all the soldiers before going after the blood dragon. The first time I went for this I widdled it down to minimum health and ran down the stairs to re-stock on ammo, but when I was gone one of the soldiers killed the dragon! So I just reloaded the checkpoint and killed all soldiers before attacking the blood dragon. I took minimal damage since I remained inside the bunker at the top of the stairs and chopped him down to minimal health with the gatling gun, then picked away the last remaining bar of health with the bow. His laser attack is very predictable. He stands erect just before firing, and when he did, I shot an arrow into his chest then strafed to the side behind a wall and was safe from the laser.

If you're like me and like to unlock the achievements as early as possible in the game, then you can be done with this one when clearing the very first garrison.
Your AI will tell you that there are many alternative courses of action. After picking up the bow (if happens that you die and restart, you spawn in the outside of this room with the bow), go outside and run across in front of the garrison towards the other small building to disable its force field. There will be a couple of C4 explosives on the outside, so you have to throw one of them and blow the shiny thing that's also outside. That will disable the force field and the Blood Dragon nearby should automatically go inside of the garrison and start attacking the enemies. If the dragon doesn't go immediately then you can throw a heart (assuming that you have one) pressing towards the garrison to guide it there.
The blood dragon will most likely kill almost everyone (except the sniper, who is unreachable to it, in an upper position). Enter the garrison and go through the left until you can assassinate the sniper upstairs from behind. That fight between the dragon and the enemies must have taken its health at least a bit down. Now it's up to you to do the rest. The weapon that does the most damage against it is the C4, but you only have a couple of them. So, throw it close to the dragon and blow it when it is on top of it. Keep doing damage against the dragon and when its health is really low THEN change to the bow and shoot as many arrows at it as it takes until it blows up.
Sometimes after killing the last enemy of a garrison a cutscene shows that it has been freed/taken by your forces. That also tends to calm down the dragon's anger meter and put it outside the garrison and to turn the forcefield back on. That way the dragon cannot enter, so you could stand on the inside and finish the job from there, safer. Just be careful and move to any side when the dragon threatens to shoot its red laser to dodge it.
ALTERNATIVE WAY: Later in the game it's going to become easier to kill dragons, so you can earn this and the
a lot faster. When the game finally lets you to freely explore and no longer fails you for deviating from the given objective, you'll often find enemies on the roads. They will come in cars with a mounted weapon on top. If you can get them to leave the car or if you can kill them without destroying the car, and then hijack it, these mounted weapons as well as the turrets that you find in some of the garrisons make a lot of damage to the dragons. Don't forget to switch to the bow for the last blow.
If you can't find any dragon nearby, remember that they'll show up each time you take a garrison's force field down.

Some of the other guides for this achievement have some pretty good tips, but if you're like me, you were still having trouble with this one. I would try to kill the dragon inside the garrison, only to have the scientists show up and kill it right before I was about to finish it off.
I managed to get this one during the 4th campaign mission, "What is this s#*%?" During this mission, you'll be stuck waiting for an elevator and a blood dragon will come rushing down the hallway at you. Before it get to you, run over to the nearby vending machine and equip the minigun, the Fazertron, the bow (duh) and some C400 if you feel so inclined. Make sure to stock up on ammo too.
Then just let the dragon chase you in circles around the crates in the middle of the room while you get its health down real low. I used the minigun to do most of the damage, although I used 500+ rounds in doing so, you might want to use some C400 to do some of the initial damage. Then to be safe, I used short bursts of the Fazertron to get the health down to a sliver. Be careful here, it's really easy to kill it prematurely. Then just keep plugging away with arrows, preferably in the glowing underbelly.
After getting the health down to a nearly invisible bar, it still took about 10 arrows to put 'er down. So if you've left much more than that, you may have to resupply arrows. Hope this helps those who were having some trouble with the other methods.

When clearing out the garrison around X465.6, Y334.6. 1 of the Predator missions is to kill the unique horned dragon. I did this mission around the halfway point of the game.
I had collected about half of everything, liberated half of the garrisons, etc, so I had some attachments to my weapons, more health, and unlocked the Terror 4000.
**This part is key**
Load up on ammo, health packs, and armor. Equip the Terror 4000, Bow, Galleria 1991.
When fighting the dragon I basically used an opening in the structure at X451.7 , Y358.8 (on the left side in the distance will be 2 garrison beams, on the right a mountain across the water) Peaking through one side firing, and when the dragon stands up to blast his laser, run to the other side of the opening. Using the Terror 4000, Galleria or explosives, get the dragons health extremely low. The bow only removes tiny slivers of health. If you run out of arrows, simply use the peaking back and forth method, run up to the dragon and it will take some of the arrows back, then run back to cover quickly.
Rinse and Repeat.
Good luck.

This is a lot simpler than it sounds, the trophy only requires that you make the killing blow come from the bow. So you can take down the health of the dragon until it has just a tiny bit left, then switch to the bow and kill it.
