How to unlock the Poacher achievement in Far Cry 3 - Definitive Guide

Easy way for the Poacher Achievement:

- Liberate the Rusty Yard in Badtown (X:579.4/Y:752.0).

- Accept the Path of Hunter Quest from the Noticeboard.

- Quest: Hunt a Rare White Belly Tapir with a Bow.

- Equipment: Hunter's Instinct (Amber Leaf) & Custom Bow.

- Quest Location: South of the Rusty Yard (X:565.5/Y:731.5).

- Tapir Location: (X:559.0/Y732.1)

- Use your Hunter's Instinct.

PS: You don't need the Custom Bow, you can use the Bow at the Quest Location.

Got this one after getting to the location, getting the bow, having a practice shoot at an ordinary tapir. Then spotted the white one! Chased it. Missed it. Then it ran into the river and drowned. ...............Skinned it anyway and up popped this achievement and Bagged and Tagged.

I found an easy one after clearing out Mosquito Yard and then going after the Golden Tiger. It's early on and the Video will show it all.

You will get to hunt rare animals in Path of the Hunter quests after you have liberated enough outposts. Pretty easy, quest will provide you with the weapon and location. Point and shoot - bang.

There are many rare animals around Rook island

One horn buffalo
White belly tapir
Blood comodo
etc.

Here's my take on the killing the rare blood komodo dragon. Be sure to use Hunter's Instinct before you get to the little island, as there are multiple komodos on it which will kill you quickly.

Eventually you will come across RARE animal hunting quests on the bulletin board at certain outposts. If you see a hunt for a golden tiger, white belly tapir, one-horned buffalo or the blood komodo, you are in luck! (There are a few other rare hunts, one involving a shark as well as a bear).

Simply accept the job, equip yourself with the required weapon and go bag yourself a "trophy" animal! The trophy will unlock upon completing the job.

The rare animals are linked to the Path of the Hunter quests. When looking at the poster on the board, some will have a rare stamp across them in red. These quests are no different than the normal versions, other than the animal is slightly different colour wise.

Again, make sure you kill and skin the animal as later one its hide will be used to craft the last object of certain equipment.

Rare animals can be found during "Path of the Hunter" quests. To play these quests you need to liberate Outposts. The spawn area of the animals will be shown during the quests. You can see a red "Rare" stamp on the hunter posters if the quest features rare animals.

One of these quests can be started at the coordinates X: 428.9, Y: 694.3 (see to right corner of the world map).
