How to unlock the Poker Bully achievement in Far Cry 3 - Definitive Guide

This achievement is extremely easy, you just need to progress until you reach the second island. Once there in Thurston Town, there is a sidequest called Father's Burden. Accept the quest and follow the markers, you'll speak to an old gambler who wants you to win his money back from the mercenaries at the bar.

You pretty much can't lose because of the quest so once the game starts go All In. You should win the hand, once you win exit the game and then sit back down and play another round. You should have the achievement in two games total time of about 3 minutes.

EDIT: FishHeadN pointed out you can just play that poker game to it's conclusion and you will win $1500. So there you go, you don't even have to exit the game and play again unless you want to farm money (which you can do, rather easily.) Otherwise, just always go All In and you'll win about 75% of the hands and the game ends when you have won $1500.

EDIT: Badtriangle has pointed out that you have to take out a nearby outpost called Harmanse Gas and Repair which is east and south of Thurston Town along the coast road. Precisely at X: 606.3 Y: 489.2

You can lose a hand but no need to exit game and sit back down, just continue to beat all 3 players for all their money in one sitting to win $1500.

Not working for me. Game starts, I go all in, I bust out and have to leave the table because I'm broke. Thoughts?

This worked great for me but you may want to add you need to take down the harmanse gas outpost (its around 605, 488 if you don't have any of the map revealed) for the quest giver to show.

I was unable to do this at first. I went into the system settings and deleted the Title Update, went into the quest, and completed it in two hands. Maybe there was something in there that prevented this from working. Can anyone else confirm?

Just got the achievement with the Title Update. I want 'All In' straight away on the first hand and everyone else went 'All In' as well. I ended up winning the hand (and $2000) and bam achievement popped and game finished in one hand.

Cheers smile

The side quest only became available to me after I finally got around to liberating the nearby base, Harmanse Gas & Repair.

Just wanted to add that your losses don't subtract from the $1500 goal. Example: If you enter a table with $7000 and end up leaving with only $4000 but if you won enough games to get to $1500 then it still pops even though you technically lost $3000 overall.
Another way to say it, it doesn't matter how much you bet and lose, as long as your wins made at least $1500, NOT your cumulative winnings.

Not clear from the solution, but if you lose multiple times to the point where you've lost all your money, you can hit start, then Restart Quest, and you'll have all your money back.

Also not noted in the solution, should I be picking novice, skilled, expert on the table?

They may have done a patch recently that forces you to actually play the game of poker during the quest. I'll bum-rush the story and try to reach the point of this quest and see what's going on. Perhaps try playing one hand normally and then going all in? Unless they changed the quest you still just need to win this one game of poker to unlock the achievement.

it may just be one of those things where it works for 90% of the gamers and the other 10% have to play them legit. What I ended up having to do was to just try and bluff my way calling and checking and if the bets exceeded 100$ and I didn't have a hand, I just folded until the next round. That worked out great for me because more times than not, the hand that won had a high card that was higher than mine. If I had a hand I would call and check and on the final flop for the river, I'd go all in and usually they'd either fold or I would win.

@Pedle Zelnip: It might've just been my bias, but I feel the Notice level was easier than the Expert, in the sense that the other players aren't as hard to beat, they folded easier, and didn't keep raising the bid so high. Novice also tells you what your hand is, which is good because I don't know how to play Poker.

I hated earning this achievement. I spent a good 2 hours blindly guessing. At first, my plan was to go "All In" on the first round, if I lost then reset and reload. But with my system load times were taking a while.

So I played, tapping out if my cards looked bad, going all in if my cards were good. Say the round asks you to put down $100, you keep getting bad cards and tapping out, and you get whittled down to $15. But then you get 3 pairs or whatever, go all in, and end up winning $150. Then I'd quit, save the game, and the amount of money won goes up by $50. Rinse and repeat. The first few times I got lucky so it was $500 & $400, but by the end it was increments of $20 or $15.

... Maybe I did it bass-ackwards. As I said, I genuinely did not enjoy this achievement.

EDIT: I didn't have enough money to beat against Hoyt in the story. I wonder if I'd had $1500 there if I could've skipped the whole ordeal.

This one is easier than many say, i read everywhere that you must win $1500 in one Pokergame, but that is impossible, the max. you can win is $750 in one Pokergame.

So it naturally means won $1500 cumulative with Poker.

I used the All In Method to boost it.

1. Start Pokergame and Select Expertmode
2. Go All In (no need to look at the Cards *lol*)
3a. If you won, exit the Pokergame, Save the Game and repeat from 1.
3b. If you lost, go immediately to Menu without exiting Pokergame, reload the Save and Repeat from 1.

*) Its very important that you exit the Pokergame if you win, because only then it will register the win (amount won - amount spend = win).

This took me only 10 Minutes including walking to the Pokergame,

Naturally it depends of Luck, but the Chances are 25%-50% that you win.

If you are very Lucky you can theoretically finish it with two Games (2 x 750), i was not so lucky and needed 4-5 Wins, but its still the fastest possibility to get this done and you won't loose any Money this way.

It does not matter which Pokergame you pick, but i suggest one that is near a Fast Travel logically.

I needed to get win only 2 games (clear 2 entire tables) and won a total of $ 2000. I lost a few games in between them. But i never quit out. So i don't think that lost games removes money from your total win balance.

Great method btw!

Great method and works quite well. Only difference was that I didn't quit to the menu when I lost, I just kept playing immediately and went all in again, as soon as I won, I left the game, then rejoined again.

Never quit to main menu and I got the achievement in about 5 mins.

Thanks for the great guide!

Yes it does, so if you don't wanna loose any Money, go to Menu and reload the Save as soon you loose. If you don't care about you can simply play as long you have still Money and only reload if you loose all, may save a bit Time at Cost of Money, but i preferred not to loose any and stock the Money up this way... lol

By bhall237 on 02 Jan 2013 23:29
There is a side quest that will give you this achievement... it is on the second island anyway you have to win back some dudes money which was only $300 but you have to stay until all 3 guys bust and the buy in is $500.. so you win $1500 i don't know what the side quest is called though

Definitely the best solution. I backed out and saved after every win. No glaring issues although money won in game is different from money won in terms of the solution.

If you reload, it always spawns you at the last Outpost, so to save Time go to an Outpost where a Pokergame is, there are two of them if i remember right

Old Willy Pete's solution is dead on. Although , you can all in in the first round and win automatically, then all in the second round without getting up from the table or saving/quitting because one guy stays behind to play you again. You can all in with him and auto-win as well for the cheevo to pop. I just did this as it was 50 out of 50 for me.

From Old Willey Pete on the Xbox Achievements page and confirmed by me:

This achievement is extremely easy, you just need to progress until you reach the second island. Once there in Thurston Town, there is a sidequest called Father's Burden. After liberating certain Outposts, Poker will become available to play in certain little villages or towns. The Poker locations are shown to you via a Black Spade (card shape) icon. For this achievement you do not have to win $1500 all in one game or session. It's accumulative over the course of the game, so feel free to play when you can.

To win decent money, you're going to want to play the $250 buy-in games. Now to actually win profit money, you'll need to get over that $250 buy-in. So if you leave a game with $251 in your games bank, then you've made $1 and have $1499 to get.

The game of Poker isn't too hard to play and there are helpful note pages you can refer to if you need help. Sometimes you'll lose a few times in a row, while others you'll get a good hand and can be up to $750! It's based on luck and how you pay. If you also watch the video below, there's a nice little trick to try out for easy winnings.

To see your current earnings, head to you Handbook and press to go to the Statistics. Now scroll down to World and it'll be under there.

0
0

Poker games are shown on the map with a symbol. There are 4 difficulties. The higher the difficulty, the higher the earnings:

Practice = $0 wager, $0 maximum earnings
Novice = $100 wager, $300 maximum earnings
Skilled = $150 wager, $450 maximum earnings
Expert = $250 wager, $750 maximum earnings

Before playing a game of Poker you should save your game. Then play on Expert difficulty, go All-In and if you win you save your game again. If you lose you reload your last save game and repeat. The easiest way to get this is by doing the Father's Burden quest in Thurston Town. Just go all in on each hand.

In the statistics you can keep track of how much money you have earned from poker in total. To access the statistics open the pause menu > handbook > press > world > total poker winnings.
