How to unlock the Hat-Trick achievement in Far Cry 4 - Definitive Guide

This achievement is story related and will be awarded after completion of the mission "Payback". This mission is a little confusing with things you have to do so I will try to explain it my best. This is one of the typical far cry franchise's hallucinogenic missions.

You first have to travel to the abandoned Keo mine up in the mountains of North Kyrat. Now enter the cave. On your left there will be a hole in the wall. Walk through this and there is a letter laying on one of the boxes inside that room. After the cut scene ends, follow the blood trail to the very end of the river. Look up. There will be a grapple. Climb up the wall, kill the soldiers in the area below, and destroy the gate. To destroy the gate shoot the flaming pots on the other side of the gate with your bow and it'll blow up. Now do some more grappling across the ledges. you will know you're in the right area when you do an immediate grapple after grapple 5 or 6 times in a row. In the next area, you will have to kill Kalinga 3 times as well as some more soldiers and a white tiger. After you kill him the third time a cut scene will start and you'll be back in the original cave and the achievement will pop.

if anyone has any questions let me know.

This was also bugged for me. I got the achievement for Pagan but this is still not working. I'll update if I find a solution. Some people have claimed it unlocked up to 48 hours after completing the quest, so hopefully that's the case here.

*edit* Still not unlocking, I'm not going to worry about this for now until I can get the MP achievements

This failed to unlock for me also, and I’ve already beat the main campaign. Anyone have any luck getting this to unlock after the fact?

This achievement and "The King Is Dead" failed to pop for me. I've started a fresh playthrough and hope that the achievement will pop when I get to same point, I will update this once I have reached this point.

Just to add to Fr3ak's post, Killing Kalinga can be a challenge, so below some advice to keep you alive, the battle with Kalinga is split into three distinct phases,

First Stage appears to be just Kalinga, Second Stage is Kalinga, a white Tiger and a bow wielding soldier and the Third Stage is Kalinga, a white Tiger and multiple soldiers.

1. Keep moving - Kalinga is using a bow , they are not the best shot in the world but stand still and he's gonna hit you, as you progress to the second and third stage of this battle the odds start stacking against you as there are more assailants to the keep moving advice become more important

2. Don't attempt to approach Kalinga unless you have them kneeling - A successful attack with your bow will put Kalinga on their knees, this is the point to approach and use your Takedown ability to finish the phase your on and immediatly start the next, if Kalinga is not on their knees and you approach to try the takedown without first hitting them with the arrows they will fanish into a cloud of purple mist and reappear somewhere else in the arena.

3. Kalinga is the only target to progress - remember that only Kalinga NEEDS to be killed to progress through the stages, the Tiger and soldiers are a pain, but focus should be on Kalinga throughout, if your able to take out the Tiger or Soldiers then feel free if the opportunity arises but not at the detriment at a shot at Kalinga.

4. Stay close to the back wall - when I completed this quest, I stayed along the back wall ( the furthest point from where Kalinga and the other enemies seem to enter) - with this tactic the Tiger never made an attempt on me as he never closed the gap quick enough and the other soldiers ( as long as I was moving ) didn't seem to cause much of an issue. There are some cover points back there but be careful around the pillars as they start firing fire arrows in either stage 2 or 3 which can start to become pain whilst trying to heal and avoid further shots on you ..

Good luck all.

Story related and cannot be missed

This mission takes place very late in the game, in a gold mine. Yuma will drug you and you will enter Shangri-La again. This mission can be a little tricky, but it's not too bad once you get used to the bow. When you wake up, you will discover that you killed Yuma while you were hallucinating. Trophy unlocks shortly afterwards.
