How to unlock the Infamous achievement in Far Cry 5 - Definitive Guide
March 2024
Takes the achievement down from 8-10hrs to only 15 minutes. You join my game, we do the final mission, it pops for you.
Make sure to have completed the base game, and started New Game Plus on Infamous difficulty. Then have Dutch's island liberated. You will not pop the achievement if these requirements aren't fulfilled.
Message me on Xbox when you have done this requirement and we can arrange a time to slot you in.
Unfortunately I am only able to help those on Series X or S, or those who have access to Cloud gaming via Game Pass Ultimate if they don't have one of these consoles. This is due to a bug that crashes the game when trying to play the final mission in co-op with anyone on the older consoles.
**Just a quick note, I own all of the DLC which I’ll reference in my first and perhaps most important tip. So let’s get started:
-The weapons you unlock from simply owning the “Lost on Mars” DLC should absolutely be your bread and butter for this mode. More specifically, the “Tazer Spazer Annihilazer”. It has unlimited ammo (it recharges) and instant kills almost everything in the game, including helicopters, planes, and heavy infantry. I also carried the “Nerve Reaper” in case the Tazer overheated, but that almost never happened. I also carried a regular sniper for those really pesky far-away snipers. However, on top of insane damage, the Tazer has insane range. It’ll be your go-to for almost every situation.
-I only ever went for missions that would bring me to boss showdowns the fastest. I’d prioritize main missions, then outposts, then side missions. Doing that, along with blowing up silos, and rescuing prisoners on the road, I cleared each zone in about 3 hours and change, Jacob’s in 2 and a half.
-For companions, Boomer the dog is a staple. His passive that spots everyone is really helpful, so you don’t get snuck up on by a shotgun guy or something. For the second one (which I’d argue is optional) I chose Peaches. The reason I stuck with animals is I felt they can take more damage and had a higher frequency of kills. Human companions will sometimes pull through, but more often than not they stick to cover doing nothing and end up getting downed. The less babysitting you’re doing, the more killing you’re doing. In the event one of them died, I’d pick Nick the pilot.
-Again, saving time is helpful. ABUSE the ability to Air Drop and then use your Wingsuit to get over to where you need to go. That way, you save time and never have to worry about random enemies/animals to kill you.
-One last thing: you can’t “Walk Away” from the final confrontation. You have to choose “Resist”. I didn’t unlock the achievement, but just hit Continue and did the fight and it popped after the credits.
Good luck guys! It’s really not that difficult, but feel free to add any tips of your own if you felt I missed anything.
The first time round I choose to walk away and my heart sank when it didn’t work after the credits, but thankfully it let me confront him again and I was kinda thinking it was because of the certain ending I choose. Good luck!
cheeseburger is a tank, peaches is fast damage, stacking as many perk points into peaches is key to her surviving conflicts, if you can't put atleast 10 points in her then use cheeseburger, peaches is very fast but dies quick.
for the scripted dream-like sequences and bunker sections, try to make sure you have full armor, even if it means fast travelling before you pop your last kill and trigger the boss fight. the first few stages with all but the ginger git in the north are easy. but much will involve trial and error until you learn.
always use annihilazer from mars dlc, along with nerve ripper and obliterator, the lazer will kill any enemy in a second, flamethrowers, heavies, everything it makes quick work of faith during her boss fight, the nerve ripper electrifies enemies and stuns them slightly, but heavies will still trash you, as it won't stun those. The obliterator is a pocket rocket, op and fun but buggy, when hipfiring it's sights are off and it will hit cover in front of you, try to ads when firing, the nut hugger is an interesting weapon, it locks on to vehicles and can be useful, but in certain situations lasers can be buggy and a silenced M249 is boss.
when it comes to clearing outposts, shrines, silos' and other stuff.. the hours of darkness dlc gives you a pretty nifty attack chopper right from the start of the game, prioritise unlocking the different areas throughout the game that spawns choppers.. hurk's mother has one at her home base, one at prison and whitetail base, remember to pace your rockets out, having the dog boomer with you will highlight enemies in the world, alternatively so will the hunter drug booster.
a brief guide of some of the harder scripted sequences of the game.
north area
timed assault course runs are always the same but sometimes additional enemies appear as you advance. always work left to right and stay behind cover, you need to be really quick, and you can't afford to make any mistakes during traversing the rooms, remember always work left to right, except for the 2nd room and 4th room (both are corridors) which is right to left. enemies give more time so killing all is preferred, in later runs enemies will pop up half way through a sequence or in different places altogether so be mindful, but this only happens in the last sequences really.
and in the 3rd room, the courtyard, start by killing the 2 on the left and take cover, shoot the 2 that come through the double doors right at the back and then kill the guy in the direct right side of you, after that you'll have maybe 2 more, 1 up on the balcony and the other floating around below on the right normally behind cover, on the final run you get 2 on the balcony above.
after all that, use the obliterator to destroy the wolf towers, you can shoot them from atleast 60m away, hug right side take out 3 towers, sticking to the right side using rocks for cover. then reverse back and take out the rest, i found that to be easiest way, it will take 2-3 shots each, there are medkits but if you stand still long enough to get one, you get shot and kinda just die, so best to keep moving, use binocs and boosters to tag enemies it's key to surviving this.
Remember to bring medkits to the final boss fight in the northern area
then when finally killing him on the mountain make sure you use your drug boosters, primarily speed and armor, obliterator and lazer works wonders here, use nerve ripper to land a few shots on the boss from a distance to stop him from shooting at you as you move from cover to cover, use the lazer on the heavies right before the climb to the boss, and the obliterator for the clumps of dudes before the heavies. drug boosters work wonders here, speed and armor especially. you will find a total of 5 judge wolves on the mountain, and they accompany each pack of enemies, generally they sneak up and bite you on the ass after you have initiated the fight with a pack.
east area
faith herself is easy, keep moving to dodge her attacks, and use lazer to trivialize her, she will spawn medpacks in the centre, she can stack damage fast if u stay still, so just maintain a constant circular sprint, even when bandaging.
after killing faith you go to her bunker, find the sherrif off his head on bliss and this is where the fun starts, the next room has valves you have to shut off, along with maybe 10 enemies spread out all over and it's a nightmare, every time you hit a valve enemies will come through the door you used to enter the room yourself, you can hide and use the lazer but in all honesty i did this in coop and it was still hard. the enemies come from above, aswel as below and just require knowing where to stand, after you hit one of the valves, again the lazer is king here.
as you enter the room, on the left is a ladder, if you hide behind that ladder you can lazer any enemy above as they come down the ladder, and when they come through the door you used to enter which will be right in front of you, it's better if u have a friend in coop to turn the valves off whilst you camp out the spawning dudes (this area is hard as hell, hardest in game imo)
south area
the boss in the southern area was not very hard at all, but the sequence for escaping his bunker tried my patience, especially at the end when you have to escape the fire, but i found a way to do it easily. enter using the obliterator but make sure you have a normal bullet firing machine gun aswel, rifle or lmg doesn't matter, you'll need it at the end of this sequence.
enter the room turn right and shoot the floor with the obliterator, killing the enemies behind cover then turn left and shoot the guy that appears, retreat and wait several shotgun enemies will arrive on the left obliterate them, when they are dead activate the lever, then after you activate the second lever enemies will rush in from both sides, the staircase behind you and the one over on the opposite side of the room, use obliterator to clear them and take cover down the stairs, they will arrive directly after you hit the lever so be cautious, once the 4 enemies that spawn are dead the roof will open, and you will get 3 enemies, when you kill any 2 more will spawn for a maximum of 5, keep your distance and stay out of their line of sight, use a hunter booster to locate them through walls and use the RIFLE/LMG, the lazers are buggy and won't clear them for some reason, after the 5 enemies are dead a chopper will arrive for you to grapple on to, don't let the fire spook you, it does low damage stay out of it and just make sure your out of the enemies' line of sight.
and at the end when seed gives you the choice, resist or walk away, make sure you resist, and use the lazer to wipe out the enemies.
For an excellent guide, look at that of my friend Fooga.
I can confirm that if you play the game in Co-op (or only last mission), BOTH players will unlock the Achievement.
EDIT 13/04/2020: After several check, also the guest must start the new game + to obtain this Achievement in co-op.
I played entire game in solo, until the last mission. After I invited my friend im IB A IR T 0, we have completed only the Final mission in co-op and the Achievement was obtained by both after the credits.
I apologize if I have not replied to someone about passing the checkpoint, but I no longer have the save of the final checkpoint.
Fortunately, for those who have not yet done, WulfTek has made a thread where people can share the checkpoint:
"Infamous" Checkpoint Sharing Thread.
Once you completed the game, you will not to be able re-play the final mission, but if you want to keep the Save for unlock the achievement with other friends, there is the Cloud Method.
Below in detail, if you don't know how its work:
I expected to have problems with Faith, but managed to complete her first attempt. Focus on her then the spawned cultist. Heal when ammo/meds are up.
As far as John, I had a hard time in the initial playthrough flying with planes, but on this mode it seemed easier to take him down.
Jacob- take out his goons while getting semi close but staying in cover. When your close enough pop shot him with your sniper and its done.
The father- watch out for hurk on the third set i believe as his rocket launcher will get you if your moving too close. I did this part coop, on the drive my partner had died once (not sure how) so had to redo the drive. Also had it come up saying I was too far from my partner so keep that in mind. My partner was on an atv so not sure if thats normal..
First thing I did was save boomer and Grace you’ll want to keep them with you at all times
After that I recommend sticking to story missions and then side missions when you run out to quickly build up resistance points. What I do is quietly take out any snipers or heavy machine gunners from a distance and then go loud, quickly dispatching any remaining enemies never standing still at each mission objective. Stock up on ammo explosives and heath pack after each mission and of course abuse fast travel and air drop.
My recommended load out is . . .
The SA-50 with one of each attachments equipped
The mg42 with an extended mag
The SPAS12 with one of each attachments equipped
And the Obliterater from the mars dlc (it will be your best friend but if you don’t have the dlc a grenade launcher is almost as good)
Obviously you’ll want to buy these weapons before starting a new game plus but if you haven’t prepper stashes are a good way to get the cash for them
On levels where you lose your load out I found it effective to stay crouched and use melee and side arms
Personally I found it easier alone rather then coop, the difficulty spike was to big to be worth it
Start your second play through on NG+ Infamous difficulty. The best weapons to use are from the Mars DLC and Boomer should be your companion as he can spot enemies for you very quickly. Make sure to replenish your med kits and homeopathic as they will all come in handy.
If you want to save yourself the second play through there is a major exploit available where you’re able to join someone else’s end game and both of you will achieve the trophy together. The only thing you will be required to do is liberate Dutch’s Island on NG+ Infamous before joining your partner’s game or else the exploit will not work!
As of today I have a working save that will do this so do not hesitate to contact me if you’d like to save yourself 8-10 hours. My save skips the fighting scene completely and consists of a two minute drive. It’s basically the last five minutes of the game and very easy to complete. Hit me up if interested!
Like any other New Game+ modality, you will start the game with all your traits and equipment, even all the things you bought at the shops. If you played the other DLCs, you will also have access to the specific DLC weapons. Infamous difficulty is not really hard, as you will have plenty of money and weapons to use. Enemies will hit hard and they will die hardly but the challenge is pretty doable. The missions and the spawns are the same so there's nothing special to say about it. Some parts or some missions can be very tedious, however, as you will be very outnumbered and without good gears.
Some advice that can help you to get the trophy quickly and without many problems:
- Play "Lost In Mars" DLC first! I didn't know this when I started my Infamous run but the weapons you get from this DLC are very overpowered and can make Infamous a breeze.
- Abuse of roster: always have 2 friends with you! I used Boomer e Nick Rye until i reach Peaches and Cheeseburger, then used them toghether with Nick Rye. Your animal friends are very useful, as they can kill the enemies in almost one hit and they can revive you anytime you die. Nick Rye is very useful too, because he can fly and distract the air support while killing enemies on the ground so is very hard to kill!
- Missions: The boring part, is to get enough RP to reach the final showdown in each area. The best and fastest way to get enough RP are:
- Doing story missions: do all of them first.
- Conquering locations: once you're out of story mission, go and free locations.
- Destroying the properties of the cult: always destroy them whenever you can
- Secondary missions: when you don't have any other story missions, locations or properties, just do the easier and fastest secondary missions. Don't go on Prepper's Hideouts (because you don't eanr any RP for doing so) and every time you can destroy cars, save prisoners or kill a VIP, do so to rack up points!
- Try to have always full medipack and Bulletproof vest, specially when you have to start a particulary hard mission.
- Abuse of choppers! Choppers can be your best friends: you can fly almost everywhere and you can have a high shooting power! Choppers are the best things to use when liberate locations.
- Use homeopathics: the high defense and high speed ones are the best to use when you are in danger. I used them in John's Bunker, Faith's Bunker and Jacob's Fight. Don't abuse them, however, as farming materials to create them, could add more time to the playthrough. Use them only when you are in very dangerous situations.
- The RAT4 + Lock-On Upgrade is very, very useful! try to have it always in your inventary.
There is a fast and very easy way to get this trophy without playing through all the game again, thanks to a co-op exploits:
- Start the game on infamous and liberate Dutch's Island. Once you do this, join a friend who has a save just before the confrontation. Once you finish the last mission, both of you will get the trophy.
But before you start NG+ I highly recommend getting all, or most of the perks unlocked on your first play-through , as NG+ lets you keep your unlocked perks (as well as purchased weapons and veichels).
By the way you can still upgrade some perks when playing NG+. So check there regularly.
Weapons I used are:
•SA-50 "FREE STATE", modified with a long range scope, suppressor square and an extended magazine.
•.44 Magnum L, modified with a reflex sight.
•M133
•AR-C
•Flames on Flames (or any of the other two).
•Rocket launcher
If you want your own different set of weapons you'll need to look at how much damage each one causes, and choose the ones that are the highest. Also keep in mind modifying is also an option (which I recommend).
Always keep two companions with you.
Going around the regions are easy enough if you have the patience and correct weapons. But when it comes to the bosses, keep these in mind:
When fighting John Seed, invite Nick Rye. He'll take him out within a minute or two.
Faith Seed. You can use your second weapons wheel by holding L1 + R1 to consume speed and aggression. This will help you a ton.
Jacob is a lot more difficult.
The trials you need to try and try over again. Memorize where the enemies are in each room. The video I've linked below will help with that.
His boss fight is easier though. Bring a rocket launcher to take out those speakers from a distance which will also take out the enemies there too (maybe not all). But don't forget you can use the speed and aggression from the second weapon wheel.
As for the bunkers for each enemy listed above, I recommend taking your time as there isn't a time limit. Again, don't forget you can use the aggression and speed stuff if need be.
At the end of the game, you must press X for resist. I didn't get the trophy if I press O (walk away). If you do accidentally press O, you can exit to the main menu after the credits and press continue. This will direct you back at the point before you dealt with Joseph.
After you have completed the Campaign for the first time, you will be able to start a new playthrough in New Game+ from the Main Menu. When selecting New Game+, you're also able to choose the difficulty level. For this achievement you must choose the Infamous difficulty, which increases enemy damage, health, and perception.
It's worth noting here that New Game+ retains your progression from your original save file, carrying over your weapons, gear, vehicles, money, outfits, prestige items, and any unspent perk points.
All in all, playstyle is going to vary for each and every player—some will play stealthily and slowly, while others may want to finish their playthrough as quickly as possible even if it means compromising all stealth. Regardless of playstyle, keep these five tips in mind during your New Game+ playthrough:
- To save time, skip any and all dialogue interactions and cutscenes, and use Air Drops when possible to travel around the map in a more efficient manner via your wingsuit
- Prioritize tasks that will yield the most Resistance Points, such as main missions and outposts; side missions and miscellaneous activities should only be done if absolutely necessary
- Go to John's region first and unlock Boomer as early as possible; his passive ability that tags nearby enemies is extremely useful
- Dump any leftover perk points (and new perk points you earn) into the "Journey Pack" skill in order to increase the amount of medkits you can carry (up to 25+); make pit stops at stores in between main story missions to always ensure you're fully stocked up on health supplies
- If you have completed the Lost on Mars DLC and obtained its weapon-related achievement, you'll be able to use the Tazer Spazer Annihilator in this playthrough (you must equip it from any store); this weapon has a ridiculously long range, unlimited ammo, and will kill enemies and vehicles almost instantly
With these key tips in mind, your New Game+ playthrough should be very manageable. The use of the Tazer Spazer Annihilator will make things incredibly easy, though please note that using this weapon voids any sense of stealth gameplay. It should take around 8-10 hours to complete the game provided you are skipping dialogue and cutscenes, as well as focusing on missions that yield the most Resistance Points.
Lastly, you must choose the "Resist" ending at the end of the game in order to then unlock this achievement after the credits. If you choose "Walk Away," the game will still end, but you will not unlock the achievement, thus requiring you to reload your current save file from the Main Menu and choose the "real" ending.
