How to unlock the Opportunity Knocks achievement in Far Cry 5 - Definitive Guide

This is done by using cn_down to throw a rock. When you find a group on enemies preferable in any outpost you haven't taken yet, sneak up on them while remaining undetected and used cn_down (down on the d-pad) to throw a rock and distract them. Do this to 15 different enemies and the achievement will pop.

SIDE NOTE: sometimes it does not register when you distract an enemy and I found it not to work on enemies that have detected me and then I waited for them to "lose sight" of me.

DOUBLE SIDE NOTE: If you are having problems with it registering, try spamming cn_down over and over until you either hear a "huh" / "what was that" or see the enemy start to look around then check to see if it counted. I would sit in one spot near a group of guards and just spam cn_down for a solid 30 seconds and then check the achievement tracker and it always seemed to work.

this achievement sucks, i still dont know what really counts. I throw a rock, the enemies walk towards it...and nothing counts. Its one of the last achievements i need in the game lol It seemed so easy going in

I've done this same achievement on the previous games, so I know I'm doing it right. Just is buggy. The sabotage achievement also gave me trouble.

I found it best to highlight them so you know where they are and then crouch and hide a safe distance away and just spam Down on the D-Pad over and over. You can hear them say "huh" and their outlines start to look around. Then just pull up the Xbox One guide and check achievement progress. Most times it counted and if it didn't I would just spam the D-Pad some more and check again. I only had 2 or 3 occasions where it didn't count but the next wave of rock throwing worked.

@TCrash55 I was stuck at 93% and nothing was working. Until I tried spamming it like you suggested. It worked! After my second volley of spamming it worked. I don't know why this worked, but thank you!

TheUtmostLegend No problem, glad to help! I was stuck somewhere in the 70's when I got annoyed and just spammed the hell outta it and ended up getting 3 right then.

I found this seemed to track better when I repeatedly hit the enemies with the rocks. It got to the point that I would just throw rocks instead of using weapons any time I seen an enemy.

Good spot. Copperhead rail yard John’s region. Approach building on left with ladders. Shot guy on top. There are 2 guys in building , one by front and another at rear. Mark them with binocs so you can see where they move. Position yourself by holes in roof above them, throw rock to one then move to other. Fast travel to nearby point and return. Repeat process. Works very well and can be done in one spot

Playing from GamePass on the XBox Series X, this is a very simple achievement, no unlocking issues.

It's actually a great tool to use on outposts etc, so no need to spam it, just normal gameplay as there are so many opportunities to use it.

Starting from a new game, I could only start distracting successfully starting at the first outpost on Dutch's Island. The first few encounters wouldn't register anything. It almost seems as if they really need to be posted guards and not scripted encounters.

Just figured it out. You need to throw a rock close enough to an enemy that has NOT seen you at all. Not even the beginning of the white detection bar. You should be able to successfully distract an enemy about twice (doesn't give you two distractions on the tracker, just two times to ensure it registers).

Throw a rock and WAIT until the enemy goes to inspect it and then returns to his original position. This worked evwrytime for me after my progress bar was stuck.

Best of luck.

Press cn_down to throw a Rock or Hold cn_down to Throw a Can while driving or being still in a Vehicle, when you find a Enemy/Enemies get out your Binoculars by Pressing cn_up to Tag them, Sneak up on them from a distance, Throw a Rock, make sure they go back to there spot for each Distraction to count (A lot of Enemies just stand Guard or they walk back & forth from spot to spot) do this 15 times to get the Achievement.

If you are going to downvote please provide a reason for doing so.

I found a repeatable location with enemies to get these three achievements:

Squash and Run
Opportunity Knocks
Explosive Surprise

In John’s region / Holland Valley, towards the top left of his region (middle left of the overall map), there is person that will give a story mission named Merle Briggs. He is located at the fast travel location called Silver Lake Trailer Park
He is being held captive with 4 guards, close to a vehicle, all within a close vicinity of each other.
Because he needs to be freed, you can attempt anything you need and then fast travel back to the location with the enemies reset.
I find this MUCH easier than attacking an outpost

Explosive Surprise:
You can sabotage the truck (you might have to have the enemy come closer to it) without being seen.
If you fail, you can just fast travel back to the same location and try again

Opportunity knocks:
I recommend highlighting the enemies with your binoculars first - it never seemed to work for me when I didn't.
You can only get 1-4 per try, but distract one enemy at the starting point (from fast traveling) and then the enemy on the far left. After those two, you can try to distract the other 2 "middle" enemies.
I does not seem to count the same enemy twice, so after a max of 4 enemies distracted, if you fail, or if nothing registers, you can just fast travel back to the same location and try again.

Squash and run:
Grab a vehicle and drive up to the location, or grab the truck and run over the 4 enemies.
Once they are all dead, or if you fail, you can just fast travel back to the same location and try again

- As long as the enemy has not noticed you (a red indicator will show up on the top of your screen) just throw a rock near them cn_down to get progress.

You can throws rocks or cans to distract enemies whilst in stealth by pressing . Actively use them when liberating outposts or during missions; make sure the enemy gets fully distracted by walking over to where the rock landed for it to count.

This will come early on in the game. By pressing , your character will throw a rock in the direction you’re looking (you can also throw cans if you’ve picked one up). As long as the rock/can is within close proximity of the enemy, they should hear it and move from their current position. If they move then it has counted towards the achievement and you just need to repeat this fourteen more times.

At the time of the game's release, the trophy is buggy, you need to distract 30 enemies and only after that it will drop

I categorically deny the need to return the enemy to its original position. He threw the 15th stone, the enemy went to check - the trophy was in his pocket.

You need to distract 15 enemies, but EXACTLY different ones! Not just one, but 15 different ones.
