How to unlock the I got 99 minutes achievement in FAR: Lone Sails - Definitive Guide
Here's my video for the 99 minutes speedrun for FAR: Lone Sails:
It's not very hard but it's better to keep this achievement for your 2nd run because you need to reach 9001 miles (or km or everything else :P ) for your last achievement.
I finished the game in nearly 93 minutes but i had a small glitch at mid-game.Nothing risky because you can still reload your last save without voiding the achievement !
So the timer is short, but the game is even shorter.Don't stress yourselves it's quite easy.
Some tips:
- Keep this achievement for your 2nd run.In this case you'll know the game very well and don't lose time for the puzzles.
- Collect nearly every ressources possible. You can miss some of them but you have some free time to collect them (and it's better to spend 20 seconds to grab some of them rather than being short of fuel later !)
- Use your sail only when the wind is favorable ! You'll gain some extra boost very useful for this achievement
- You can pause the game,it'll also pause the timer ! So feel free to take some breaks if you want :) (Thanks to Rimafu for the tip !)
Happy hunting !
Got the achievement with around 5 minutes left, although I paused the game for at least half an hour. And still got it! :)
I'll update my guide later today !
For some of the people who may not have beaten the game yet or intend on completing it, I would like to write some general pointers that I figured out throughout my 4 playthroughs of this game!
First, some general advice for the speedrun:
1) The timer begins when you take control of your character and the timer ends when you place a resource in the "furnace" to send a signal for help. The achievement should pop right as you place your resource in the furnace if you got it.
2) Your vehicle... Throughout your playthrough, your vehicle requires energy in order to run, so it is important to stock up on any resources you find. It can be pressing at times, so try to stock up early. Even if you stop for a minute, that is ok. Pick up any resources you find, even the red barrels that set your cabin on fire. They can be helpful!
3) Upgrades/Repairs: your vehicle will get upgraded with a water hose, repair kit, vacuum, and new wheels. Know all of the downsides of each part. For example, right before you enter the first thunderstorm, your vehicle's engine and gliders will be damaged permanently until you get the repair kit. Make sure to have energy for that part (as an example).
4) Damage Indicators: I never really knew this until my fourth playthrough, but, if you look to the front of the vehicle, there are orange-colored bars. These are "health bars" for each of the parts and, if they reach the bottom, they will need repairs. Keep this in mind when playing the game!
Now that we know the general idea of the game, here is some practical advice:
1) Time! There is plenty of time in this run to make the 99 minute or less speedrun. The timer is not tight. I was able to beat it in around 90 minutes, and this includes some mistakes that I made in the run itself. For that reason, do not give up immediately if you run out of energy (like I did at one point) or if you take a ton of damage and have to repair.
2) Uphills are the worst! In order to conquer these parts easily, you should wait until your steam bar is over 75% full. When you release the steam, your vehicle will get a small speedboost. This can be really helpful too in areas where your glider is favorable.
3) Death Zones! There are a few points where death is possible such as the windmill area (where the tornado spawns) or the 2nd thunderstorm (where the rain damages your vehicle). Always make sure to move as fast as you can through these sections.
4) Stopping the vehicle itself... Sometimes, you will come across a wall that cannot be passed by your vehicle and you will have to exit. Instead of ramming into the wall (like I usually did lol), stop your vehicle way ahead of the wall and slowly bump into it. This could prevent fires and repairs, which could cost a few seconds in a run.
*One more thing before i finish my guide for the speedrun: ALWAYS KEEP THE VACUUM ON WHEN YOU EARN IT. It does not consume any energy. This is awesome because you will not have to stop after every resource, you could just speed right by it and the vacuum will get it. Note that you can only hold 4 items in the vacuum so make sure to have some space to pick more items up.
Hopefully you guys could obtain the speedrun with my, and Clad master's, advice. Let me know if you guys have any questions. Sorry for the long guide, so if there is anything I missed, let me know and I will add it!

This will be the most difficult trophy to go after, but as long as you play smart, you’ll be able to finish with a few minutes to spare. Since you need to do a minimum of 3 full playthroughs for It’s over 9000!, it’s recommended you wait until your third run so you have a firm understanding of the game and how to do all of the Module puzzles. Do the other miscellaneous trophies before this one so you can focus solely on getting through the game as quickly as possible.
Fuel: Burn everything except for the explosive barrels. These will cause fires and will cost you valuable time, so it’s best to ignore them and use literally everything else as fuel (chairs, lights, fuel boxes, marbles, etc). You don’t want to pick up every piece of Fuel, especially if you have to go out of your way for it. When you get your Item Gatherer Module installed, make sure it’s turned on as often as possible so you don’t have to stop and pick up any items. Only burn one item at a time for Fuel and only when you get low. You want to make it last as long as possible!
Sails: Your sails will play a big part in getting through this quickly. When the wind is behind you, your sails will pick it up and give you a speed boost. You’ll know when the wind is as the little red flag on the top of your ship will be blowing to the right/towards the front of your Okomotive.
Any time the flag is blowing in that direction, your sails should be up. As soon as the flag stops, immediately lower the sails with (when next to the button) so as to not have any resistance against your forward movement.
Outside of those two tips, the rest is just about knowing how to do the Modules quickly and getting through the obstacles. A video below has been provided showing this trophy being earned with about 10 minutes to spare. The timer will stop once you light the beacon. The final cutscene has no effect on this trophy.
- If the way is open, then start the engine first, and then do everything else. Don't let it stall, it takes a lot of time to get going.
- In the first chapters, try not to crash into solid obstacles (for example, a large propeller) so that the engine does not break (spark) until you receive the repair module.
- In case of hail, it is quite possible not to stop under the awnings if you quickly extinguish the fires and do not stop the engine.
- If you feel that the speedrun will not work on the second playthrough, do not start over, go to the end and remember the correct actions. You will still have to enter 9001 on the counter, and this is four passes.
Main:
1) The vacuum cleaner (as soon as you get it) must always be turned on. This solves the resource issue. The main thing to remember is that it only sucks in 4 items, which means it needs to be unloaded quickly.
2) If you are sailing with a tailwind, still turn on the engine, this gives good acceleration, and given the fact that there are enough resources, why not give yourself a reserve of time
3) If you made a mistake somewhere, don’t start everything again, there’s actually more than enough time. Therefore, if during the second rain you need to stop at the awning to get repairs, do it.
4) The trophy fell out even when dying. Died heroically while extinguishing a fire in a walking vehicle, hastily running into the fire along with a hose. He didn’t wait for notification of his death and booted from the previous checkpoint. Even taking into account this hitch, he completed the run in 92 minutes.
