I let Buddy freeze to death.
When I started out, I dug a tunnel down into the ground, which ended up working out as a shelter from the cold for me. I'm guessing because it was a straight-down drop, Buddy didn't try to follow me down. He slept during the cold spell (might've actually been a snowstorm; I couldn't tell). He eventually became injured. He then collapsed and was dying. He was left dying for a bit of time before he finally died. #RIPBuddy

I recommend doing this as one of the last achievements as buddy is actually very helpful when nobody else is helping with crafting or building buddy always seems to help out

Worked great. Started new game and dug a single block pit down and stood there. Buddy died on the surface within about an hour or two. Also popped the two hour achievement while idling
